Would it be a bad idea if my support person was my 13 yr old son?
lindsaygotsleeved replied to atlchick's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I would go alone before I put that kind of responsibility on my 13 year old. I'm sure that the surgeon's office has a reasonable after-care program and someone can be arranged to visit you in the hotel. I really think it's too much for any teenager to handle. -
I ended up making this with a salmon pouch and mozzarella cheese (since that's all I had) and they were SOOOO good!

Stupid Question - BMI TICKER
lindsaygotsleeved replied to cpeycke's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Click on your picture at the top right to go into your profile. Then on the left side there is an option for Tickers. There's a bunch of different kinds -
Ashley, I heard good things about the Mirena but was worried about the hormones since I didn't like the bizarre occasional spotting and severe mood swings while I was on Implanon. Do you know if the hormone secretion is likely to affect those things. I use a Diva Cup for my periods and so although they are heavy, I don't even notice/think about it but twice a day and I have zero cramping now. P.S. I had midwife deliveries with all three of my kiddos and I have a special place in my heart for midwives. Thanks for doing what you do

What kind of shakes without art. sweeteners?
lindsaygotsleeved replied to Healthygal's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started using Publix Greenwise Organic Vanilla Whey Protein Powder and I found it VERY tasty. Not only that, I don't believe they have any artificial sweeteners at all! I've also tried Jay Robb Chocolate and it's very tasty, has no artificial additives and is sweetened with Stevia. It's pricey, but it's worth it for the taste and clean nutrition. -
Lets talk about sex!
lindsaygotsleeved replied to AshleyMidwife's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Ashley, I can't attest to this yet, but reading in the Ladies Gone Wild forum has been SO encouraging! The ladies describe these monumentally better sex lives and I can't wait. I'd recommend checking it out if you haven't already! -
This seems like it would be really good, almost like a tuna cake! I will have to keep this one for later

I had a Paragard IUD put in last year (the copper non-hormonal) and I have ZERO regrets. I was also pleased to find out that it is the only BC compatible with surgery, so I don't have to have it removed for surgery. We have 3 kids, so we aren't planning anymore so I love that it's super effective for 10 years! The other thing I like about it is that there are no hormones so nothing to interfere with weight loss, moods, etc. I had depo for about a year before my son was born and I gained a good 20 lbs in that year. I wouldn't recommend it.

This PH test Sucks!
lindsaygotsleeved replied to mswisdom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This sounds horrible! Why are they doing this test? I had a manometry study done to test the pressure in my esophagus and that was bad enough. I can't imagine having to have that tube down my nose and throat for more than the 15 minutes it was down there. Have you had a bad history of GERD? My son had this done following an endoscopy when he was nearly 4 in order to determine the cause of his severe GERD. -
My doctor doesn't want me to have the sleeve :(
lindsaygotsleeved replied to AutumnPunkin's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
You seem to be at peace with the bypass now, but like another poster mentioned, the severe reflux could be caused by a hiatal hernia. My manometry results came back borderline and the follow up Upper GI revealed I have a small-medium hiatal hernia. If yours is larger it could cause severe issues. My Dr said it's a simple repair he will do while he's in there for the sleeve and it should resolve nearly all of my acid reflux issues. He mentioned that they do tons of repairs of hernias during sleeve surgery and most people just don't realize they have them. Just another idea to consult with your Dr about if you still want to do the sleeve. -
You look incredible! I think one thing that is most fascinating to me when I look at before and after pics is how much YOUNGER people tend to look when the weight is gone! You are no exception! Congrats on the phenomenal loss and I wish you all the best in losing those last few pounds!

Surgery date! but it is 2 months away.
lindsaygotsleeved replied to taurabird's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
So, I'm SO late on this topic Taura and Elaine, but I just wanted to give a shout out to others who have been sleeved with Dr. Jawad and are local here. My surgery is scheduled for October 16th and I'm excited that it's getting closer. Started cutting out carbs and upping protein this week. I found that Dr. Jawad has an incredible reputation and he truly does care about his patients. I live in Lake county but work in Metrowest. Would love to meet up sometime. I've been lazy and haven't gone to any groups, but maybe I need to. Hopefully you girls are still active and will see this -
How long did your insurance take to approve ?!
lindsaygotsleeved replied to need2bthin!'s topic in Insurance & Financing
I have Anthem BCBS and the insurance approval took just over 48 hours. I completed all the testing requirements on Friday, August 23 at 4:30 pm.The surgeon's office submitted my claim on Monday, August 25 at 9 am and Wednesday, August 27 at 5pm I received my confirmation that I was APPROVED. I was really impressed with my insurance company. They have even assigned me a case management nurse that is familiar with bariatric surgery to coach me through recovery. -
October GS Pals?..
lindsaygotsleeved replied to rensterness85's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
bnape, I'm actually starting my preop diet 2 weeks early, because I also have a fatty liver and want to shrink it as much as possible before surgery. So I'm doing two Protein shakes, and some other high protein/low fat Snacks (jerky, LF mozz cheese, LF greek yogurt) and a meal of lean protein and veggies. Hoping to lose a good bit of weight before surgery, too. Hopefully 15 lbs isn't too idealistic -
October GS Pals?..
lindsaygotsleeved replied to rensterness85's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm super excited to be joining everybody here. I started this journey on July 19th and my surgery to get sleeved will be on October 16th. So just under 3 months and that's with meeting all the requirements for my insurance which is Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield. Tomorrow morning I am starting on low carb low fat and then on October 1st I have to start with replacing two of my meals with the liquid Protein. I'm excited to travel this journey with everybody here and hopefully be a support group to one another. My surgeon is Dr Jawad in Orlando. I should add that my current weight is between 285-290 and I'm hoping to get that to 270-275 by surgery date.
