Where are all the Michigan people at??
CMUGiRL replied to Cinnaberry's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Dog Lover, I went to Detroit Bariatrics throught Dr. Nunn at Harper Hospital. He was great! His bariatric coordinator, Rochelle, is extremely knowledgeable and prompt and returning e-mails or phone calls. Anyway, I had bypass, although Dr. Nunn highly recommended the lapband for me. He was willing to do what I wanted and felt comfortable with doing. Anyway, I have BC Community Blue too. I paid $40 out of pocket for co-pays and that is all. I went in June 2nd for the informational meeting and had my appointment with Dr. Nunn on June 24th when I got everything done on the list. I had surgery July 16th! I am a teacher and I needed to get it done while school was out of session. I already lost almost 60 pounds and I did not even have a 100 to lose in total. However, I do go to all of the support group meetings scheduled usually the first Thursday of the month. Informational meetings are two times per month though. At the meetings, I realized that I was a rare case for complications. I had a stricture and dehydration issues from day one. However, Dr. Nunn has been very thorough in my care and everything is great now! If you have any questions, I will be happy to answer. In the meantime, Detroit Bariatrics is online if you google it. I actually had my surgery with another patient who drove down from Lansing. CMUGiRL -
Laurend, Where do you get all of these samples? You are always talking about having samples. I had surgery 3 months ago (bypass) though; and I just keep buying stuff and I cannot find anything that I actually like. I mean you talk about samples of everything. If you could pm me then I can give you my phone number or e-mail. CMUGiRL

How do you "doctor" your cottage cheese?
CMUGiRL replied to crikkit's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
One of my favorite recipes is Cottage Cheese Pancakes. Make sure that you undercook them when you are on the mushy stage so that they smash well with your fork. The recipe is loaded with protein too! 2 eggs, 1 cup cottage cheese, 1/4 teaspoon salt, 2 tablespoons of water, 1/2 teaspoon vanilla, 2 tablespoons sour cream, 3/4 cup of flour, 1/2 teaspoon of baking powder, 2 tablespoons of Sugar Free Maple Syrup. In a bowl, mix all of the ingredients. Put some spray butter in the frying pan and cook until both sides are golden brown flipping once. Serve with unsweetened applesauce. This is so yummy. Not to mention, you can add more sugar free Maple Syrup before servingp; but I find it sweet enough mixed in the batter. My husband and son add more to their pancakes though. Also, my husband does not touch sour cream or cottage cheese and I never tell him what I make it with just that its pancakes. Well, try it and let me know what you think. CMUGiRL -
JR, I have a smoothie recipe that everyone has loved. This has over 40 grams of protein in about a 12 ounce smoothie. Recipe: half of bottle of Naked Protein Juice 5-6 strawberries sliced (frozen or fresh) equal amount of pineapple chunks 3 ounces of Soy milk 1 scoop of unflavored protein powder add ice and blend Enjoy!

POLL Should I have them redone to make them perfect... Breast pictures
CMUGiRL replied to princess_n_thep's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Jenna, The plastic surgeon that I spoke with told me that you most always want to choose a different fill amount for the left breast than the right if you want them even. Naturally, they are not even either. I hope this helps. CMUGIRL -
Winter Cruise anyone???
CMUGiRL replied to princess_n_thep's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Jenna, I would love to go, but I do not really have any availability until after next summer. I have a couple of weeks within the year off, however, everyone had different dates for spring break. I saw the pictures and I have never been on a cruise before. It is something that I am totally into doing too. CMUGIRL -
Sounds like fun. Unfortunately, I will not be able to come along. I am a teacher and get off the Christmas break in December already. Therefore, I am not allowed vacation time during December. However, I would like to attend if you ever make it during the middle of June again.

WOW!!! This trip was such a cool idea. I have never been on a cruise. Anyway, I just joined the group tonight. I will be undergoing the surgery on July 17th. I was convinced that I wanted the gastric bypass. However, my surgeon feels that I am a better candidate for the lap-band. I am still debating.
