Feeling better about liquid diet
sonya139 replied to Hollisterfan27's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you're having protein powder mixed with just water you will gag. You have to doctor it up. For example, I had one this morning that was delish, it had a scoop of chocolate protein powder (bariatric advantage), 2 teaspoons instant coffee (I'm still pre op), 1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa, and 1 tablespoon caramel sugar free Torani syrup and some ice, blened it. It was better than a Starbucks Mocha Frapp. -
self pay, waiting for answer for funding. about to lose it.

That is nice PdXman. Also have them read "the Sleeved Life" or if you have a local bariatric support group as a part of the hospital that's great for family members as well (that's if you're not planning on going to Mexico). Or you can have them watch Dr. Alvarez's videos (Endobariatrics), especially if you choose to go to him. -
I totally agree.

I too am not telling many people for the same reason and other reasons...I'm private by nature but I plan on being truthful in that I have changed my eating and increased my exercise. Those things would be true. That probably wouldn't fly with Bypass surgery because the weight loss is so fast but with the Sleeve weight loss being so steady that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Welcome...I haven't been sleeved yet either. Waiting on an answer from the insurance company.

I think it's super easy cooking for yourself but then again I've been doing it since forever

I don't see the problem with the protein smoothie unless theirs a lot of sugar in it. -

sonya139 replied to shoskins549's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This will be a good time to do a lot of research. I needed something to do while waiting....and waiting.....and waiting....and before I knew it I was turning my paperwork in to my insurance (which was last week) and I'm waiting again. But each day is one day closer -
Does obama care cover surgery?
sonya139 replied to donaboss's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I've never heard that. I read that after 2014 more insurances will cover the surgery since Obesity is now classified as a disease now. -

I have Cigna as well and turned in my paperwork after my 3 month (4 visits) supervised visits. My doctor was open with me telling hi what to document because I heard that you can be denied if they're not specific about your diet and exercise. I read his first note and it was too vague. I also wrote my letter of necessity which he blessed and put on his letterhead and signed.

You have to wait until you can get covered by FMLA. That protects your employment.

My medical group must approve my surgery?!?!

What's the difference between your medical group and your surgeon's office? I guess I'm confused. -
Pre Op meeting with Surgeon and Answers to my Questions
sonya139 replied to 1SuperBonBon's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My NUT said no to straws and that's what I've seen in research after research that I've done. Doctors give different advice so I think it's important to follow your own surgeon's direction. -
Mexico or Colombia Plastcs?
sonya139 replied to poohbear1019's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I have heard great things about Mexico. Plan to get my plastics done there if I need it. I haven't heard anything about Columbia. -
Has anyone tried these? Look great
sonya139 replied to a_jap21's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I tried them a while ago when I was eating sugar. I don't eat them any longer. -
People don't really die from VSG right?

Talk to your doctor about the experiences in his/her practice. They should be able to tell you the percentage, if any. -
Asking doctor to possibly modify surgery, need opinion
sonya139 replied to HalloweenBaby's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
In my pre-surgery meeting (or Education Meeting) I was focused on RNY. It's only been recent that I changed my mind and decided to get the Sleeve so I don't know if he mentioned it. I was basing my comment on research I've done. -
What did your NUT recommend for you?
