What do you have for Thanksgiving?

We are frying the turkey, and one for a friend. I made the deviled eggs tonight while DH peeled and chopped the potatos for the mashed, they are boiled and ready to be finished tomorrow. I have several cans of cranberry sauce in the fridge and several bags of frozen veggies ready to go. My mom is making sweet potato casserole, and pie. My sister is making ham and green ban casserol. I only have to cook the veggies, mash the taters, and heat the premade pies that I bought. There are going to be 13 of us tomorrow, I'm glad it's almost over. Happy Turkey day all. ~Mandy

    November chat...again....

I too bought the glogg. I have been adding a splash to my hot tea in the mornings. I love the fact that one of the ingredients in non-alcoholic wine. WTF??? wouldn't that be rotten juice then? Wine has alcohol....or so I thought. I was also told that the glogg is great added to a pork roast in the crock pot, I don't eat pork so I have no intention of trying it, but the lady at Ikea that was buying 2 cases of it swears by it. ~Mandy

    Port Pain...potential Remedy

I'm sorry if we offended you. I am not saying not to take aleve just to make sure to "wash" out the pouch when you do. I am sure that you have a great surgeon, I don't believe anyone was questioning that. I know that the packet I got from Inamed when I had surgery said to avoid INSAIDS like aleve. We were just saying to be careful that's all. I am sorry if that came across wrong at all. ~Mandy

What do you say when you get THAT question??

I have been pretty open about my surgery. There have been very few people that get the reduced portions and exercise, usually it's people that I don't ever see and am really uncomfortable telling them anything medical. ~Mandy

    November chat...again....

Kat, that is the only bump on her face, her back had about 70 or so on it. We are on day 8, and those pics were taken yesterday (day 7). She actually got several more pox yesterday, I am going to call the doctor tomorrow, I think she should be almost all better now, but she is still breaking out? I know some of her meds screw with her immune system and that has me worried. Also she has a gritty feeling, rash on her stomach and sides, it looks like red sand stuck all over her trunk. I talked to the PA yesterday and they said to call and talk to the doc Monday, but if it got worse or if she spiked a fever to get her to the ER. Poor baby, she has had the Pox, lost a tooth and had to miss a week of school. We haven't left the house in a week and she is getting a bit stir crazy. We put 2 of our 3 christmas trees up today, no decorations yet but the trees are up and they are pre-lit so that was fairly easy. Just time consuming, I had to move furniture around and figure out where everything was going. I have the decorations out and divided up according to what tree they are going on, I just have to put them on the trees. I am hosting Thanksgiving this year so I wanted to be decorated before thurs. This will be the only chance for some of my family to see my home for the holidays. I got a new tree last year after Christmas when target marked them 90% off and it is really nice. I was worried because I didn't get to see the sample tree, they were out of the one I wanted, but I got a more epensive one instead. It is more narrow than my old one but much more full and it's pre-lit. I will never buy another unlit tree now that I see how easy this one was to put up. I am spending the day tomorrow decorating trees and wrapping presents, I started shopping last week and I think it will look nice if there are already presents under the tree, and several of the gifts are for my nieces and they will be here, it'll drive them nuts knowing the gifts are right there and they can't have them...LOL Thanks for saying I look young enough to be Abi's sister. I don't do make-up ever and I take good care of my skin. I guess I am lucky, my mother has aged very well and I am taking after her. People always think my mom and oldest sister are twins. I think it is also all the water I drink, keeps me looking young. Abi and I take tons of pictures and we write in a journal each week, it will help me remember all the funny and amazing things she does and says. It also helps with her learning problems and is a great way to make sure we tell the psych group what's going on with her. Well I am off to bed, it's 12:45 and I am going to turn into a pumpkin. Night all ~Mandy

What do you have for Thanksgiving?

This will be my second thanksgiving banded. Last year I had some dark turkey with gravy, some mashed potatos, a bite of each veggie on the table and a tiny slice of pie. I also had some orange cranberry sauce (not the chunky kind). I passed on the dressing (I don't do bread well) and the dinner rolls. I also passed on the mushroom rice (I'm allergic to mushrooms) and I passed on the salad. I had a fine meal, I ate slowly and loved every bite. My advice, take your time, eat slowly and make sure to take small bites, just like you should at every meal. ~Mandy

I always tell people to fight fight fight. I did and won, after 3 appeals. I just wanted to clairify that each policy is different and some still may not cover it. I hope you are able to get 100% coverage as soon as the first of the year is here. ~ Mandy

What do you say when you get THAT question??

For the people that don't know about my surgery, I simply say, I'm eating a high protein, diet. Smaller portions, and I have stopped snacking. I also say, I have given up pop and now drink lots and lots of water. ~Mandy

Ron, it depends on the individual coverage, as every company has it's own exclusions. For example, BC BS normally covers birth control, however my husbands employer decided that since most of the employees were beyond child bearing years they have opted to exclude birth control, and surgical sterilization. So each policy is individual. I just don't want people getting their hopes up that all BC BS policies will be covering it. ~Mandy

    November chat...again....

Cassandra, I want you to know that we are all here, waiting to be your band sisters. I'll say a prayer for you tonight for an uneventfl surgery tomorrow and a smooth recovery. Do you have everything that you need? Go to he library and check out a few books and some movies if they have them. Keep yourself busy, have a cranberry tea for Thanksgiving, and hang out on LBT for company. ~Mandy
  22. Maybe eating causes your pouch to swell and that is the end result? Each body is so different, weird huh? ~Mandy

Just gave up and I got a letter from ins co.

My insurance covers it with a 40 bmi, or a 35 bmi with 2 co-morbid issues, diabetes and HBP are both in that catagory. I would fight for the surgery if you feel it will improve your quality of life. ~Mandy

    Port Pain...potential Remedy

If you are taking aleve make sure you are washing out your pouch, that little pill sitting in the pouch can make for serious trouble, an ulcer or it can lead to erosion. I was told to stay away from the stuff. ~Mandy
