    Anna Nicole Smith has died

The mom was always talking trash about her, discussing her problems, drug use. She has already publicly said that she believes drugs were the cause of her daughter's death, just like drugs killed her grandson. Insead of being the grieving mother she is doing inerviews and bashing her dead child. Some great mom huh? I guess she never heard if you can't say something nice.....~Mandy

I too made the mistake of posting in a canada thread, I got a PM asking me not to come back. I simply hit new post and then read what seems interesting to me. I won't make that mistake again, even though I think I helped to original poster, someone else ask to me refrain from posting in the canada section. I too hang out in an out of state thread (hi Kat ) and I am comfortable there, I am also in a local thread for my state and area. BTW I want a copy of that recipie Wheets? Kat? anyone? ~Mandy

    TGIF NJ chat!

Sounds like the nurse is fishing for something. Abi has a viral rash that is brought out by stress, and she is all broken out. The nurse wants to talk to the dermatologist. I got a note that says Abigale is not contagious, I told her in no uncertain terms that is all she is getting. I'm sure she will call again today, Abi miss yesterday for a doctors appointment. I have the note in her backpack, and she is on a new steroid cream, that's what the doc suggested. I told them no medical information is to be released to the school, I would give them the information that I wanted them to have. Don't give them more than you have to, a note explaining what he has and that he is ok to return to school is all they can require. You are not even required to tell them the treatment plan. I hope he is feeling better. ~Mandy
  10. This might sound totally crazy, but my hubby would pat my back, starting at my lower back and working his way to my shoulders. Like burping a baby. It helped the gas to rise and come out. Also a heating pad, on your back, between the shoulders works wonders. Hot peppermint tea will make it better too. I know that there are tons of suggestions being thrown your way, but some of them will help some people and some won't. The tea didn't do much for me with my band but worked wonders after my gallbladder. Hope something helps, and quick! ~Mandy

    Underwear During Surgery?

I was on a table with a triangle pad thing under my lower back, think doing a back bend with support. The equipment was placed above my head so I assume he was at my side, if he were between my legs he would not be able to reach the equipment. ~Mandy

Am I a candidate for this surgery?

I am 5' 4 and weighed 232 the day of surgery, my insurance covered it 100%. Do you have any other health problems? I had high cholestrol, and polycystic ovary syndrome, migraines, and knee problems. Most insurance companies require a BMI of 40 or Bmi of 36 with co-morbidities. Best of luck to you, you have come to the right place for information. ~Mandy

    Underwear During Surgery?

I too was given the oh so stylish paper undies....I wore them with my head held high. I had the paper gown to match, guess what I woke up in a cotton gown, so someone changed me in the process. I could have cared less....I had to go comando for my gall bladder removal, different hospital, different proceedure. I joked that if they didn't give me the versaid (sp?) very soon I was going to run and everyone in the waiting room would see my fat white nekkid ass. I was given the happy drugs, so fst it would make your head spin. Of course I went out laughing about running nekkid through the waiting room, made for a great recovery. I actually woke up laughing. Don't worry about the undies thing. We've all been there. ~Mandy
  14. Are you taking anything for the gas? I was allowed chewable gas-x and it really helped. ~Mandy

When you call the insurance...what do you say?

I also see that you are 17, most insurance companies will require you to be 18 to even be considered for WLS. It sucks but is a fact of life. ~Mandy
  16. I think the swelling idea is right on. I wasn't hugry for weeks after banding, then one day, I wanted food. I still don't feel ravinous or go into I'm starving mode anymore. I am much easier to live with now. I have to be careful to make sure my 5 year old daughter eats, she is on meds that kill the appetite and since I am never really hungry, we have gone hours and hours without eating. I have a reminder on my cell phone that alarms 3 times a day to remind me to eat....it actually says "Eat something.." I think the pins and needles feelings you are experiencing is nerves healing, at least that is what I was told when I asked about that feeling. Mine went away in about 3 weeks. I always tell new bandsters, that is does get better, it just takes time. ~Mandy
  17. I'm not saying the band is right for everyone, but this guy is bashing the band and it does work for some. I think the people being interviewed have been coached. There is another woman the is about to have the mini bypass and she says the exact same thing about the band...milk shakes and cookies. Seems odd that 2 different women at 2 different times make the same statement. And the fact that he is using youtube.com to bash another surgery seems underhanded. I would not even consider having bypass, and some may feel the same way. These videos may keep people from being banded, and they may never get help. Just seems to me that this doctor should promote his surgery, not bash another. ~Mandy

I have decided against the unfill, I am coming down with a sinus thing, and I think that was the slime/pb issue. I was fine with lunch and dinner yesterday. I will give it a week or so, and see how it's going. ~Mandy

Almost 2 years post op & pain?

Good luck tomorrow, I hope they are able to make the pain go away quickly. ~Mandy
  20. I have a friend that also hd by-pass, he looked great a year out, now at 5 years out he is almost back at his starting weight. He loved the weightloss, but didn't work at it. He started out over 400 pounds, looked really great for a while, but is not dieting and working out at a gym to drop the pounds. The by-pass works for a period of time, if you don't change your habits, and the woman in the video didn't, you will gain it all back. ~Mandy

Almost 2 years post op & pain?

Just make sure to stay hydrated. I know that dehydration is NO fun at all. Make sure you are getting plenty of liquids and calories to keep your strength up. The doc can better steer you tomorrow. I know I was on liquids for 14 days with no problems, so I am sure you will be fine as long as you are getting plenty of liquids. ~Mandy
  23. I'm not saying that it is always the bended persons fault when the band fails, but this woman admits to eating cookies, and milk shakes. I have been banded 18 months, and have only had a few milk shakes. I do eat sweets, but not as a staple. This woman says that healthy foods would not go down, sounds like she was too tight, after not being tight enough. Sounds like her fill doc was a bit too aggressive. I am pretty lax with my diet, I eat mostly what I want when I want. I eat carbs, I eat some sweets, and I love sugar free ice cream. I am almost at goal, it's taken me 18 months, but I am almost there. I wasn't expecting instant results, I was expecting 1-2 pounds per week. I am totally happy with my results. I understand that you have to work the band, I also understand that somepeople do work the band and it doesn't always work for them. MaryS, I'm sorry that the band didn't work for you, but I am sure that you also didn't turn to cookies and milkshakes and then blame the band like this woman did. ~Mandy
  24. This guy has a bunch of videos posted, all bashing the band, not just this one patient. I believe his specialty is by-pass conversion. Seems like his goal is/was band bashing, check out his other videos. ~Mandy

foods i can never eat again?

Mark, that is a great way to look at food. Here is my take on it. I can only eat about 3 cups of food a day. I would rather eat 3 cups of quality food, than 3 pounds of the crap I ate in the past. If I am going out and know I can only eat a small amount. I used to order the largest steak on the menu, quanity over quality everytime. Now I add a side of shrimp or lobster to my hubby's meal (if they offer that) or I order the smallest cut of steak (even though the cost the same as the biggest cut) the smaller cuts are more tender and flavorful. I will order the "princess" or "ladies" cut of filet, or a good rare Ahi Tuna, and I am one happy bandster. I bring home left overs even with the smallest cut, they are great reheated for lunch the next day. I leave more satisfied than I ever did in the past. A few quality bites are all I need now and I savor every bite I take. ~Mandy
