It has been a year and 2.5 cc its not working for my daughter.
piercedqt78 replied to ladysplenda's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
It could be her thyroid. Is she tired all the time? Hungry more often than she should be? Those are all signs of underactive thyroid. I had problems with mine when I was a teenager, and had problems staying awake long enough to even attend school. A simple blood test will check that. Just support her, and be there for her. I know it is hard to see her struggle, but if she isn't complaining, then let her do this her way. ~Mandy -
He works for the railroad (Union Pacific) and works what they call an extra board. It's like being a substitute teacher, except he works all hours of the day and night. They have to give him 8 hours of "rest" between shifts, but the don't take into consideration driving home, eating, showering, and then driving back to work. If he ends a shift at midnight they can call him at 5am to be back by 8am. He gets 3 hours notice if it's a regular job that someone else has called in sick or whatever for, 2 hours if it's an emergency job. It's a crazy life but he loves it and the pay is really good, as is the retirement and benefits. He could have a regular shift job, with days each week off but the money is waaay less, and he says while he is young he wants to work and make the big money. I am going back to work next year, so that will increase our income as well. I am going back as a teachers aide, in IL it's a simple certification, no extra schooling needed. I want to work with special needs kids, that is where my heart is. ~Mandy

Ugh...a rather personal question
piercedqt78 replied to slikchik10's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
If there are sugar substitutes in the shakes, that too will cause a laxative effect. ~Mandy -
Hi all, I'll be here in and out today. I'm still not feeling better. I saw the doc wed and they put me on a new antibiotic, and said if I'm not feeling better by the beginning of next week he is going to put me in the hospital, ugh.... I am also taking a probiotic, and getting lots of rest (or at least I'm trying) My hubby had already worked 6 shifts this week and will problably work 3 more this weekend. ~Mandy

90 day insurance wait for a fill?
piercedqt78 replied to sherilynn's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My surgeon didn't include anything other than the follow-up visit 1 week post-op. My fills we up to me with the original surgeon, they refused to even try to bill my insurance. I have switched surgeons and they bill the ins $1600 with flouro, the ins pays $800. Part to the hospital and part to the surgeon. But I have to pay nothing, both are in network. ~Mandy -
90 day insurance wait for a fill?

I got a fill 7 weeks post-op, no problems. My ins paid 100%. ~Mandy -
The band is meant to be in the body for life. I was hungry after surgery, before my adjustmnet, but being properly restricted helped. If the bad is removed you have a 50/50 shot at gaining the weight back. If you resume normal eating habits you will regain, if you have learned to eat right and actually do follow the new eating style, you can maintain the weightloss. I keep medication to prevent vomiting on hand at ALL times. I had a stomach flu last year and ended up in the ER unable to stop the dry heaves, they gave me something by IV and I was fine. I have never heard of anyone dying from lack of calories. A heart attack is possible if you have heart problems and are high risk, however most doctors do pre-op testing to make sure the heart and lungs are ok for surgery. There are some very small risks with ANY surgery, I was told the risk of banding was the same as having tonsils out, or appendix surgery. The anastesia was the main risk. I too have a special needs child and feel I am better able to care for her now that I have lost so much weight. Feel free to ask any questions you may have, also consider joining us for lunch. ~Mandy

I live on shrimp and fish, no problems. I make it with a bit of garlic, butter and white wine....yum! ~Mandy

We were looking at around 3 I believe. ~Mandy

Are you far way from her? I have a friend that gets his grandmother a handful of gift certificates to her favorite places, and then he comes to lunch with her every few weeks, she treats with her gift certificates. The real gift is the time they spend together. ~Mandy

Will my surgeon put the port on the side I want him to?
piercedqt78 replied to kyethra's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
As the others have said talk to him about it. Mine is on the left and I wish is was somewhere else. I am left handed and I constantly bump my port with laundry baskets, boxes, pretty much anything I carry. My surgeon would not put it on the right, I asked. But my surgeon was a jerk, I see someone else now I'm sure since you have a medical reason for it they will work with you. Remember if he agrees to placement on the other side or centered, remind him right before surgery. I'm sure the sugeon sees a bunch of people and probably dose multilpe surgeries in the same day, a reminder would be a good idea. ~Mandy -
Hi everyone, Cindy, have fun at the movie.... Kat, how's the babe today? Dianne how are you hanging in there? What did they decide to do? Darcy, sorry about the dreadmill, mine only works on 2 speeds, all the others glitch, so I am either going at a decent clip or running.....guess which one I choose???? Hi, to everyone else....I'll be back later. ~Mandy

Contact Inamed and they will send you the packet. It has a restaurant card explaining the band. It also has medical info on it. There is a book about the band, diet and support information. ~Mandy

If you take something it might need attention and you are masking it. Keep an eye on it, maybe check it when you take your pain meds? Every 4-6 hours? Write it down along with the time. I'm sure it's just the body reacting to surgery. ~Mandy

along the same lines as this, there is a woman around my area that has "wz hz onc" was his once, it's on a classic corvette, she got it in the divorce. ~Mandy

Either is fine with me....I know we have people from everywhere coming. I love Panera's black bean soup. I also like the turkey sandwich with no bread, they have this great ale mustard with sun dried tomatos....yummmmm. ~Mandy
-
Panera is fine with me also. Do they have veggie options? We do have at least one vegatarian joining us, Hi veggiestyle!! I'm cool with just about anywhere, I was just trying to think of a place that would let us sit and talk. Panera ok with everyone else? ~Mandy

Kat, also consider freezing the grapes, cut them in half first. The cold will help her mouth feel better and they are like little bite sized frozen candy. I know Abi loves them like that. Also grapes are fluids, let her have them all, just make sure they are not giving her diarrhea. ~Mandy

There is a picture of the band on my card from Inamed. It helps to explain things too. ~Mandy

Queston about a Creamer
piercedqt78 replied to shelley00's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
During pre-op? I would check, I was not allowed any dairy other than sugar free yogurt. Some are not allowed dairy during pre-op at all. I was allowed tea or coffee (both had to be decaf) and no cream. I drink cream in my tea all the time, so it was very difficult for me, but doable. ~Mandy -
Why am I SOOOO COLD??
piercedqt78 replied to waitingtiljan's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 18 months post-op and still freezing. I was told it was 3 things, 1. lower calorie intake, makes for a colder body. 2. less fat to keep us warm 3. possibly low Iron, common after any weightloss surgery. Grab a blanket and stay warm. ~Mandy -
Kat, so glad to hear she is grumpy, that is always a good sign. That's how we know when Abi is getting better, she becomes a total monster. At least the mouthwash is ok for her to swallow. Sounds like this doc has it all under control. Keep us updated. ~Mandy

Hand Foot and Mouth is really hard to get rid of. Abi got it from Chuck E Cheese, and it took several weeks and she was on a medicine to prevent the secondary infection. She developed it anyway. I am sure she will be fine, prayers are going up for your little one....There is a medicine that they give babies for Thrush, I can't remember the name of it, but it is a liquid antibiotic and it coats the mouth (kinda thick and milky). I will see if I can find the name of it. Beaware that adults can get this and it has been known to be passed around a house several times. Make sure you are running the dishwasher on the hottest setting, I was also told to add a cup of bleach to each load. Toss out toothbrushes, and any toys that she put in her mouth need to be sanatized, clorox makes a spray that is even safe to spray on highchairs and in food prep areas that disinfects and is kid safe. Preventing a reinfection is very important. Keep us updated. (((hugs))) ~Mandy

Dianne, I hope they keep him for his own sake. He needs medical attention and nurses are the best people to give him that. You need rest and to take care of yourself too. (((hugs))). ~Mandy

I have also done the ranch dressing with chicken. I love cilantro dressing also, I get it from trader joe's. ~Mandy
