My surgeon requires you attend a seminar. They don't sell themselves at the seminar at all, they explain the different types of surgery and the pre-op and post-op diet and lifestyle changes. They also collect insurance information and verify coverage before making an appointment. When I attended my seminar they had patients there to answer questions about eating, energy levels, exercise and how the surgery is working for them. I didn't feel like it was a sales pitch at all. ~Mandy

Beanie, good luck on the interview tomorrow, I know you will get the offer. Jut give them a smile and wow them with your personality. That job is as good as yours. Let us know as soon as you know something. (((hugs))). By the way smoking is always a bad thing I am an ex-smoker and now being around smoke kills me. Congrats on the walking. I need to get my butt in gear. I walked just over a mile today, and attempted to take the dog with me. Instead of a nice walk, I had to carry her furry a** home. She only weighs 16 pounds but still I think I should get double miles for having to carry her too. She begs to go, gets to the end of the block and then lays down, looks at me and whines to be carried. She is a brat. ~Mandy

Kat, I still love ya' even when the lazy gene kicks in....I have it bad tonight too. Congrats on the great niece. Betty, the flowers are beautiful, I kill everything I touch. I had a woman come and dig up the lilies from my soon to be destroyed flower bed. I am digging out the beds and planting grass in their place. I have killed sooooo many plants that I finally gave up. I have a black thumb.... Chrispy, do I know the bandster that will be there? Are they or were they ever members here? Did they manage to get the free dining? I am not a member at b2g, I had some issues with the way things went down here and some of the people that are there, keep me from being there. I saw some really ugly sides of people right before that site was opened. I got an invite to join but decided to stay here. Actually I am glad that all that crap happened, that is how I ended up finding my little corner here in NJ. Dianne, rest, heal, and enjoy the popcorn. Get the family to do the laundry, and carry in the groceries. I know it's hard but give it up girly and rest. Sherry, I'm glad your baby is ok. From the looks of his car he did have an angel with him. Tell him the girls from LBT are praying for him and we all say Hi! and hope he feels better really soon. Maybe we should get him and Dianne together and they can catch up on their reading and movies. Hey, that's what Dianne needs a sit and do nothing buddy. Patty, do you have a date? I forget..I would forget my head if it wasn't attached. That and it's late, and I haven't slept very well in a few days. How are the kids? Been to Disney lately? Did you hear that Disney and McDonald's are no longer going to be working together? I wonder if they will still sell mcd's fries and nuggets in the parks? Also there are 2 huge Mcd's at WDW, wonder if they will stay there? There is one at Downtown Disney and one just outside of the All Stars Resorts. It is a 3 story building with a full sized dessert area. A very cool place to grab a cheap ice cream and rest. We have been there a few times and I will miss it if it is gone. I personally could care less about the one at DTD, it could go and they could put something else there. I know there are plans for a Dinosaur place ran by the same people that run Rain forest Café' the McDonald's building would be perfect for that. I also wonder who will do Kids meal Disney toys, Wendy's would be nice. Darcy, how are you? Are you shopping for the cabin? I can see you doing cool things there. Making memories, and building unbreakable family bonds there. Many happy memories start with a simple weekend of relaxing. Cindy, What would it take to talk you into coming to WDW in Sept for some LBT play time???? How is Haven? I can't wait until Abi is old enough to play sports. She has no interest in girl scouts at all and there really isn't much for girls her age. She isn't graceful at all so dancing or gymnastics would be a disaster. I can see her in a cast for sure. It's a good thing we didn't name her grace. She is an artist at heart but there are no art classes until she is 7. I got her an easel and paints and she is in heaven. I have started taking pictures of her artwork, and storing them on cd, there are so many of them that I can't keep them all. Other than that what's up with you? To anyone I missed, sorry it's late night sleep deprived brain damage. I read every post, and try to keep up with everything but that's so hard when the brain functions like the batteries are half dead. Ok, for my update. I don't have much information. I was supposed to have my test results monday, tues at the latest. I called and the nurse claims the results didn't arrive. I called the hospital and they claim the results were faxed monday morning and they would fax them again. I waited 45 mins and called back to the doctor's office, still no results were available. Then yesterday the doc's office left a message that I needed to go and have some more blood work done. I have an appointment tomorrow for those test. I don't know what they are testing, or even how many tests they are doing. I can't get any answers, I am going to call again tomorrow. I am starting to think there is something wrong and they don't want to tell me on the phone. The blood work was going to tell us if there was a tumor, or something going on with my hormones. I am totally breaking out like a teenager, I have had 3 episodes of severe lower left side abdominal pain. Feels like my ovary is busting. I am calling tomorrow and asking to be worked into sat schedule. I can't sit and be in pain and not have any kind of answers. It's driving me crazy. I also want the referral to the surgeon so I can get the ball rolling on the hysterectomy. I am done with all the female problems. I think that with my family history, the pain, and my past problems it shouldn't be a problem getting it approved with the insurance. I am hurting now and nothing seems to make the pain ease up. I have tried heat, pain meds, ice, hot baths, caffeine, walking, resting. I simply give up, I need to be seen again. I will let you all know if I get any answers. I'll check in later. ~Mandy

If you click the new post button it brings up ALL the posts that you have not read. It is working. I use that all the time so that I can see what has been posted since I was last here. Most things are working without issue now. During the change over I have started copying my post so if they disappear I can just re-paste them and move on. ~Mandy -
I was on clear liquids for a few days (if you have a trader joes near you they have the best veggie broth in a carton), then whole liquids (milk, cream soup strained and yogurt or fruit smoothies, again trader joes has squash soup also a sweet potato soup, I love the tomato but the acid isn't recomended right after surgery) for a few more days then mushies for a week (guac, apple sauce, egg salad) then soft foods (fish, over cooked veggies, mashed potatos, fine ground meat) then regular foods. I was bended almost 2 years ago and I know most doctors have more strict rules post-op. It will probably be 1 week clear liquids (popsicles, jello, all the water you can drink I lived on Propel) then whole liquids for the other 3 weeks. But double check with the doctors office. I forgot to add to my list, shoes that slip on. I tried to tie my shoes the day after surgery and it was painful. I wore slip on for about a week. My local walgreens was able to get adult liquid and chewable tylenol for me, also the walgeens band gas-x chewables are great. If you have any questions feel free to ask here, the jersey girls are a great source of info. Most of us have had our bands for a while so ask away. ~Mandy

If your bed is that high I would suggest sleeping in a chair or recliner the first night or two. That is what I did and I am glad I did. The first night I was in my bed, it was hard trying to get up without help. I would say give yourself a night or so to heal without having to strain to get up or down. ~Mandy

lab-band shopping list heating pad flexible ice pack liquid tylenol (they make adult strength) chewable or liquid gas-x a few books or movies comfy clothes (loose waisted shorts or jumpers) squishy pillow for car ride (guard against seatbelt) a sports bra (doc said no underwire for a few days) protien shakes flavored water make sure you have a good blender I bought a drink mixer for the protien mix (cost $10 at walmart) broth or stuff to make broth sugarfree popsicles and jello sugar free gum (ask your doctor) sugar free breathmints (ask your doctor) *Ask at your pre-op for the pain med prescription so you can have it all ready to go when you get home, our walgreens has to order liquid pain meds and it takes 3 days to get them.

Jenny, 1st welcome. Congrats on your date. Please let us know how things are progressing as you continue your journey. There is lots to do between now and then. I have a list posted on here somewhere of things that you will need for post-op. I will try to find it and repost it here. ~Mandy

Petite portions at Outback steak house!
piercedqt78 replied to waterlily1072's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I know that Outback will let you order off the kids menu, and it has ribs (5 or 6 in the order) steak, and grilled chicken. I have had the kids steak several times and it is really good. I also love the shrimp and pasta meal with no pasta. ~Mandy -

Sonia, we will take you stinky or not. It's just nice to see you. And since you are stinking for a good cause, it's that much better. Anytime the 5th is fine with me. ~Mandy -

the links in emails are still not working. Also everytime I use quick reply, it gives me an error message, sometimes it posts, other times it doesn't. -
It took 4 tries to get that to post....also the links in my email no longer work. Where did all the ads come from? Did I wake up in a parallel universe today??? I'm going back to bed. ~Mandy

Dianne, sounds like a great offer. I would love to have Dave home at night. He works on-call 24/7 and works all shifts. Sometimes he works 1st and 3rd shift in the same day....ugh! So I have to settle with sharing the king bed with the dog and 2 cats.I say go for the tummy tuck too. Most insurance companies do not pay for skin removal/reduction. Let us know what you decide, we are here for you. (((hugs))) ~Mandy

Dianne, that sounds like a great offer. I would jump at the chance for a tummy tuck, most insurance companies do not cover them. I would love for my hubby to have a normal schedual. He works oncall 24/7. Losing the vacation sucks, but sounds like the benefits are worth it. Is the new company willing to work something out for a little extra vacation time? Let us know what you decide. (((hugs))) ~Mandy

How do you know a goal weight?
piercedqt78 replied to WASaBubbleButt's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have a goal weight but it has changed several times since being banded. I want to be in a size 8 or 10. I am in an 11 or 12 now. Most of what I have left to lose is extra skin. If I lift up the excess skin I can put a size 10 wrap skirt on with no problem. I know it's weird that I know that but I do I want to have a lower body lift done, but I get the feeling I will have a fight if I want insurance to pay. ~Mandy -
I probably could have slept on my stomach at 5 days too but I was a big ole chicken..~Mandy

I know that they normally have to do minor surgery to fix a flipped port. Some do this under local I believe, others under a seditive. Let us know how it goes, remember a fill can kick in 10-14 days later. Also if they are able to access the port maybe it will be fine as is. ~Mandy

4 wks now: eat & drink together?
piercedqt78 replied to guns n roses's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I gave up gum for that very reason, but a mint works well too...~Mandy -
That was in a tabloid right? I would think they would have highlighted the scars not tried to hide them. I don't think she had the band, she has always bounced her weight up and down. I don't care for her, but if she is happy that's great. I know that I would be proud if I was able to lose that much weight on my own, fighting with drug addiction, the constant spotlight and being a single mom. Good for her however she did it as long as she is healthy. ~Mandy

I can't eat the bread and McD's just doesn't taste all that good when you really chew it properly. I also can't eat those fries, that is a pb everytime. I can eat taco bell, usually 1/2 a mexican pizza with extra meat or extra beans. I can also do wendy's chili, or white castle chicken rings. Burger King and McD's are pretty much out for me. I did have a yogurt parfait from McD's a few days ago, I put it in the blender and made a smoothie. Wendy's has yogurt as an option now too, so that works well for me. I am also hooked on Popeye's crawfish basket when they have it, I get red beans (no rice) as my side. The basket makes 2 meals for me. I do fast food, but modified versions of it. I also love chipotle, a bol makes 3 meals for me. ~Mandy
