Dizzy (and I am only dyed blonde)
piercedqt78 replied to susansilver's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
If I take half the prescribed dose of pain meds I am dizzy. I took pain meds at night for 5 days. Only liquid Adult strength tylenol during the day. Some people need pain meds for several days. I know of a few bandsters that were still hurting a week post-op. Everyone has a different experience with banding. ~Mandy -

The back pain is from gas most likely. The dizziness could also be from pain meds. I was dizzy from lack of calories. It will get better each day. ~Mandy -
I'm no longer getting e-mail updates for this thread, is it only me? ~Mandy

Patty, I used the ice pack for swelling around my port the first few days. I would check the vitaminshoppe.com for the protein. Or do a google shopping search. ~Mandy

Here is my list: lab-band shopping list heating pad flexible ice pack liquid tylenol (they make adult strength) chewable or liquid gas-x a few books or movies comfy clothes (loose waisted shorts or jumpers) squishy pillow for car ride (guard against seatbelt) a sports bra (doc said no underwire for a few days) protien shakes flavored Water make sure you have a good blender I bought a drink mixer for the protien mix (cost $10 at walmart) broth or stuff to make broth sugarfree popsicles and Jello sugar free gum (ask your doctor) sugar free breathmints (ask your doctor) *Ask at your pre-op for the pain med prescription so you can have it all ready to go when you get home, our walgreens has to order liquid pain meds and it takes 3 days to get them.

My new window is being put in today!! woohoo!! Of course that means I have to paint this week. But I am ready for it. I HATE the curent window and since it is damaged I can't open it. It's in my living room so there is no fresh air for us. That will all change today. I'll be back later. ~Mandy

I hate to be negative, but the insurance company can take upto 30 days to review your information. It can happen faster, but they have the right to take a full month for a review. Good luck to you. ~Mandy

I went to the band doc yesterday and received really good news. I was starting to think there was something wrong. I have been having really crazy restriction, then none at all. PB'ing and then able to eat everything in sight. I was also having really bad reflux. My doc said that with all the stress of everything going on in my life (he is aware of my female issues, and also Abi's mental health issues and has been a God send to me). He is telling me that stress causes the stomach to produce more acid, and then the lining of the stomach absorbs more Fluid to protect it from the acid that it's producing. Well if you take a really small pouch (mine is unusually small) and then add swelling from the Water it is hard to keep things down. I was worried about erosion because erratic restriction is a sign of erosion. I am now on Prevacid OTC and have a follow-up in 8 weeks. If things get worse or do not improve he wants to see me again in 2 weeks. I started the Prevacid yesterday and was able to eat lunch and dinner today without any problems. For the last 2 weeks I considered myself lucky if I could eat a single meal each day. It seemed like if my body was ok at lunch and I didn't eat lunch I was just out of luck. I was skipping Breakfast everyday, even yogurt wouldn't go down. I didn't want to panic over this, and typing it here made it too real for me to handle, so I didn't say anything. I left the doctors office, skipping all the way to my car. I was so relieved his confidence that my band was fine. Today I went to the gyno and I have not so great news from that visit. I have an appointment to see a surgeon on the 25th. She is going to do a laporoscopy (I know I spelled that wrong). The pain is a mystery, so they are going to take a peek inside and see what is going on. My doc is thinking endometriosis (again spelled that wrong). I signed the waiver so that if I need the hysterectomy they can do it while I am already under anesthesia and already have incisions. I am fine with that, but I have to wait until the 25 to even meet the surgeon. It sucks that I have to wait that long but she is very very good. She works out of the same hospital that my band surgeon does so he can consult with each other. Betty, I am so sorry you were hit so hard with all the storms this week. We had them last Thursday, and our kids were retained at school until after 5:30. It wasn't safe to send them on the bus. Abi wasn't at school, she had a doctors appointment, and we were 4 blocks from where the tornado touched down. We had to go to the basement of the medical building until the weather cleared. Then when we got home we discovered that the town next to ours was one of the worst areas hit. Scary stuff. Cindy, how is the ankle today? How is Haven taking the the softball loss? Brianna, welcome. I am from Chicago and have a special needs 5 year old daughter. She has epilepsy, and is bi-polar. My hubby works for the railroad and I am going back to work full time next year when my daughter Abi starts full time school. I am originally from Jacksonville Fl, and have been here almost 13 years. I am a total Disney Nut....just ask Mickey. I'll check in later, Mandy

piercedqt78 replied to piercedqt78's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I went to the band doc today for a follow-up. I have been having really bad acid reflux, so I started Prevacid OTC today. He say's it's from stress. I am pretty happy with my loss so far, I only have 10-15 pounds to go and most of that is skin that needs to be removed. ~Mandy -

HELP !!! I gained 3lbs.
piercedqt78 replied to Smoothgirl14's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There are a few things to be addressed here 1) weight will bounce up and down a few pounds in a days time. I can weigh as much as 5 pounds more in the evening than I did that very same morning. 2) Every scale is different, even two medical scales that are calibrated the same with in a day or so one can be off by as much as 3 or 4 pounds. 3) THE FIRST 6 WEEKS ARE FOR HEALING....I don't think that can be stressed enough. About 50% of people gain before the first fill. After surgery you lost a good amount of weight and it's normal to gain some of it back when you start to resume normal foods. Also soft/mushie foods are usually high calorie or high fat. 4) if you are running 4x a week you are probably gain muscle and that weighs more than fat. Try measuring once a week instead of weighing. ~Mandy -
Hey, where is everyone today? ~Mandy

Kat, it's great that he is home, but I am sure you are a nervous wreck. Make sure he is RESTING and not trying to overdo. Glad to hear that he is stable enough to be at home. Keep us updated. ~Mandy

Kat, let us know if you need anything. I am so sorry that Rick's family is being so difficult. I'm sure this is hard enough without having to deal with them too. (((hugs)))... Tell RIck to hang in there, the LBT girls are all pulling for him. ~Mandy

Not to be negative about the weightloss attempts, but some insurance companies require it to be medically supervised. I was told that unless Atkins was advised and monitored by my doctor it didn't count. I was lucky that I had High Cholestrol and checked in with my doctor every month for a year. I was on a low fat low cholestrol diet and managed to lower my cholestrol by 15 points with just diet. So the proved that I did follow some sort of diet. I also checked in at the office monthly with the NP for weigh-ins and BP checks. ~Mandy

Patty, My b-day is in Feb. I'm not sure about bringing Abi, Dave and I try to sneek off once a year or so without her. I ALWAYS pack an extra suitcase cuz....I love to shop. I go to property control and company D at WDW when we go. I have a very good friend that works in EPCOT and he says I'm his sister. I can easily drop a few hundred bucks in each place. I pack my med suitcase inside a large suitcase so I have less luggage to drag to the airport. Then mid trip I do a load of laundry so that we can wear all the cool park gear we buy. So all of our clothes go into the large suitcase and then I have our med suitcase and Abi's small case to pack souvies in. I got a system, or a problem not sure but it works for me. DH laughed at me too, but I wanna walk where Walt walked, and see what he had a hand in making. Did I mention that I am obsessed with Walt? Not just the Disney empire, but Walt himself too. I'm a nut I know. A few weeks ago I drove past the home where Walt was born, it's not that far from my house. It was for sale, they were asking $800,000 and it's in a bad neighborhood and pretty small, but cool to see. You had to have proof of financing to look at it, so I was out of luck on that, but it was still cool to see from the outside. Kat, I am sending prayers for Rick, and positive thoughts, wishes, and hugs to you. Girl, you must be the strongest woman alive. I went through a major injury with Dave when Abi was 12 weeks old and my Mom told me that God only gives you what you can handle, that's why I believe you are so strong. If you need to talk I think you have my number, if not I'll PM it to you. I'm here when ever you need me. I'm a night owl so call anytime. Sherry and Chrispy, they announced the dates for the Halloween Party, and I think the only date while you are there is the 21st. The tickets are almost $50, the party is good but we only paid $35 last year. And there are no discounts on the tickets for that night. (it's a friday) Last year I got advanced purchase price and also my Annual pass discount. None of those apply to that night. My dining is all planned if you want a copy of our restauant picks let me know. I'm in desperate need of a shower and more coffee. I'll pop back in later. ~Mandy
