Morning all, it's hot here in Chicago today. Abi lost a tooth yesterday, I didn't even know it was loose. She told me she had a loose tooth but was wiggling a top tooth. She lost yet another bottom tooth. She's lost 3 of the bottom and none on top, is that normal? It was funny, she came down stairs with a tissue in her mouth and said her mouth was bleeding. I jumped up to look at it and her tooth was gone. We went into her room and it was laying on the floor. I guess it just fell out. She got $3 in Disney dollars from the tooth fairy (her and Tinker Bell are friends ya' know). There are 2 more that are sorta wiggly so she's going look kinda funny when this is all over with. She's excited by the fact that she can put a straw and french fries in her mouth through the opening, gross kid huh? She also told us last night that she believes the tooth fairy takes her teeth and makes necklaces out of them, (vodoo fairy??). My niece believed that the tooth fairy recycles teeth into babies mouths, yuck! Today I am cleaning house, I haven't been able to vaccum since surgery. Dave did it, but he did it guy style, not my style. I am going top to bottom over the next few days. I can't stand a messy house. I'll check in later, Hope every is having a great day. ~Mandy

Unfilling (is that a word?) before vacation, your thoughts?
piercedqt78 replied to FatBoySlim's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I never said to unfill to cheat, and I also never said anything about the day is all about food, you mixed two qotes together there. I have to be partially unfilled in order to fly and still be able to swallow my own saliva. I also said that when partially unfilled I maintain band rules other than a single grilled cheese sandwich. I would hardly say that I have a lower lever of commitment over a grilled cheese sandwich once a year. I'm lucky I can eat most things, like steak, with too many problems. My doctor has me at a very sweet spot, I have to work to get my Protein and 1200 calories in each day. My 4 small meals are just that very small, and I do 4 of them because I am now doing a toning routine and smaller more fequent meals was reccomended by a doctor, I'm not grazing or cheating my slipping a 4th meal in my diet. And I have news for you, not every band is there for a lifetime, get your head out of the clouds. Eroions happens, slippage happens, even to "perfect" bandsters. I have seen too many bands be lost by good friends that floowed the rules, to sit and say without any doubt that my band is for life, don't kid yourself, thins can go wrong. I went into this hoping and praying my band woul be for life too, but that isn't always to case. I learned how to eat properly, and how to stay fit, and managed to pass that test when I had to be unfilled for 3 months due to reflux from personal stress. Remember that the band was made by humans, and can fail, it is also not a natural thing in the body and can be rejected. Don't count on it to ALWAYS be there. ~Mandy -

Unfilling (is that a word?) before vacation, your thoughts?
piercedqt78 replied to FatBoySlim's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have a different outlook on this. I think if you are not using the band to learn a new way of eating and living then you should really reconsider how/what you are doing. People can and do have issues and have to have their bands removed. I for one am glad that if my band has to be removed I have learned how to control my eating. Use your band to learn a new lifestyle, don't count on it to always be there, one day it may not be. ~Mandy -

I had issues with reflux and was unfilled for 3 months. I gained.....1/2 a pound in 3 months. I am so close to goal that most of my excess weight is loose skin at this point. So dropping pounds is almost impossible for me at this point. My band doc, was impessed that I managed to maintain for 3 months without any real help from my band. I told him that I had really learned how to eat and what it feels like to be satisfied, not stuffed. He was impressed, but said that is what he considered a true band success. ~Mandy -

I had pizza over the weekend, it was delight from papa murphys. Half the calories and carbs of normal pizza, loaded with Protein and really very good. It's a cracker thin crust, with chicken, spinich, feta cheese, garlic and sun dried tomatos. I had several pieces over the weekend. No guilt. It was good, but not "real pizza" I guess. I also have steak all the time. I eat a playing card deck size piece, and some veggies and I'm done. I don't have any problems with steak. That being said I'm not disagreeing with you at all. I am unable to eat Rice, Pasta, and most bread. Like I said before I have to be partially unfilled before flying, and you better believe I have a grilled cheese sandwich before going back for a fill. I don't go crazy with double cheese burgers and fries (another no-no for me) But I do have a single grilled cheese sandwich. I always joke with my band doc and I will see him in a few weeks, and a few pounds heavier, but it has never happened. I still manage to lose weight even when I am less restricted. I still share meals with my daughter, and we share Desserts too. I still avoid carbonation, sugar and carbs. Just because I lose some restriction doesn't mean I lose my mind too. ~Mandy -
Today is Abigale's birthday. She is the big 6 today. We have a big day planned. Build-a-Bear, lunch and then we are baking cup cakes tonight. Her party is on the 30th, I wanted to make sure we were both healed from surgery so I gave us some time. We are cooking out for the party, but today it's girls day out!! ~Mandy

I get a very small unfill before traveling, because when I fly I can't even keep saliva down for 48 hours after. So my unfill makes me at normal restriction after flying. Then a week after I get home I go back and get that tiny bit put back. I usually try to schedual a chack-up at the same time so the doc can check out my bloodwork and take a peek at my band (my fills are all with fluro) at the same time. We discovered the hard way that flying really screws with my restriction, I spent most of my vacation feeling like crap in 90+ temps, and struggling to drink even water. ~Mandy -
I had been in pain for over 3 years, being told it wasn't my gallbladder. My band doc did the hyda scan and removed my GB a week later. I've been pain free for 16 months now. ~Mandy

All went well at the post-ops. Abi has one more appointment in 6 weeks, but her nose looks good. Keep her in your prayers that she doesn't start to bleed again. I saw my sugeon today also. She put me on birth control pills and referred me to another doctor. I have seen him before, he specializes in pelvic pain. (pelvic conjestive syndrome) I went to him once before, for the same problem, and had to have coils inplanted in the veins in my abdomen. It worked, but only briefly. I am back in the same boat, much worse this time. The veins are 4 or 5 times the size this time and the little coils may not work again. I have an appointment with another surgeon for a second opinion on the 6th of next month. I'll let you know what happens then. ~Mandy

Hi all!!! I am just checking in for a quick second. Kat, how's Rick today? And Kinsey? Is that stylish Diva cast getting more acceptable? Poor babe, tell her that pink is THE color for summer. Darcy, I can see page 2, but other things are screwy for me. I'm sure Cindy is soakin up the sun and lovin' on my Mouse..... she didn't put me in her luggage....I hope she is having a blast. Today is my post-op, Abi's post-op and some more tests for Abi (x-ray) so it will be a long day but at least it will be easy. I'll check in later. ~Mandy

Hi all, I'm just checking in. Today was calm, I took a nap and we went to lunch with my mom and step-dad. I am still sore and tired. My steri-strips came off last night and I am bleeding a bit, nothing major so I am not going to panic about it. I see the doc on Monday. What is everyone up to this weekend? ~Mandy

Yes, that is the first thing they look for. The more medical information they have on you, the better care they can provide. ~Mandy -

Will the edit function ever be fixed? ~Mandy -
Cindy, give the Mouse a hug for me and tell him I'll be there soon. Make sure you guys drink loads of water and use extra sunscreen. Oh and pack me in your suit case. LOL. I am feeling a bit better, still sore, but better. I am looking for a doc to do the hysto. The surgeon that I am seeing right now wants to put me into chemical menopause, not surgical....what's the diff? I am sooo tired of hurting all the time. So I am sugeon shopping this week. I will see what I can do. ~Mandy

Ask for a hyda scan. It tests the gall bladder function, not just for stones. ~Mandy

Larger than expected incision
piercedqt78 replied to soulsis78's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My port incision is 3.5 inches long, that's pretty common. There is a scare stages post with hundreds of scare pictures. I have a regualr original port. ~Mandy -
For history also consider St. Augustine FL. Beautiful, and the fountain of youth is there. In Tennesee is Dollywood. (Dolly Parton's theme park) just beautiful. ~Mandy

Hi all, I'm home from the hospital. My surgery went well. No hystorectomy for me today. They did the hydro abalation. And discovered that I have HIGE vericose veins. (golf ball size) I will talk to her in a week at the follow-up. She is going to give me something that will totally shut down my ovaries, and we will talk about another sugery I guess. I am pretty sore and tired but I am home. I'll pop in again tomorrow. ~Mandy

My mom says if I lose any more I will look "too thin" I am a size 10/11 and really happy with where I am, but I could be smaller. Most of my remaining weight is saggy skin, and I want it gone. ~Mandy

MapQuest vs. Google Maps - which one is better?
piercedqt78 replied to JeninCO's topic in Rants & Raves
I really really like Google maps.....it brings people right to my door, where yahoo maps and and Mapquest, leads them all over the place, eventually ending at my house. ~Mandy
