Dr. Lahmann (silver Cross Hospital, Joliet) does my aftercare. My surgeon is no longer in the area. Most places will help you fight the insurance company. After all that's how they get paid. If they don't help people get approved, they can't do surgery. A great place to start is Welcome to LAP-BAND.com they will send you a list of surgeons in the area. Then you have to call around and see who takes your insurance, go to a seminar, and finally meet with a surgeon. They will do an initial consultation, submit to your insurance for pre-approval. Then you get to wait. If you are denied make sure they will be willing to appeal with/for you. That was one of my first questions before I even made the seminar appointment. Feel free to ask any other questions you may have. ~Mandy

Jetti, 20 pounds can happen and often does. It is some water weight and some from the lack of food. Please don't panic if you re-gain some of that weight before the first fill. As you add solids some of the weight can return. When I was allowed allowed pureed foods I had wendy's chili in the blender. Not so pretty but it dose taste really good. For full liquids try jello, yogurt smoothies, and cream soups diluted really well with fat free milk. There is an entire food forum on here, and some great ideas for all stages of post-op eats. I'm sorry you are still feeling blah, but it does get better. (((hugs))) ~Mandy

Sherry and Anne, try chewable gas-x. The band traps gas in the lower stomach and it can be really uncomfortable. Also because the pouch is so small if a tiny amount of gas gets in there, it hurts bad. I had the same problem and now a gas-x and I'm back to 100%. I need a fill but I'm affraid to be too tight. UGH! If he would do a tiny fill I would be great but he gets a bit agressive and then I'm barfing my own spit.... I need to work harder too, but that's a whole 'nother post. I have to shower and get ready for work, tonight I'm painting a bathroom so it can get put back together. But I'll check in when I'm done. ~Mandy

    NJ November Thread

Hi all, I did my least fave thing today. I went shopping with my MIL. She can be a real bear, but she was ok today. We shop together one day each year for Christmas. I usually have my SIL to help ease the tension, but this year it was just me and her. We did get everything bought today, so it's over until next year. Sherry, did you know about the "bounce back" program at Disney? If you rebooked for next year while there, you got free dining again. Maybe if you called and complained that it wasn't offered they would let you book it now. We did, I'm already counting down the days. You DH sounds great, I'm sure Disney would bring out this huge romantic kid in him. I know of men that were total duds make the most romantic proposals there, it's funny how the magic happens. The good news is that since they offered the bounceback, they will have the free dining to the public again in the spring for the mid aug-Oct 1st again. Chrispy, how is the new fellow? Cindy, are you recovering from tea? Are you going to be subbing a bunch or just here and there? I know in our district you can work just about full time if you are a sub. Is it the same there? Are you only subing for the public school, or the private school or both? What is Haven wanting for Christmas? Abi wants anything and everything Hannah Montana. She also wants HSM stuff. I am all Hannah'd out. We are redoing her room in a rockstar theme, it's going to be cute. She says she has outgrown the Princesses, that makes me sad but I can deal with it, she is growing up. It does mean the we get to ride rides instead of waiting for autographs while in the parks. Betty, learning a new position makes you more valuable, remind the boss of that at review time. ($$$) Patty, how are you? Been to MK recently? Next time you go say Hi to Mickey for me. The weather here is crappy, and it's only going to get colder everyday. I wanna live somewhere sunny. I'm freezing and it's still in the 40's. We got an airhocky table last week and have played it a ton already. I need better pucks, any suggestions on where to get good ones? I'm off to search out something for dinner, not sure what yet, as there isn't much in there. I didn't make it to the store yesterday. I'll go tomorrow afterwork. ~Mandy

    Anybody in South Jersey

That's actually not true. You have to go through the "fellowship" for Inamed to give you a reference, but you can purchase the band if you are a board certified surgeon. There have even been bands for sale on Ebay. I live in Chicago and there are several doctors here that do banding, but Inamed has never heard of them, so there is no way they have been "certified". ~Mandy

Most of the people on this thread are not from Jersey. There are a few, but most of us are from other places. You can do a search for the doctors name, and see if there are any posts about him/her. ~Mandy

    Medic Alert ID or not?

I had major surgery in July and my band doc ok's NSAIDS throuh my IV. He has also approved me to take them in liquid form. (liquid motrin is all I have found). I don't like to take them, but when my knee is the size of a cantelope I have to. ~Mandy

    Medic Alert ID or not?

If you are going to be swallowing NSAIDS you will have to be awake. If that's the case then you can tell them about the issues. If NSAIDS are given in an IV they will not hurt the band. ~Mandy

No Cindy, Abi isn't better. She is still coughing her poor little head off, and she's pissed that I won't let her go outside for recess. I am having major problems with her at school right now too. Say a prayer for us both. Me for my sanity and her that she survives the weekend. She admitted tonight that she wasn't paying attention in class today and that is why she is lost with her math problems. Is it normal for 1st graders to be learning 3 number addition problems already? They also read a story in class together and then are supposed to come home and read it again. Well she looked at tonights story like it was in a forgein language. I guess she had spaced out for that today too. The psych put her an adderel (sp?) and it's not helping, so tonight he upped the dose. We start the new does tomorrow morning. On a more positive note, I like my new job. The kids are pretty good for the most part. It's not hard, the hours work with Abi's schedual and the pay is decent. I'm off to bed. I'll check in tomorrow. Oh and Jessica, I would call the doc if the sick feeling isn't gone by morning. They can give you phenegran or zofran and you will feel much better. ~Mandy

    Liquid Tylenol?

The problem with taking the kids stuff is that it gets really expensive. You take about half the bottle. If you can get the pharmacy to order it, that's your best bet. I get a good sized bottle for about $5. ~Mandy
