  1. We live 2 1/2 hours from Disney World, and go fairly often. The first trip post-op was a bit tramatic for me. For me the parks were always about the yummy treats, and amazing food. Now it's all about the experiences with my family. I see the entire Disney experience in a different light now. And for meals I just pick off my families plates. We already knew the better choices for quick meals, as my daughter does gluten free eating. Now it's cheaper, and even more fun for me, and my family enjoys spending time doing family things, like rides and shows. I am going on my very first cruise ever in Jan, and on top of the small portions I also have a severe food allergy, so I have already talked to the meals department about my dietary issues.

    Pills?

I was taking pills 24 hours after surgery. As soon as my leak test was done they gave me protonix and my other regular meds. I have taken them daily since surgery, almost 6 months post-op.

    PIERCINGS AND THE SLEEVE!

I was a body piercer for years and would recommend looking for a barbell made out of PTFE. It is an implant grade nylon, x-ray and MRI compatible. It is very soft and flexible, get one that is really long, then trim it to fit, and when you screw the ball back on it is self threading. You can use the same stuff for any piercings, it comes in rings, barbells, and even labret studs for the lower lip, it has a flat disk in the back and then the ball on the front. I was able to leave my PTFE stuff in for my surgery. Since it was flexible, and would not get in the way of the breathing tube etc. And then I didn't have to worry about trying to put it back in with an IV in my hand, and the anesthesia clouding my head. Also it will not show up for your swallow test the next day. I know Hot Topic and Spensers sells PTFE, sellers on Ebay have it and I'm sure some local tattoo shops would have it or can get it. I think you cheapest option would be ebay if you have the time to wait for it to come in. Hot Topic is expensive and has a limited selection. It is also listed as Bio-plast, or flexi-plast. It will say something to the effect of bendable, or flexible. Just DON'T get the retainers with O-rings, they WILL NOT let you wear them into surgery. There is too great of a risk of the o-ring coming off and you swallowing it or it dropping into an incision. I have had many many clients come in for me to re-pierce them because they have had to take retainers out for surgery. The pieces need to have a ball that SCREWS into place. Here is a link to what I am talking about on ebay. (not my listing) http://www.ebay.com/itm/16g-14g-3-8-1-2-5-8-3-4-7-8-1-PTFE-w-Clear-Balls-Tongue-Eye-Retainer-/271258917432?pt=Fashion_Jewelry&var=&hash=item3f284a9a38
  4. Thanks, someone thought my daughter was my sister last week at the mall. When I was heavy they always thought my mother and I were sisters, we look a lot alike and my mom looks amazing for her age. No one has said that since about 3 months post-op.

    What's your poison!

I love a good mulled cider, with a splash of vodka, or Rum. A nice spicy bloody mary always hits the spot, but my drink of choice has always been vodka cranberry with a splash of sprite, or a lime wedge. We also drink vanilla vodka with ginger ale, it tastes like cream soda. For the holidays my sisters always serve vanilla vodka with either 7up or sprite, the one they make in pomegranate. You could also use baileys/khlaua in place of creamer in coffee, or hot chocolate.

Zomg! Why didnt you guys tell me about thi?s?

I'm sorry but that looks like beggin strips for dogs. I LOVE jerky, but don't eat pork of any kind. I will eat turkey bacon on occasion, but that just looks gross. My daughter (she's 12) wants me to get dressed and make a bacon jerky run to walmart at 11:45 at night. Uh, not happening at least not tonight. I will pick some up for her Christmas stocking.
  7. I take protonix. It's a cheap script, and works like a charm.
  8. Here are 2 before, and 2 recent pics of me. I don't think I look a ton older, but I do show my age a little more now. I'm 35. I was 32 in the pirate picture, and the one with the Bob Marley statue was taken 11 months pre-op.

    Popcorn!

We are a HIGE movie family. And we always get popcorn and a drink at the theater. Now I ask for a child's popcorn cup to go with my family's large popcorn. And that is all I have. I also portion mine out before all the butter gets added. I do salt mine, but skip the butter/oil chemical that they have out at the theater. Also when my family wants popcorn at home, we use the glass bowl, with kernnels in the microwave, with a glass plate on top, so no oil, fat or chemicals there either. My daughter will put some melted real butter on it after I get my small bowl out. I have discovered that I really like the Mexican seasoning that has chili and lime flavor, it is in the fruit section at the store, I also really like it on melons, and it's even good on chicken. But I figure the fiber and low cal snack is just as good as any other choice I could make for a treat. My doctor says that I don't need to freak out over every calorie that I injest. I only eat when hungry, and make sensible choices, I'm down 65 pounds since May. And I'm only 5-10 pounds from goal. Since I had my lapband (I had a prolapsed stomach so was revised) I have lost 103 pounds. So what I am doing works for me. I did this surgery to be healthy, and lose weight, not to deny myself everything I enjoy for the rest of my life.
  11. If you aren't allowed to shave, you can still use Nair, or wax right?

    Here's a crazy question...

I'm not sure they can use the mouth, since there is an intubation tube in there right?

What do you watch on Netflix?

I didn't read all the other replies, but here are my suggestions. Bones it's about an FBI agent (he's adorbes!!) and a forensic anthropologist and they solve odd murders, it's a great show, and the leading lady is the sister of Zoe Dashenel's sister. (I know I spelled that wrong) Once Upon a Time it's about how the lives of fairy tale characters and real people are parallel. My daughter LOVES it. My Name is Earl funny, crude style humor. Raising Hope really funny. About a teen boy that gets a female killer pregnant, and after giving birth she is executed so he and his family is raising her. The grandmother is the blonde from Goonies. And Cloris Leachman is mawmaw and she is hysterical. The finder a man in Florida that has an off knack for finding lost items. Funny, mystery solving, and overall cute show. One of the leads is Michael Clark Duncan (from Green Mile) The Glades she is a nurse, and he is a cop living in Florida and they work together to solve crimes. Funny, and a really good show. We are waiting for the next season to be uploaded. Burn Notice a show about a burned spy that is trying to clear his name. In the mean time he works odd jobs helping people and using his spy connections along the way.

    Here's a crazy question...

My lapband and stomach were both removed through the same incision, it was the same place that was opened to remove my port. My largest incision was only about 3 inches across, and was glued. No stitches anywhere on the outside. I did have internal dissolvable sutures, I know this because I had several inch long pieces surface and I had to pull them out. For some reason they didn't dissolve, only broke down at the pressure point. I had to remove the knot and the plastic looking sting that was attached.

    Breakfast ham and egg cups!

I make these with turkey ham, and I add green peppers and onions to my egg mixture. And yes, they freeze and reheat very well.

Going to florida in two months

string cheese, imitation crab sticks, yogurt, yogurt smoothies (in the frozen section at the grocery store), lunch meat, chicken salad or tuna salad in small portions (I use dollar store mini containers), lots of water with crystal light or mio. sugar free pudding or jello.
  19. So while at the grocery store over the weekend I found and purchased a new product. It is Luzianne "pour-n-stir". It looks like a little foil bottle, and has about 2oz of liquid inside of it. The trial size was only $1.00 and it says just to mix it with a gallon of cold Water. It has zero calories, and also comes in unsweet. I made it tonight, since we ran out of tea half way through dinner. It was super good. No weird after taste at all. Only odd thing was when I squeezed the contents into my gallon bottle, I found that it had a few tea leaves in it, but after giving it a good shake, it was fine. I will be buying it again. It is sweetened with Sucralose and acesulfame potassium. It also comes in boxes of 6 that each make packet makes 1/2 gallon. Those were $3.98 a box at Wal-Mart. Now the weird part, it's not on their website, and I can't find ANY mention of this product online anywhere. But I will be buying it again.
  20. pumpkin iced coffee from Dunkin Donuts. Extra cream and real sugar, but like you only once a week.

    How much yogurt?

A "single serve" container made 3 servings for me the first week I was able to have yogurt. I also bought a popsicle mold and made frozen yogurt pops. I made 4 pops out of one of those containers. I also made sugar pudding free pops, they were amazing.

Did they test for H Pylori? I know that can cause burning.

    Hot after i eat?

Dumping is when something you eat causes a sudden drop in sugar level. I'm told the food "dumps" from the stomach too fast. It can range from mild discomfort to having to lay down to prevent passing out. Some people have digestive symptoms, headaches, stomachache, sweating, vomiting, cold chills, the shakes, and it can cause passing out. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gastric_dumping_syndrome

    Hot after i eat?

I have the same thing. And lately it's been fairly often. Today at lunch we went to a local bbq place, and I ordered smoked chicken. This place smokes all of their meats, and doesn't put any sauce on anything. So I know it wasn't sugar causing dumping. And I wasn't eating fast at all. I've had chicken without issues before, from this same place. I was suddenly HOT, to the point of sweating. And I guess my face was red, as my family inquired if I was ok. I will be asking my surgeon about this at my appointment next week.
