Not a happy camper on the liquid diet!
piercedqt78 replied to daniela531's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I also struggled with the 10 day pre-op diet. I was allowed cottage cheese and fat free yogurt. (I don't care for either) I just did a huge amount of sugar free popsicles and Propel fitness Water. I also did the egg drop Soup (I ordered it without eggs) and I bought regular chicken noodle soup and strained the stuff out and ate the broth. It has some fat but not much and the warmth actually makes you feel full. If you have broth use a bowl and a spoon, it tricks the body into believing you are eating. Like others have said always be drinking something, even water with a squeeze of lemon. It really does help. Also try blending the Protein shake with some ice and sugar free flavorings. (look for davinci or torani brands) They are usually found in coffee shops or gourmet sections at the grocery store. Also gloria jeans at the malls sells their own brand. They really do help cover that flavor, also try blending with ice and drinking like a milk shake, the coldness also hides the bad taste. I got into keeping a journal and it has really helped. I journal at www.livejournal.com There is an entire lapband group there. Best of luck to you, it really is all worth it in the long run. ~Mandy P.S. for the post-op diet, it took me 5 days before I even wanted broth, the internal swelling kept me from being hungry. I am told that this is pretty normal, I just wasnt hungry. ~M -

When I make baked chicken for my family, I have a small amount of broth for myself. I dip each bite into the broth before putting in my mouth. The extra moisture makes it easier to chew and I have no problems with getting it to go and stay down. Also the broth adds some extra flavor. ~Mandy

I can feel mine too, if I hold my arms above my head you can see an outline of mine. I am only 5 weeks out and it is already visable. I was hoping for a low profile port, but guess I got a regular one. ~Mandy

There is a seller on Ebay named clicktags.com, he has really nice laser ingraved medical id plates, they come with a really cheap chain but I added mine to the avon medical id set. I paid $9.00 for 2 and that included shipping. The plates are really nice and I couldnt be happier with them. I got 2 plates ingraved for less than just the ingraving would have cost me at one of those places in the mall. ~Mandy

Ok, late lunch or early dinner (3:30 or 4ish) in the loop on the 17th or 18th? That way we avoid the crowds and can have the place mostly to ourselves. I am up for just about anything, I just have to avoid mushrooms (allergy). I am not familiar with the loop area but have a GPS system and can find just about any place. Anyone have a opinion to either of these places? Gourmand Cafe-(healthy, affordable options) or Russian Tea Time (healthy options) ? If not anyone have any other suggestions? I am open to try new things. ~Mandy

Ok, so the 17th or 18th? Is that ok with everyone else? I am open for just about anywhere. Let me know what is good, maybe some of us southsiders can carpool? I drive a smallish station wagon and will gladly drive. ~Mandy

Was the hypnosis done by a doctor? That should count as medically supervised weightloss if it was, what about the other diets? Did you see a doctor? I would also ask what they consider medically supervised. How long ago are they willing to consider 3 years, 5 years? Do the 12 months have to be consecutive? Or can they be accumulative (sp?)? I know that I could go back 2 years, and had to find 6 months of combined medically supervised weightloss. Does it have to be a nutritionist or doctor? Can it be monthly nurse weigh ins and BP checks? These are the things you need to find out. My doctor gave me a low cholestrol low fat diet and exercise plan out of a book. I then checked in with the nurse once a month to be weighed and have my blood pressure checked. That counted. Best of luck, I know it is possible to fight and win, I did. ~Mandy

If you could go back in time and give yourself advice after the op, what would it be?

Not so much post-op but pre hospital trip, I would have packed a bag, I had to spend the night. I also would have told myself that it would be better everyday. Even though I read it here, it just didn't sink in until I was actually getting better each day. ~Mandy -

If you have a Marshall's or TJ Maxx near you they also have them for $4.99 a bottle. I have several of the seasonal flavors that I can only get there. My fave is Chai Tea it is a great way to perk up a vanilla protein shake. ~Mandy -

The one at the surgeons office is the same 90 pound woman that works everywhere else, I think they are all the same person just moving really fast from one office to the next. :bandit When I went in for the pre-op visit we talked about protien shakes and she said she was training for a marathon, great for her . They act like they have never struggled with food or their weight, I guess that is why they are so thin, they just don't get the "food issues" that most MO people have. ~Mandy
