Does removing the drain = pain?
SuperFab replied to thall04's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Have you ever been in a car and went over a hill too fast and got that flip flop feeling in your tummy? Or the drop in a roller coaster feeling? That's what it felt like when the pulled my drain. Not painful just weird. -
What am i doing wrong?

Also keep in mind that you're eating potatoes, which are carbs. Carbs make me feel hungrier. I'm not allowed potatoes until I reach my goal weight. -
I don't have that problem now but I know lots of people drink smooth move tea or mix miralax into liquid and drink it.

I'd almost rather do ANYTHING than have another IV. The thought literally makes me feel like I'm gonna faint. So, I've figured out that my tiny tummy will hold 3 ounces of RTD shake. Not a drop more. Same with cream soups, yogurt or pudding. I just have to premeasure everything. Which is fine. It can hold more if it's like propel or a clear liquid. So I am going to try to stay hydrated above all else. The first 2 weeks my doc stresses hydration above all else so that's what I'm gonna focus on. I honestly don't think my tummy is ready to process a lot more than that yet. I have a funky metallic taste in my mouth that I thought might be ketosis, but I doubt it since I'm putting milk in my cream soups. My tastes have already changed. Sweet stuff gags me. It's way too sweet. I love plain water, now it hurts. I'm actually not disappointed in my results. I'm glad I can only hold such a small amount right now and that my tastes have changed. The only thing that scares me is my fluid intake. I actually think I'm going to focus each morning on my fluids and start my day that way until I get into a routine. I know I seem to complain a lot and I'm sorry it seems that way. I'm just more or less trying to update on where I'm at. Lol Even though I am struggling in certain areas I'd do this all over again. In an instant. I'm just trying to figure out my groove

It's very hard for me to be positive and upbeat. I haven't really been getting my fluids or protein in so I'm worried about what my two week update will entail. Just know that I'm keeping you in my thoughts and here if you wanna talk. April

I drank the new direction hot cocoa and didn't have an issue. I got the water hot as I could from the tap and then added the cocoa mix. I used a mini whisk to stir it up really well. I also had their broccoli cheddar protein soup that u add boiling water to and had no issues.

Yeah. I'm getting water. Today I drank 2 ounces every 5 minutes to make sure I don't get dehydrated. Plain water makes me literally nauseated. I have to mix it with something. It's so weird, you hear about other people's experiences and think you're prepared, and maybe most people are, but I wasn't. I wasn't prepared for the extreme amount of pain I'd wake up in, nor was I prepared for how nauseated I'd be. All of the things that were ok before surgery make me gag now. This is definitely a learning experience and if anyone dares tell me I took the easy way out I'll knock em flat on their ass.

I'm 9 days out and am barely getting any protein. It makes me feel like I'm gonna barf if I try and mix it in anything. The shakes gag me.

I'm opposite. I'm sleeping a lot. I think it's from so few calories. I have no energy.
-
It's not "required" by all doctors. Mine prefers you to wear one for two weeks Bc it makes coughing, sneezing, vomiting, getting up and down and side sleeping less painful. Keeps everything nice and tight. Without it I felt like all of my guts were gonna spill out into the floor. Lol
-
Neither did I. I couldn't. Not a wink. Then I had a 3 hr drive to the hospital.
-
My insurance wouldn't cover the pain meds in liquid form. Nice, huh? Lol I was just getting concerned Bc I'm getting like 150-200 calories a day. As for sleeping, I'm a side sleeper and that deep incision burns sometimes and pulls so it wakes me up.

I had the exact thing from my binder.

I find protein powders intolerable. I barf them up. It doesn't matter what I add it to, I get very ill. And I can barely tolerate protein drinks. I can handle 3 ounces of the RTD premier chocolate. The vanilla makes me barf. I just feel like if it weren't for cream of chicken soup I'd starve. Any ideas??

Thanks, it's just frustrating. I know I just have to take it day by day.

Softly scrambled eggs are on my puréed list.

I'm seriously tired. Absolutely no energy. I can get maybe 2 ounces of shake or yogurt in. Or 3 ounces cream soup. I'm pushing n pushing my water but it's never enough. I'm not trying to be a whiner but I'm pretty miserable.

What sort of leak tests do you perform? Will I have a drain? Will I have a private room? Will I have an abdominal binder? What will I be given for pain medicine? What is the average # of nights in the hospital? -
What's this 'leak test' like?

My surgeon checks during surgery and then does the blue ice test. No blue dye in my drain so I was good to go -

Bariatric Fusion chews. All-in-one vitamins -
They pulled my drain n didn't stitch me up. It closed on its own. Now, the scar where they took my stomach out catches and hurts Bc they perform an internal stitch deep in the muscle tissue. That one still gets me.

Well, when the head and founder of this entire forum says to drop it, you might wanna drop it.

3 weeks post op tomorrow... I can eat a good amount. Is this normal?

This thread is ridiculous. -
It gets better day by day

I know my shakes are 11oz and sip on it til I'm too full. Then refrigerate it for a bit. Pull it out n sip more. Once it's all gone I log a complete shake. I drink til I'm full, though. However, I'm gonna have to start measuring 3oz portions of my soups Bc I get too full and it hurts if I don't.
