  1. Keep us informed. Sending good thoughts your way. April
  2. I usually get really full once I have my shake, but they give me diarrhea so I end up drinking tons of water so I don't get dehydrated. I have an anxiety disorder and bipolar disorder and my medications really help. You may need help controlling your anxiety with medication. Even if it's only temporary. I have faith in you that you can do this!! Good luck!!
  3. I sure am hoping so. I'll let you know as soon as I find out.
  4. I don't get my date until after my appointment Friday. I have been having to have a shake each morning and eat lean and green. I totally failed yesterday. Thanksgiving dinner I stuffed myself. Plus I had leftovers today. Ugh. Back to my diet tomorrow. I've had to do this diet 3 months. I try and stick with it the best I can but have probably had too many food funerals because I've only lost 11 pounds.
  5. I have those thoughts all the time. But I have a higher chance dying if I don't get the surgery. I have severe sleep apnea, high blood pressure and spinal stenosis that makes it painful to get around. I'm scheduled for my last nutrition appointment Friday and I'm already scared. But I'm gonna do what I have to. I wanna be around longer than a few more years. This is my chance.

Risks of Side Effects from VSG

I'm choosing the sleeve because I figured if anything were to happen I could always revise to the bypass. If I were to go to the bypass that would be it. No revising. And before you jump on me and say that I could always "revise to the sleeve", that is VERY RARE.
  7. Wouldn't you still have the hunger hormone?

    Self-Paying

Lol I meant "me too" I'm thankful. I'm not going to the same surgery center, but that's a freaking great idea! I also have a lot of nut info that I could copy. Awesome

    Self-Paying

Me too!!! My sister had no hoops and knows so little about everything. I have tried to tell her the importance of protein first, following her surgeons food progression from liquids, etc. it sucks Bc I can't be policing her. I'm actually thankful for all I've learned so far.

    Self-Paying

I'm going to a Center of Excellence and there my surgeon requires the same hoops. 3 nut appointments, sleep study, at least one support group meeting, seminar, psych clearance, and a stress test. They just don't want any room for error. The way they see it, if you're educated by them regarding the procedure, you won't deviate from their plan and will have better success. That looks better on them and their complication rate. So I'd say each surgeon has his/her own criteria for surgery. Good luck on your journey, April.
  11. I got the call stating I have severe sleep apnea. I'm going in to get fitted the 6th. I'm thankful my insurance covers the cost but leery of wearing it, as I felt claustrophobic a couple of times during my sleep study and tore it off my face.

All The Mean People Can Suck It!

I thought she looked great as well.
  13. I'm sort of leery because my boyfriend is a chef. Yeah.... I know.
  14. Ditto on all the above including the 3 months. Mine is closer to Atkins but with a protein shake for breakfast.

    Severe Sleep Apnea

Awesome!! I'll definitely be on the hunt. Thank you!!
  16. Well, my surgeon's office called and said that they received my sleep report. I was told I had severe sleep apnea. I guess I'm not too bright because I thought either you had it, or you didn't. I didn't realize there were levels of severity. I guess it makes sense, depending on how many times you stop breathing at night. I go and get my CPAP December 6, after my final pre-op appointment. I'm a little wary of trying to sleep with that on my face, as it was really weird and not too comfortable. However, it would be nice to use it and finally feel rested for once.

    Is It Too Pushy?

Yeah, but she never said the surgeon agreed.

    Remember This...

Wow, I hadn't even been told memory loss was a possibility.

    Severe Sleep Apnea

I'm gonna have to look into that because I'm a side sleeper. I have spinal stenosis and it's the least painful position.

    Severe Sleep Apnea

I have a deviated septum and breathe through my mouth, so I have to use a full face mask. My daughter said she looks forward to having "Bane" off Batman for a mom. Lol
  21. Umm... You don't have to be "crazy" to see a psych or therapist. I found that your statement rubbed me wrong. People see them for numerous reasons and I don't think that people who have bipolar disorder, PTSD, food addiction, drug or alcohol addiction, etc are crazy. The psych evaluation is mainly to see if you have unrealistic expectations after surgery. To see if you think weightloss surgery is a "fix-all" in your life. To make certain you are knowledgable about the surgery, etc.

    Is It Too Pushy?

My dr office has its own requirements. Even if I was self-pay, if I wanted to use them I'd still have the same requirements.

    Surgery Day Tomorrow!

Glad to hear you're doing better and are on the other side. My sister had her surgery in Denison, tx and the same thing happened to her. She got into recovery at around noon and finally got a room after 8pm!!! She was so frustrated and upset, but I can honestly say that the staff was amazing the entire time. Hang in there and keep up that walkin n sippin. April
  24. I had a stress test. It was the treadmill type. I think I lasted like 3 minutes before I was too out of breath and told them to stop. That is what they told me to do; tell them to stop when I'm too exhausted to go on. They want your heart rate to be at a certain rate for a couple of minutes to test how your heart responds to exercise. Even if you "do poorly" that can be one more reason to have the surgery. I'm fat. I get winded after a few minutes of exercise to the point I feel like I'm gonna pass out. This is something the surgery may possibly help me with.
  25. Mine was just a one-on-one talk. She had mailed me. Medical info type questionnaire previously and I forgot it, luckily I was early and filled one out. We sat and talked. That's it. She asked about my bipolar disorder, life, dealing with stresses. She mainly wanted to hear what I thought I'd get out of surgery. She asked about my expectations and then told me to have my regular psych fax her a simple letter stating my treatment plan for therapy after I'm sleeved. I don't think she did that with everyone, but only those already in therapy. Then she told me I was a great candidate.
