my doctor and surgeon both told me it was "probably" due to a hernia, but my surgeon hasn't done my EGD. Like you, I'm hoping a hernia repair will take care of it. Since taking protonix twice a day I haven't had any issues. I've been on it for an entire year so far. It would be great to be off of it. Or even go down to once daily. If I skip a day, the following night I'll be choking on acid. It's awful.

thats only if it's acid reflux.

your tummy doesn't work like it did preop. I'd try it

I never got the munchies. It did help the pain from my spinal injury, though. I'd smoke, then I'd go to bed. Maybe had I smoked more often I wouldn't have gained so much.....

What would you do if it were your child? If you've exhausted every other method known? Just continue to let your child gain to such excess he/she is literally going to die from comorbidities? Become positively sedentary because he/she weighs too much to be mobile? I'd try and get my kid the surgery. I know I'm the only one, but it's what I'd do if it could save her life.... And if it didn't work long term? Redo the surgery if need be? Then what? I don't know, but at least I tried all of my options.

Lots of people on here need to change antacid meds or take them twice Per day. I have GERD and nothing worked for me except protonix, which I take twice daily and am hoping works just as well after my surgery. April

Well, if you're an alcoholic I don't think it's advocated. As it could lead you down a very slippery slope. -

Going to a wine tasting is an entire other spectrum than an ALCOHOLIC swishing alcohol and spitting. -

They aren't alcoholics. If you're going to reply, reply to what I said. Not to wine tasting. -

I felt the need to post because this thread you started is crazy sauce! Maybe when you have a degree in nutrition, specializing in bariatric patients, THEN you can post a "HOW TO" guide. -

I guess your next post will be for alcoholics just to swish the liquor around in their mouths then spit it out. WTF man??? -

My requirements were submitted today. Just waiting on that call from my bariatric center. Sort of nervous and excited. -
I haven't even had my surgery yet and I have to take protonix (others didn't work for me) twice daily for GERD.

Can someone tell me what dumping is?
SuperFab replied to Kiap82's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have had it since my gall bladder was removed in 08. It's like I literally get a little light headed and start sweating. Then there is a painful churning in my stomach and I have to go RIGHT THEN. While I'm actually going to the restroom my sweating and churning continue, as does my pain. For me it can even happen in the middle of a meal. Sometimes it will take several trips to the restroom until only orange or yellow acidic bile is coming out due to no gall bladder. Heavy creamy foods like Alfredo sauce, acidic foods like tomato based marinara, any fried foods, lettuce... My Protein shakes ... Really too many foods to name. This has been such a problem and my surgeon said if I follow the rules with my sleeve and eat dense Proteins first, maybe it will slow down or stop it. -
Like a brick shithouse... I laughed so damn hard!!!

That waiting list is crazy!! People will just develop more obesity-related illnesses during that time.

Protein Shake Pre Op Diet
SuperFab replied to Photo925's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Instead of fundiplication, they use mesh to tighten up the opening of where the diaphragm is, after pulling your stomach back. Where your stomach has prolapsed through. Then perform the sleeve during the same operation. Maybe that isn't common practice where you live, but it is in the US. -

Protein Shake Pre Op Diet
SuperFab replied to Photo925's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There are many, many people that have a hiatal hernia repaired at the same time as they get their sleeve operation. It's fairly common. -
Have you already had any appointments like your nut appointments or psych appointments? Find a bariatric center that does accept your insurance and explain the situation.

Does anyone regret this surgery?
SuperFab replied to Wenniegirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I read all of the regrets. The "what I wish I'd known". The graduation of diet. I want to be as informed as I can before my surgery in February.
