Gotta go in there with a positive mindset. That's what is gonna get you through it. Be sure and talk to your anesthesiologist about your fears. Good luck tomorrow, I know you'll do great!!

Thank you!! I actually almost went to Mexico for my surgery and then found out that my insurance would cover my surgery. Lots of knowledgable doctors there who have actually been doing the sleeve longer than most US doctors.

4 Things I Wish I Would've Known Pre Op

Some surgeons do not allow fruits and fruit juices.

Anyone here have GERD prior to sleeve? And/or sensitive gag reflex?
SuperFab replied to tiredtwinmommy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have GERD and am preop. My surgeon said it shouldn't be an issue as long as I stay on my meds. I take protonix twice daily and it is controlled with no issues. I have been told the breathing tube is removed before we wake up just like with other surgeries that they use general anesthesia for. April -
Maybe it's an "Oklahoma" thing!!! Jk I'm an okie and my dr and nut are the same. April

She just told me a list of "no-no's" for the first six months and said in my final meeting with the PA well go over my pre and post op diets. At this point she said "our diets may be different than what your sister's was ( she knows my sis had the surgery, but used a different surgeon) for instance, we don't allow any potatoes or fruit during the first six months. Not even potato Soup or mashed potatoes on any stage". I honestly didn't think to ask because I figured on this next appt to finalize everything it would be explained in greater detail. In all honesty, I think it's crazy. Hopefully I misunderstood and she said "fruit juices", but I'm fairly certain she said fruits. If this is the case, I'll practically be in ketosis the entire six months if Protein and veggies (except corn, peas, carrots and potatoes) are all I'll be eating. April

I'll admit, giving up fruits for six months after surgery will be hard. I'm allergic to bananas and kiwi, but other than that, there isn't a fruit I don't love. April

They're hard to find but crystal lite has a few flavors sweetened with stevia called crystal lite pure. April

Crazy to read this, I haven't even been sleeved yet but my nut has already told me that once sleeved I won't be allowed fruit for six months Bc of the sugar content. My entire diet seems so much more strict than everyone else's (no mashed potatoes or potato soup, cream of wheat, etc after surgery). I'm definitely getting my fill of fruits now, preop. Lol
-
I misread. I'd be choking on ACID.
-
I'm not even sleeved yet but I'd do that no matter how late I ate. It is a symptom of GERD, which I suffer from. I take protonix twice daily for it.

When you're drinking a lot of water you're actually flushing your body and need to replenish the potassium and magnesium.

Tell me about upper GI
SuperFab replied to Superfluous's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is true. Upper GI is done totally differently than an endoscopy/ EGD -
Definitely food for thought.

Decision Made where do I start?
SuperFab replied to BetterNai88's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went through my bariatric center and they did everything for me. They requested the letter from my PCP and set up every single appointment. All I had to do was show up to them.
