Sometimes I feel as if feb 18 is so far away that something is gonna prevent it from actually happening. Other times it's right there in my face coming up so fast I'm trying to prepare for it. April

February/March 2014 sleevers
SuperFab replied to rebeccasams's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had a 3 month diet and lost only 11 pounds. To be honest, I had more food funerals than I should have. April -
K, so I just got my surgery date today, February 18, and I feel so silly because right now the thought of the surgery doesn't freak me out. My sister, numerous friends, etc have had it. But the thought of getting an IV makes me dizzy. I have to force myself not to think of it. I tend to faint. I've had at least 10 for various reasons (surgeries and illnesses) and I think I've only stayed awake for 2. I know, I know. I'm a dork.

Thanks!! Yeah. It will be a major cause of anxiety and I'm gonna ask them to give me a chill pill. Lol

Question about co-morbidities?
SuperFab replied to webhopper's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Yay!!! So very happy for you!!! -
So, I'm guessing not everyone has an endoscopy/ EGD before their surgery? I was told on feb 3 I'll have my final consult and have a 2 hr class, an EKG, a chest X-ray and labs. Then I'll start my 2 week preop the following day with surgery on the 18th. My PCP and surgeon both think I may have a hiatal hernia, but with no upper GI or endoscopy how will my surgeon be certain? I feel dumb right now. Maybe my surgeon waits til she's got me under and once she proceeds with surgery, she just fixes it if there is one? April

Question about co-morbidities?
SuperFab replied to webhopper's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'd straight up contact my insurance and ask them. All policies are different. I wish I knew more about what all they require but I know I got all of my questions answered and even when I couldn't understand what they meant I just told them that I didn't understand. Asked if they could explain it to me and they did. -
Question about co-morbidities?

Actually SOME insurance policies will take into consideration joint and bone issues. Especially with a letter from your PCP supporting the claim stating that WLS should help take pressure off those areas, etc. unsure about asthma. -
See, that's me. I'm the one who doesn't normally need a jacket when everyone else does because I'm always so hot. The last few days are the exception with this "polar vortex" across the country. But I'm hoping I cool down some. When I am sweaty or too hot I just feel gross and I don't want to feel that way about myself. Nobody does. I'm actually looking forward to finding my new "normal".

Dang! And people say once you start dropping weight you start to get really cold all the time. Not so bad here in Oklahoma, but you're gonna be a Popsicle

I'm packing by bags!!!

True, but your records aren't property of the surgeon. You can request those at any time. The surgeon is being paid for all the services he/she provides.

Ugh, I know it can be nerve-wracking. That waiting game. And it's so difficult to wait it out. Try and stay positive, I know it's hard when you're playing the waiting game, but try your best. Keep me updated, I'm pulling for ya

I'm not getting the bypass, I'm getting VSG, but I have Medicare and I'm also bipolar along with generalized anxiety disorder. During my psych eval I just talked to the psych sort of like I would a friend. She wanted to just make sure that I'd been stable for at least a year. Also, since I'd been seeing my own psych who prescribes my meds, etc., she had me fax a letter asking less than 10 questions. She wanted short, complete answers to questions like what my diagnosis is, if I'm considered stable, etc. then my regular psych faxed it to her. Only thing is that it was my actual surgeon's office that required that letter. Not Medicare. Good luck with your surgery!! April

Lots of luck to you, too!!! Looks like I'm in the wrong state. Lol

Me too!! I have severe spinal stenosis and I'm so ready to take some of this pressure off my spine and hips. I've been on cloud 9 and smiling all the time since I just found out. I have to try really hard not to think about the IV, though. To me, that's the scary part. I know, weird. But I was told they can numb it. Maybe I won't pass smooth out this time. Lol Good luck! I know everything will go great!! April

I've had severe GERD for years and my dr tried things like Pepcid and Prilosec, mainly because they are the less expensive brands. After trying them, and still no relief she put me on protonix twice daily. When I get my monthly statement of how much protonix would've cost me out of pocket had I not had insurance, it's around $235 a month.
-
Awesome!!! Good luck!! Where are you having yours at?
-
Thanks!!! I'm pretty excited. All except the "getting an IV" part. Lol
