What does a fill feel like??? (duplicate threads combined)
WOWOX7 replied to Lily76's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hello, I had my first fill on Monday. It really was not bad at all. I was laid down on the table, the dr came in. He asked me a few questions about eating, how I was doing. He then raised up my top a little, and my slacks down a little, and felt for my port. He cleaned the area, told me there was going to be a stick. and like Phowell - I did not really feel the stick. I did feel the fluid go around. I think it was cooler than my body temp. kind of a weird feeling. He put a bandage on it. asked if I had questions, answered them. I sat up, they gave me water to drink. He advised me to eat soft foods for a few days. So that is what I have done. Dont feel alot of restriction yet. He put 3.5 in my 10cc band. no problems as of yet. Dont stress...... Lois -
Hey all, I too have been seeing slower weight loss since banding. I have searched LBT, and talked to my nurse. I do not have any restriction to speak of, I just have not been eating much and really watching what I eat. What I have found, is that after banding there will not be much restriction and there is not usually big weight losses during this time. Some people even gain. I felt so much better knowing this. My nurse was impressed that I have done as well as I have before my first fill. These first 6-6 weeks are for healing, then after first fill you really lose. I was feeling like a failure again until I really dug and asked my nurse. Hope this helps, I sure wish I had known this a few weeks ago.

Hi, I had my lap band on Jan 3rd, and I did not have a catheter. I was first patient at 7:30 and was home by 3:30 that day. I am not sure they do catheters for this procedure.

Girls, You will do wonderful. Relax tonight and look through the before and after thread. I did, made me so excited. Good luck and let us know you are doing. Lois

Jim, Like Chrisann, I used the Gas X strips and they did help. I think getting up and walking and moving about helped the most. I have been sleeping in the recliner since surg "jan3", it is just to uncomfortable to get out of the bed. Still having port side pain, but that is about all. I took two weeks off work. I work at a hospital and do alot of patient moving. so I dont go back until the 20th of Jan. I am getting bored already. Take care. Lois

Congrats on being banded. First I would check with your Dr on post op diet. I started sipping on my protein drinks the second day. I kept in in the fridge and everytime I walked by I took a sip. I also had the Kelloggs K2o protein water, and drank that also. good luck. Lois

Wendy, I found that if I drank the protein drinks to fast I got nauseous and got diarrehea. I left mine in the fridge and every time I passed the fridge I took a drink. I still got in all my protein, I just spaced it out. It really helped me.

So what happened at *your* seminar?
WOWOX7 replied to mommakatx2's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Like all the others here, it was very informative. They passed around a band, some pictures. They had past patients that talked, told of their experience. The Dr came in, had a slide show and opened the floor to questions. They handed out some lititure to take home also. I was so glad I went and took my Boyfriend, he had questions and it actually got him "on Board" to the band.I think alot of Drs require you attend at least one of the seminars. Maybe more. -
Also From St. Joseph, Mr Malley of overland pk kansas he and his staff are wonderful. Malley Surgical - Home

NY Knockouts-- Pre-op Poll
WOWOX7 replied to CallMeJim's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
srbanker, I actually had a lean meal during my two week liquid diet. it would have been my 4th liquid day. My BF had a fish fry with his family, I had a piece of the fish, ham and some veggies. I went right back onto the liquid diet and did not stray after that and still lost. I will say that it made it harder to get back onto the liquid the second time. BUT I DID IT. Best of luck to you. Jim, I had a two week liquid diet. The first few days were the worst, then you just get used to it and DO IT. not fun, but will be worth the end result. Surgery went so well for me, I would not have changed a thing. Lois -
gingerbug, Had surgery yesterday and doing very well. Minimal abd pain. Gas is getting better as time goes by. I am just so glad to be able to get back to protein drinks and sherbert. glad you are doing well also. Lois

ovahkummer Hello, I will be banded Jan 3rd also. I have been on a two week liquid diet. Mostly protein drinks- 3or 4 a day, jello, broth, flavored water, sherbert and popsickles. Then on Wens I am clear liquid "no protein drinks". and of course nothing after midnight before surgery. I have to be there at 6am and I am the first band of the day! I am being done at a surgery center, so i will be coming home that afternoon. I have checked off my list and have everything ready. All I have left is to make sure laundry is done, stop by the store and get some more broth. Best of luck to you. let me know how you are doing... Other Jan 3rd Banders? would love to hear from you also. Lois

Hello, It seems every Doctor is different on pre-op diets. My Doctor has me on a two week liquid diet. Mainly this is to shrink the liver to make the procedure easier and safer. For my two weeks, I can have Protein shakes, jello, chick and beef broth, sherbert, sugar free pop sickles. I am on my 6th day and doing ok so far. Find out what your doctor recomends. good luck in your search.

Januray 08 Banders - Here we go. My surgery is Jan 3rd and I start my pre op liquid diet on Thurs. This is my second surgery date, and second stint with the two week liquid diet. My first surgery was canceled Aug 29th, the day before surg. I am here to tell you, that if I can do the two week liquid diet twice anyone can do it. I am looking forward to a exciting, lighter New Year. I am so excited to be able to follow everyones progress. I know we all will do great. We just have to stick together and remember we have a new " TOOL" to help us achieve our healthy goals. Good luck to all. Lois :clap2:
