How much did your surgery cost?

Cedars-Sinai? My hosp bill for 1 night was over $98k. My share was $1600 after insurance. I did like the private room tho. Looks like it included anesthesia too, which is good. Hi, it was Alta Bates in Oakland. Yes, thankfully that total did include anesthesia! Wow that is a handful of money! You were at Cedars Sinai?

    Recovery time

I had my surgery Jan 7th, the first two weeks were hardest for me. I have a 16 year old, so I had to cook for him and get him to and from. I Didn't complain it got me up and moving. I had a few issues during that recovery time, but I was back working full time on Jan 28th. I am definitely glad I took the time I needed and didn't rush it. Aside from not being able to eat much, it doesn't feel like I have been sleeved. I am now 6 weeks out.

How much did your surgery cost?

Are you ready for my surgery cost? Wait for it.....Wait for it.....$94,197.85!! I paid (out of pocket) $250.....i only stayed 2 nights. That's some hotel!!! Gotta love California. Apparently not only is living here more expensive, so is surgery! WTF!!!!! And the only goodie bag I got when I left was gauze, tape and plastic cups to measure my food! Whatever! I hope my doctor enjoyed his vacation!

    Incision Sites

Hi, four of mine are healing great, but there's that one scar that the drain came out of that is the last woman standing. I swear that thing is going to be around forever. I do apply ointment to my incisions (I don't want to see the scars), but that last one is fighting me every bit of the way!!!

    Nausea

I was given an anti-nausea pill. Maybe your Dr. Can call in a prescription for you. I also had my labs done (may be too soon for you) at week 3, and my B1 & B12 were really low. It may or may not be what's causing your nausea, but it may be worth a try. It helped me. The anti-nausea pills didn't. The first 3 weeks were the roughest for me. I hope you feel better soon. Just make sure you're drinking Water. Even if that is the only thing you can get down for now. .

    Catheter for surgery?

Hi! My Dr. had a catheter put in during surgery, and it was removed the following day. They wanted to make sure I was alert and able to make it to the bathroom on my own. It didn't hurt coming out (I was knocked out when they put it in haha).

    Help please!

I never had issues with constipation until I had this surgery. It was so bad I had to resort to labor breathing to pass it, and it HURT like HELL!!! I took Milk of Magnesium and Optifiber (from Costco), but it didn't make passing it any easier. So from now on I take fiber with my shakes to keep regular. I never want to go through that again. I hope you are able to pass it soon. I've felt your pain! I've read from a few people on here they had to go to the doctor to "assist" with the passing.

    I have a few questions

Hi! I was sleeved on Jan 7th. It seems like you are on track, 15 lbs so far is great. Everyone looses at different paces. The sweets are going to slow your weight loss. Believe me I know what you mean about the sweet tooth. That's me! I love chocolate!!! Is your coffee caffeinated? I was told no coffee. I know every doctor is different with the food phases, but are you ok'd for Protein bars at 3 weeks? Lucky you that you can tolerate them. I was JUST able to start to eat them, and I have to eat them really slow lol. If you want to add to your weight loss, exercise will definitely help (if you haven't already). My doctor told me no smoking with the sleeve....ever. I'm not sure how many folks here in the forum went back to smoking after surgery. I have read that people have drank after getting the sleeve (not recommended), but you have to be careful. You'll get drunk very easily.

    Stomach sleeper

Hi, I am I stomach sleeper too. I was able to sleep on my stomach after three weeks, although there was a little pain. I would prop pillows in front and behind me, but always ended up on my stomach. I am almost 6 weeks out and can sleep on my stomach with no pain at all. I couldn't wait for that time to come (which was at about 5 weeks). Congrats on your surgery!!

    Hair loss

Hi. I am almost 6 weeks out. I haven't had any hair lost "yet", but I am just waiting. If you search hair loss on the above search there are tons of forums about people loosing their hair at different stages and for different lengths of times. For quite a few people it does happen.

No Bread, Pasta, Rice for 6 mos? Really?

Lucky you. I was told I need to basically cut all those things out completely. I am sure down the line (after 6 months). I can have them every once in a while. For now it's a no go. It will affect your weight loss.

    Drinking from a straw

Same with me. Mr Doctor says no straws, ever. When I went to a restaurant by habit I drank from a straw. I was halfway through when I realized it, but I kept going. I refuse to drink out of cups in restaurants without a straw anyway. So that "no-no" will always be broken when I eat out (which is very seldom).
  18. Hi. No judgement from me whatsoever. I understand what growing up over weight does to your self esteem. Growing up today is nothing like when I was a teenager (I work at highschool). I had my surgery here in the U.S., but I'm just wondering if maybe your doctor could recommend you to someone? Or are they being no help at all and not supporting your decision? Good luck to your daughter. I hope this is a start to her new beginning. With you being sleeved she has a chance at being successful.

    shoe size

I am 5 weeks out and 40 lbs down. I haven't lost a shoe size yet (thank goodness), but I have lost the "fat girl lean" haha. My shoes look and fit so much better. I am hoping I don't lose any shoe sizes. I love my shoes!!

    Weird Ear Symptom After Surgery?

Since about one week after I was sleeved my right ear sometimes feel like I have Water in it. I have tried cleaning it out, using wax removal, warm water, but it doesn't help, it's clean. It also doesn't last all day maybe a few hours. It starts about 45 minutes after I wake up and lasts a couple of hours. I keep meaning to tell my doctor, but of course it's not happening at the time I'm there and I forget about it.

    someone sew my mouth shut!

Tell me about it. Sweets on steroids today! Someone brought two packs of cupcakes and endless chocolates. I just wanted to lick the top of the red velvet cupcake OMG! I was good, I didn't do it!! So not cool to have the food table right in front of my office. Today I put 13,000 steps on my pedometer. I stayed as far away from my desk as I could to get away from it. I did have a co-worker that was sweet and gave me a Valentine's bag full of oranges . Nobody knows I had the surgery, but they see me loosing weight and eating healthier. I gave her a huge hug for that!! Valentine's Day is EVIL !!!! Haha

    Waiting

57 days?!?! Waiting SUCKS! It took week for me to get approved (not to mention my six month waiting period) and I swear I lost most of my pre-op weight waiting for the approval. Good luck! I hope it goes quickly for you!

    Fluid intake

Hi! You are one of the lucky ones. Believe me, you don't want to be the one who can't get their fluids in its no fun!!! I am one of those people, although now, at 5 weeks it's getting a little easier. Unless you are having pain I wouldn't worry. Congrats on ur surgery!!

    guacomole?

Hi, I was approved to have refried Beans during phase 2, if they were thinned out really well. I got so sick. I have only been able to tolerate them since week four, and only a half teaspoon. I tried guacamole (which I absolutely love) and I couldn't stomach it, and I still can't (which is really upsetting). Every doctor definitely is different with their food phases. I was just released to soft foods today, and I was surprised to be told I could eat apples (without the skin, and oranges). I had my first cutie (mandarin) today, and it was the BEST cutie I have ever had. My sleeve is telling me what it wants, and believe me if my sleeve doesn't like it I haven't tried it again. The violent vomiting is a lesson learned for me . My mind and my stomach need to get on the same page lol.

    Exercise -- Honest Answers...

At 3 weeks I was on the stair master for 15 minutes and doing various weights for 25 minutes. The first week was rough. I got light headed too, but for me I just wasn't getting enough Water. Working out will definitely get me drinking now. I'm still trying to figure out why they opened a gym right behind a McDonald's, UHG!!!! And there is never parking at the gym, because everyone is at McDonald's. Cruel and unusual punishment!
