    Fruits...

My doctor told me I could have fruits at 5 weeks out (soft stage). i just need to peel the skin off apples etc. I love being able to eat fruits. I missed them. My body still cant tolerate applesauce.

    Questions

I had the pains also. It gets better after a week or so. My stomach still makes the wonderful noises. I think its trying to hold a conversation.

    Exercise?

I'm doing pretty good. I haven't weighed myself since my last doctor appointment, so I don't know how much more I have lost. I do know I have gone down two pant sizes. I have to wear belts for sure. I have been working out 3 days a week, but slacked off last week. Went to Zumba for a hour today and I was able to do the entire class without passing out or having a hard time breathing. That is huge for me! Lol. I really enjoyed it and wouldn't mind doing it. There are some foods I can tolerate, but still trying to find that balance. How are you doing?

Does removing the drain = pain?

Less than 5 seconds. It was really quick for me.

    Congratulations on your new sleeve!

    Overwhelmed

Oh heck ya I felt overwhelmed. I had to do a six month supervised weightloss. I got discouraged so many times! It did help me prepare for my surgery and the healing process. There of course are things I would have never predicted, but it was definitely worth the wait! Good luck with your pre-op. Your surgery will be here sooner than you think .
  8. I take (2) Vitafusion Multibite gummies. I was advised by my doctor to not take calcium until I was 4 weeks out, then I took crushed up calcium citrate w/500 mg of calcium.

Does removing the drain = pain?

When my drain was removed it HURT like HE!!. I was already in PAIN because the drain overinflated during the night. I was laying on the table in the room and he yanked it out. I screamed. He's lucky I didn't kick him! It was quick and I felt 80% better almost instantly.

    Nothing bothers me!

You are so lucky! I wish I could say the same . Your starting weight was 219? Congratulations you are doing great!
  11. For me the first couple of weeks (about 3 weeks for me). I had a little pain when I tried to lift anything. A toddler may be a little more painful (especially moving around). I have a grown child, but I did try lifting packages and dog food. It didn't feel so good.

    How much protein

That's interesting. I have been taking biotin pre op (6 months prior to surgery) and I was wondering if that would make a difference. I'm almost two months, I guess I'll find out pretty soon .
  13. Hi, i used my sick time. My job also requires written notice. My doctor gave me a generic letter (on letter head) which just stated I was having surgery and needed to be off from this time to this time. He had me off from Jan 7th until Feb. 17th. Just in case there were complications. The office said it's better to ask for the most time up front, than coming back and asking an employer for more time. I was back at work full time on Jan 28th. I just wanted to make sure I was as close to 100% as possible. It worked out great. I was really tired the first week back, but by the second week it was smooth sailing. I told NOBODY about my surgery. And to this day nobody has a clue. As far as they know I am a healthy food eater who works out 3 days a week (intensely) haha.

    Do you still enjoy food?

I still struggle. I have to get my eyes in line with my stomach. I was at a party on Saturday. I had to be very selective with what I chose. Throwing up in front of a group of people was not an option. Having the surgery is a big adjustment. I found that I actually do more talking while I eat rather than stuffing my face (like I used to). Ending my relationship with food has been the hardest part, but you can still enjoy food. You just enjoy it in smaller quantities and you (hopefully) make better food choices. I haven't touched sweets, rice, Pasta or bread in almost two months. It's not easy, but it's making healthier decisions that makes the reason I got the surgery all worth while. Good luck with your decision.

How often did you call insurance?

My paperwork was submitted on a Thursday, I called Friday & on Monday, I was told someone would review it Wednesday afternoon (they have 7 days, I was told). I called Wednesday and they said by Thursday afternoon . I called Thursday afternoon, no decision urrrg! I called first thing Friday morn.......approved! Through the whole waiting game I couldn't eat/sleep or concentrate! I was a mess! I lost most of my weight waiting on the approval (mind you I had to go through six months of insurance requirements)! As soon as I got the approval I called the scheduler. She was happy I called her (she was swamped). I got the last appointment for January. Otherwise I would have had to wait until March! Moral of the story....do whatever makes you comfortable!

Hello- I have a few questions.

I was able to walk my dog right after surgery, actually the nurse and doctor said anything to get me up and walking was great. I was released to start working out 02/03, and it is going great. No issues.

    Getting On Track

Are you self pay or going through your insurance? The reason I ask is because each doctor has a different plan, and my food phases may not be the food phases your doctor would recommend for you. I can scan the pages my doctor gave to me and message them to you if you would like.

Hello- I have a few questions.

Hi Lisa, I was sleeved Jan. 7. My signature lists everything my insurance required me to go through. You are going to get a lot of different answers about what everyone had to do to prepare for surgery. For me I had to loose 10% of my weight prior to surgery. I don't regret the surgery at all, but that's not to say it's been easy. I would have never imagined something so simple like drinking Water could be so difficult. Or making sure you are getting in your Protein. Foods I loved pre-op I can no longer tolerate post-op. It definitely is a life changing surgery. I have stumbled a lot, but I am more conscious of carbs, sugar and protein (but not obsessed, yet lol). It does begin to get a little easier with time. Everyone's time frame (recovery) is very different. Congrats on your decision! Enjoy your journey.

    Bananas

Love bananas! I put them in my Protein drinks, and smoothies YUM! I've never been told by my doctor to steer clear of them. Bananas are not on my lovely "don't not touch list".
  20. I had my surgery 01/07, my doctor released me to go to the gym Feb 3rd. I go three days a week. I notice it most in my arms. They are really slimming down and toning. The more stubborn areas are dragging behind. Everything is getting smaller though. I am so excited! Went from a 3xl to a xl shirt! And two and half pant sizes. I am Apple shaped so that is huge.
  21. It "slipped" that I was in the hospital, so I t told people my appendix bursted (did my research on a bursting appendix). As far as the consistent weight loss, luckily for me I had 6 months to prepare for my surgery. I was already losing weight prior to going in for surgery. So it was easy for me to tell people I started working out at the gym. I'm glad the weight is not dramatically coming off cuz I tell people I do hard core work outs 4 days a week (I do go work out, but only three days and not HARD CORE) and I say I cut out rice, Pasta and junk food (not a lie). So they see I'm toning up. It's mostly true with a little "untrue" added to it. Lol Then I change the subject. It's worked for six weeks . That's my story and I'm sticking to it haha.
  22. Hi M N_thin 0211 No, that wasn't a helpful post and hopefully you are not completely discouraged. For me I could not tolerate the Protein shakes (it didn't matter how it was "doctored" up). I lived off Water and very small amounts a Protein Shakes for the first two/three weeks. I was not a happy camper. Do you like clam chowder? I sipped the liquid and left the chewable parts. Week three I was also nibbling on mozzarella sticks. Ask your doctor if It's ok for you. I'll admit, I didn't ask, during week three I just did it (it was on my approved list). I chewed it so well it was basically evaporating in my mouth. That was really the only thing I could eat (and I have never been a cheese person). My doctor did tell me I could have smoothies. I understand every doctor is different, but my doctor was all for it. I bypassed the pureed stage by drinking smoothies and shakes (i looked up different nutritious smoothies) and occasional mozzarella cheese sticks. I will never find pureed anything appealing . You'll be ok, don't worry you won't fail. It's a stumbling block, goodness knows I have stumbled. Nothing is the same for everyone. Only you know your body and what you can tolerate. Chin up cricket!!! You'll find your groove . Good luck to you, and happy journey.
  23. Welcome Rebecca! Congratulations on your weight loss! Welcome to the forum.

    Having a hard time eating?

I feel your pain! I am 6 weeks out and I can barely tolerate anything that requires chewing lately. I know my doctor is going to tell me to go back to liquids.....I know the routine, it's a vicious circle. So, I will go back to my smoothies.....again. It SUCKS big time. It makes eating a chore. I've never had to work so hard to get food in. Good luck I hope you are able to get something in soon.
