    Not doing good with foods!

Hi, I was just sleeved 5 days ago. I am just wondering what the feeling is that you feel? How do you know it doesn't agree? Is it a pain you feel, vomiting, or dizzy? I have tried soft foods (like Apple sauce and yogurt) and I get this pain in my stomach, but it's the same pain when I drink Water. I'm just trying to figure out if It's my body trying to process or if I actually need to stay clear. What can you eat that doesn't make you sick?

Hi Joanne, How long was your hospital stay? I'm waiting for the minimal pain to come. I'm still popping the percocet' s three-four a day. Hopefully you will have a speedy recovery.

    January 2014 Sleevers Come In!

Congrats that you are feeling so good Deb. I am Day 1 postop too and not doing so great. Felt great yesterday once I woke up and was able to be up and around. Have had waves of very bad nausea to deal with but the meds took care of that for the most part. Today I feel much worse - have lots of bloating and gas, its very uncomfortable, and for some reason I am not able to pass the gas. Surgeon says that the anesthesia sometimes shuts down the intestines for longer in some people than others. Apparently I am one of the lucky longer people. Have been walking constantly but it doesn't seem to help, just shifts the pain from one side to the other. Also looking forward to getting the drain out, probably tomorrow. Am back on clear liquids/gelatin/broth but have zero desire to eat. The pressure in my abdomen is too much. Sometimes I feel like I'm going to pop like a balloon. Basically I just have to get through it! I hope everyone is feeling great...even going through this, I'd still do it again...have not had one second of regret. A formerly tight hoodie that I took with me to the hospital is now hanging off me. Only good things are in the future. I do feel your pain. I was sleeved on Tuesday, and after the surgery I didn't feel anything because I was so drugged up (which was a good thing) I slept the first day ALOT! The second day was so painful I was in tears. They gave me dalaudid and another drug to help with the pain, and boy did they work!!! They kept shooting me up with blood thinners. My poor stomach was just being attacked over those three days!!! I had a patch for the nausea and it worked (sometimes) they had to switch me to something else. I'm just waiting to where I can sleep in my own bed, on my stomach with no pain!!

That's great to hear AZdesertrose76! Have you done the leak test yet? I was loopy also, and a bit nauseous. Luckily no vomiting, that would have been painful to say the least. Dilaudid does wonders doesn't it! I felt nothing after they gave me that . Did they offer you the patch behind your ear? I'm on day four, still store, but once I take my pain meds I can get comfortable. Did they give you a drain? Hopefully you will be able to sleep. I think my longest sleep stretch was 3 hours... still haven't Been able to sleep a full stretch yet. Can't wait until I can sleep on my stomach! Hoping for a pain free evening for you.

    Drain

I had my surgery on Tuesday. I still have the drain in. I can take a picture and show you what it looks like if you want. Basically it's just draining the blood out of your stomach. I get it out Wednesday. You have to be careful when you get up or walk that it doesn't get stuck. You also need to drain it (it is a litle bulb on your side attached to a hose). My doctor wants me to record the amount that I drain each day and the color. It doesn't hurt, it's just a "pain" that it's hanging there haha. I have a safety pin and have it attached to my underwear or pants. You should only get concerned if the Fluid turns green or yellow....it could be an infection. Mine is draining clear now....I need to confirm if that is a good or bad thing

    What to pack?

I had my surgery in a California hospital, you may need to add body wash, shampoo etc. All I brought with me to the hospital were the clothes on my back (to wear to the hospital and back home) my toothbrush and toothpaste, a brush/comb, my Kindle (but I rarely used it since I slept a lot of the time), my phone and my IPOD (I would listen to music to help me get some sleep during the day since it can get a little loud, chapstick and my hair ties. The hospital provided the gowns, hospital socks. I had the smallest bag going in and an extra bag leaving since they gave me a lot of extra stuff like gauze (to change my drain) and a cute teddy bear that was used if I needed to cough. You'll be tired. I could barely focus on the TV (it stayed off most of the time). I didn't get a change to use my KIndle because I was SO out of it!

  8. Has your doctors office confirmed that you need to do 2 weeks of the liquid diet? I know everyone's Dr./insurance is different but I only had to fast the night before, no two week diet. If your sure you have to do two weeks I would start off with two shakes a day (breakfast and lunch) and a full meal for the first week so you can work yourself up to the two week liquid diet then in won't be so much of a shock. I started off with one shake a day for the first 3 months and then I did two shakes a day and a full meal for 3 months. I lost 15 pounds doing that. I am sure you will do great. Look at the reward at the end of all this.

    4 random post-op questions

Hi, I just had mine Tuesday. 1. Let me just say everyone has a different pain tolerance. I was so medicated right after that I didn't feel anything until the next day. The pain I had was a searing pain on my left side. It wasn't gas, but the pain got me good meds! Dilaudit and touredal (that's not spelled right). They sent me home with percocet. That's been a life saver. I was hoping I would be one of those people that didn't have much pain, but I wasn't...and I have a high pain tolerance. 2. I was able to wear the hospital underwear/pad because I was on my period. 3. On day two I was walking to the bathroom alone. 4. I have on a binder (around my stomach) and it helps ALOT! Everyone says walk and the doctors want you to walk, but when I find that comfy position. I don't move because it's hard for me to find it again. I've gotten up several times and walked around, walked my dog, and went to get a prescription filled. I'm just taking my time. I still have my drain in until next week.

wrong date of birth = no surgery?

I went through something similar except, the Dr.'s office that I went through had another person's name (similar to mine), her DOB, and her address/phone. I told them when I went to My consultation they had the wrong info. They said they would change it. Fast forward 6 months (right up to the Friday before my surgery) and they STILL had my information on half of my paperwork incorrect. I still had my surgery (on Tuesday) they told me it wasn't going to affect my surgery. Funny thing is there was another lady with my name (spelled a little differently), different DOB, and of course different address and phone. She was trying to have the surgery too. I hope after all that she got her surgery. I went through ALL my authorizations and made sure it was my info and not hers! CRAZINESS!!!
  11. Hi everyone! Thank you for the we'll wishes! I was sleeved as of 10am today. I am on dilaudit, and taking advantages of every bit. I have been in and out today. Extremely tired and somewhat dizzy. I couldn't walk much the first time due to being dizzy. The walk itself was not painful at all. The staff here is AMAZING! I will try to keep everyone posted. I do know one thing, it's freakin HOT in my room. Thank goodness it's a private room. I am dying for Water....I have to wait until my leak test tomorrow . Off to sleep again, I can feel my eyes rolling!

    Best Facial Firming Creams

I love Oil of Olay's firming cream. Loreal' s firming cream is supposed to be very good also. Both are about $20.

    Four-1/2 months post surgery

Congratulations! That's a huge drop in four n 1/2 months! I was just sleeved on Tuesday. I enjoy reading about other sleeved patients and their recovery. Sorry I'm still at the stage two (yogurts, applesauce, Soups - only broth & creamy). I would LOVE some steamed veggies, I can't wait until I'm at that stage. How long after you were sleeved did you go back to work? And good luck with your new dating life! How exciting is that!!!!!

I am officially a post sleever!

Hi, I'm on percocet. I don't have pain if I to keep popping meds. It's a struggle to get fluids in. I went home on day three and without pain meds it's horrible. I can't eat applesauce, but I do good with yogurt. Water is hard I've even tried Crystal light, but I'm still trying. I don't want to end up in the hospital. I walked this morning and it felt ok.

Oh boy! I need some support folks!

I was just sleeved on Tuesday. The hardest part for me was the pain. I wasn't one of the lucky ones that had little pain. Today is better, but still some pain. The gas SUCKS! But that's not my major pain, it's the area they operated on that's really tender. My doctor is great and the staff here are VERY nice. I didn't think of backing out because I had six months to prepare myself. I'm glad did it (for now). Good luck to you and with ur surgery.
  18. I am 3 days post op and I am sipping on broth now, but I'm being moved over to stage 2 by lunch. The Jello here makes me sick and today is the first day I have been able to drink the broth at all. I was told I can eat Soups (including creamy soups). I'm just looking forward to eating without pain!

    January 2014 Sleevers

I had my surgery on Tuesday. I had my leak test yesterday and now I can sip water and eat jello, but it hurts like hell. I still have a lot of pain and the gas seems to want to stick around and keep me miserable. I hope you have a speedy recovery. I'm hoping I'm out of here by tomorrow.

    Vitamins

I use Syntha-6 Protein shakes (vanilla ice cream and chocolate cake batter. I just found out today that I have to buy sugar free Protein Shakes, so I need to buy the premier (ready made) that they sell at costco. They r delicious and she said that's the best way to get my 80-100 grams of protein each day.

Yahoo that pain is ridiculous. It's right under my ribs. They tried to take away my dilaudid and gave me something else that didn't work at all and made me sick. So now I'm on Dilaudid every hours and an into inflamitory that has worked wonders. The dilaudid has only been working for 2 hours at a time. I'm not leaving until my pain is bearable.

Hi. The same with me. Yesterday I was so tired and nauseous. Today I feel a little better but this pain under my ribs is crazy. I have to walk before I take the dilaudit because it makes me tired and dizzy.
