  1. Have you tried any Protein shakes? Of course what you like now you may not like post op. I was told to start taking my Vitamins, B12, and Calcium 6 months prior to surgery. Maybe you can check with your doctor and see if he/she wants you to start anything prior to surgery. It wouldn't hurt to start wheening yourself off of any caffeine etc. When Is your surgery date? Congratulations.

    How much protein

I was told at least 80 grams, but from what I was told hair loss is inevitable. Although I've read some people are LUCKY enough to not experience it. I can only hope it won't happen to me, but I doubt it. I was told to take Biotin to help with the loss, but from what I have read here on the forums that doesn't seem to help either. I hope the hair loss doesn't last too long for you.
  3. I had to take magnesium citrate at 2p the day before my surgery. It was disgusting, and oh goodness stay close to the bathroom! Uhh! It definitely will cleanse!
  4. Wow, it's funny how so across the board different surgeons are. I had to go through a 6 months waiting period before my surgery (and lose 10%). I started off with 1 shake a day for 3 months (with lunch/dinner), then 2 shakes a day (only dinner). My Dr. didn't require the 2 week liquid diet, I just had to fast the day before. The waiting period did help me prepare for the surgery.

    2 days post op concerns...

2 days post op and no pain or discomfort when you eat it? You are very lucky! No, I don't think that's bad at all.

1 month out, how many calories?

I am 4 weeks out. My doctor asked me how I was doing eating and I told her between 500-600 calories. She said she wanted me to get in 800. That seems hard right now. Now that I am on soft foods it may be be a little easier to get there. I'm still only at 650 -700 max. I started working out two weeks ago, since I knew I was starting soft foods soon. I noticed with the weight coming off my arms and legs needed some definite toning!

    2 days post op concerns...

You've only gone 1 time a week? Isn't it painful when you go? I haven't gone in three days, so I just took some milk of magnesium. I can only eat a half of the container of yogurt (3 oz). I see there are quite a few people who can eat the 6 full oz with no problem.

    How many calories per day?

I'm only 4 weeks out, but my doctor wants me at 800. I've been between 600-700.

    bowel issue?

I can't wait for salads and "normal vegetables"....ooh that's what I dream of.

    bowel issue?

I was going every day (prior to surgery), but now at 4 weeks it's more like every 3 days. I used to go like clockwork. I know it will be normal in time, but in the mean time I am going to take milk of magnesium tonight. It's definitely not comfortable to me .

New sleever, 6 days post op today

I feel your pain. When I was first sleeved I so wanted to drink something that had some taste. When I did, I felt sick. I guess for me it was getting used to getting different "foods", like broths and Soups. I'm still pretty new at this, but slowly I am learning what my stomach wants and doesn't. Right now I can't even look at a can of broth haha, it makes me nauseous. I wasn't hungry the first week cuz I was in PAIN, but around the second week I found some soups that agreed with me and filled me up. How many times do you eat each day?
  12. FitnFabfor2014

    rest

For the first week after I was really weak and didn't have much energy. I was told to get up and walk around as much as possible, but if I felt dizzy to take it easy. I will be honest the first two weeks I really took it easy. I didn't go back to work until 3 weeks after surgery. I am starting to get some energy back, but it's been slow coming. For me personally there was nothing wrong with taking it easy, but I just made sure I got up and moved around and walked throughout the day, so I didn't get any blood clots. It definitely helped with recovery. Are you having. Hard time getting up or walking? Congrats on your surgery. Hopefully you are recovering well.

    Realistically.....

I had my surgery 1/7. My Dr. said 64ozs. I am getting in about 32-40. I used to have no problem drinking Water....all day long. Now it's difficult. I don't like any of the sugar free drinks or crystal lights so I just "suck it up" and drink it plain. I have better luck getting in the Protein than the water.

    Transition from liquids to purees.

Hi, I was so looking forward to getting off liquids but, unfortunately I had a hard time with the pureed foods also. I was only able to get in some pureed tuna and that only lasted for a minute, then my Dr. put me back on liquids again uhg. The pureed foods just were not sitting well at all. Today I tried some pureed chicken salad. It's ok I guess. I think my big issue is texture. I can not stand the pureed taste/texture of anything . I keep finding myself going back to liquids each time. You may fly through puree' foods and really enjoy it. Good luck!

    Boobs

Just wondering (if you dont mind) how much they are charging? I know it depends on the dr and location, but Im just trying to get some type of ball park figure. A friend of mind got her boobs, lipo, her stomach & thighs done for $30k...She was saying the breast surgery alone was about $8-$10k. Hers look great! That is the only reason why i started considering getting it done. So done with big droopy boobies lol!

    Vent

And if you did mean an actual vent after surgery......it was still the drain haha. I will vent about that when I am old and grey!!!
  17. FitnFabfor2014

    Vent

Hi, If you did mean drain, I had one. It was the cause of 80% of my pain post surgery. Everyone has had different interactions with the drain some say it HURT, some say it didn't. For me it HURT (I almost jumped out of my skin when they removed it. I thought for sure they took an organ or two out with the tube). Each doctor has their reason why the do or do not put in a drain. My doctor told me before hand they would be putting in a drain (and sending me home with it for a week). The way it was explained to me was the fluids (blood) is drained from your stomach, which also helps prevent clots. After a few days there is less Fluid (blood) and it is also clearer than when it's first inserted (which is a good sign). My doctor told me all his patients are sent home with a drain. It's not a decision made prior to surgery. It's standard for his practice. Did your doctor say would have a drain? Good luck with your surgery tomorrow. I hope you have a speedy recovery!

    Boobs

So far, at almost 4 weeks, I still have the same cup size (DD), but I have gone from a 40 to a 38....so far. The band reduction size I am sooooo looking forward to. Not so much the cup reduction .
  19. I had one when I first got in the hospital and registered. I forgot it was there .

    Heyyyy I need help

My Dr. Said whenever it was comfortable. I start on my side and I woke up one day on my stomach. I was so happy when that day came! I think I was two weeks out.

    January 2014 Sleevers Come In!

Hello to all the January sleevers! Congratulations to everyone! Even though it's a struggle (and some may have a bout of temporary regret), when we've "mastered the sleeve" I'm sure will all agree it will be one of the best decisions we have ever made! Happy 2014 everyone! I wish everyone a healthy and happy journey!!!

Surgery 2 days ago & hungry?!?

Hi coco 1265, I didn't drink Protein for almost a week after. My doctor said try, but I shouldn't worry so much about the protein more than staying hydrated. For me getting down warm liquids was definitely easier than cold or room temp, but everyone is different. I still struggle with liquids, but at 3 weeks out I find it a little easier to get my protein because I can get some of it from food. Congratulations on your surgery and good luck on your journey!

    First Pangs of Regret

I love how you broke this down. It was eye opening!! Thanks for sharing this. It really helps to put things in perspective.
  24. Mine went down from 1 year to six months

    Still can't drink

Hi, have you tried sugar free popsicles? When I wasn't getting enough hydration my Dr. Suggested them. She said it's tricks your body into taking in fluids. She said one gets you about 2oz of fluids. Sorry you are still not feeling better.
