Scary surgeon story has me freaked out!

My condolences to the family and may the patient rest in peace, always sad. Having said that... We all go into this knowing there are risks. We don't really have all the facts here. And I don't really even need them. People sometimes die in surgery or recovery. My surgeon also had a patient die and that has not caused me to switch doctors. I will still be going to Mexico next week and that doc will still be doing my surgery. I am very healthy, have been following my pre op diet to the letter, no co mrobidities and have 100% faith and trust in my doctor. Now if these doctors had more than one or two I would re examine, but I feel totally comfortable and I'm going in with me eyes wide open. Wishing EVERYONE a safe and rewarding journey! Ciao ...

Oh my gosh, Ringo, so sorry to hear about the tragedy. I made a commitment to stick 100% to the pre op diet. I just don't want any complications or to get turned around and resceduled. It's not too late. You can get clean right now! If it were me (and u should check with your doc cuz I'm not a physician) but personally... I would take a laxative today and start cleansing my system of all the bad stuff. Then I would go on 2-3 days of protein shakes only (whatever amount of cals your doc ordered) mine is 900. Then I'd do the remaining days on pure liquid. Two ISOPURES will give u 80 grams of protein with only 320 cals. Swansons makes some delicious flavored broths now...hot n sour, tortilla soup and ginger chicken. I'm on 900 cals of shakes, lettuce and fish, chicken, eggor yogurt a day Til Tuesday when I go totally liquid. Have lost a pound a day on the pre op so I'm down 15 lbs now. C'mon girl, you got this!
  3. Wooo hooo! Everyone's dialed in on the countdown! Crystal is your surgery on Nov 1st like mine? Stay strong everyone and have a fantastic day :-)
  4. 7 days left and surviving the pre-op diet.

Lol... Yeah let's meet at the hot tub for a late night rendesvous! Lol. How are u doing on your pre-op diet? I'm soooo ready!
  6. Survived day 7 and I will admit, I was hungry today. Pushed through, drank more water. I've lost 15 lbs now, so there's no way I'm messing this up! My clothes are wayyyy looser. My rings are falling off, certain shoes are way to loose to wear. People are just starting to notice that I'm losing weight. Guys...don't be nervous about this pre op diet. Embrace it. Enjoy the journey... This is what getting skinny feels like. Love it !

    Rib pain!

Yes I just posted about this a couple days ago. I was calling it a side ache but yeah sounds like what I'm experiencing. But I think I've narrowed it down to when I drink a large amount of water at a time (like 16 oz bottle) does yours happen at certain times too?

Also, are you taking vitamins to keep up with your energy? My doc recommended sublingual B-12 which melts under your toungue (trader joes has them) I take two a day and my energy is good. Plus I do a packet of crystal light energy a day in my protein shake or in a bottle of water.

I'm Scared of My Pre-Op Diet

Ok so most doctors recommend 60-90 grams of protein. Your shake had better have at least 30 gr. and you'll be eating alot of yogurt (dannon lite n fit Greek yogurt /x the protein) or you could do one ISOPURE clear liquid protein -40 grams of pro per bottle. It's filling satisfying and you'd have your recommended protein to keep u healthy strong and within your doctors guidelines. U wouldn't even have to do much yogurt if any, if u drink an ISOPURE. Tastes kinda like Gatorade. Available at GNC or online at ISOPURE or GNC. I personally would limit the fruit juice, the calories add up fast unless u do V8. Splash lite which is 1/2 the cals of reg juice. When do u start your pre op diet? I'm halfway thru mine.

I'm Scared of My Pre-Op Diet

Well first of all, you are not alone. I think most of us were pretty scared, uncertain about surviving the pre op diet. If you start cutting out sugar and carbs now... It will be much easier for your body to adjust and detox. It's really not that bad tho. Something happens to our body where it just adjusts to the smaller food intake. I work a pretty demanding job, long hours etc and I'm doing fine for all six days so far. You will too! Congrats on your commitment to going forward with the surgery. Dr illan has alot of happy sleeve patients! I'm going to Mexico in one week. So your diet that was designed by satan only allows CLEAR liquids? Plus a shake and yogurt? Or full liquids?
  14. Survived day 6. In fact I'm so busy I hardley have time to think about eating but I really didnt have alot of energy today. To the poster above me with the cute blue fish Icon... I dunno about adding peanut butter. Did ur doc say that was ok??? I can of eat that on mine. If u want to flavor your shakes u can add crystal light. Like strawberry to the strawberry shake is good. Peach mango energy crystal light to the vanilla is delicious!! Also those sugar free flavored syrups they sell. I forget the name... Starts with a T. I can have lean fish (1 small Pc per day) so I have been poaching it in seafood stock and it tastes like lobster.
  15. Is that the liver shrinking??? Ewww. Anyone else experience side aches pre op?
  16. Oh that's a good idea. I'm only doing protein shakes so maybe it's just all that protein. I can try the strips. Thnx lipstick lady :-)

Congrats Kayla! Welcome to the lighter side. Keep us posted! Woo hoo!!
  19. You look forward to getting out of bed in the morning just so you can eat a calcium chew, and let a cherry biotin tablet melt in your mouth. Hey the multi vitamin is even becoming a treat now (at least it's something to chew) lol
  20. Yeah, lets try to avoid the grocery store during the pre op diet. That's all bad. Yes it does get easier, I'm on day 5, feeling great. Not hungry. Nerves are a little fried but other than that dieters beeotchiness I'm fine. I am definetley avoiding looking at the food signs today. It's the Devil testing me! Lol

    Feeling Alone

One thing I know for sure is that YOU have to want this. YOU HAVE TO DO THIS FOR YOU! Someone else nagging on you probably isn't going to be the best form of motivation. I would look deep inside and ask myself ....what are the reasons that I want to lose weight? What are the benifits for me and my loved ones? What am I willing to do to make this happen? And how should I tell him to stop harping on me, that it's really melt helping things. Make the commitment and don't look back. This is a big descision. But think of the alternative.... Staying stuck in that unhealthy body. Do what works. This surgery works, if you work it. Best wishes. And u are NOT ALONE. We're all here together!
  22. I had heard about the headaches and that they're be from carb/ vaccine and or sugar withdrawal, so I slowly tapered off that a week beforehand. Most say after the 5th day you feel great. Turkey wrap sounds good. Today is day 5 for me. 10 days Til surgery.
  23. 4 days down. 10 to go. Crystal light is a nice treat that breaks the water boredom.
  24. I'm trying to get this figured out. I want a peel while there. It's less expensive and I already have to be off work, so it sounds like a good plan. There was one lady here who had one done through the OCC center but I've had zero luck contacting them/ getting a response. For those who've bad it done there... Who did u use? How much did it cost? Did u do it before or after surgery? What was the experience and results??? Thanks :-)
