Halloween Weight loss Challenge
Italiancurves replied to FeeIsMe2's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am so in ! Halloween is the day I get in the car and drive 9 hours to TJ Mx. I will be checking in at the Marriott in TJ on Halloween eve, so this is purrrfect! Starting weight today: 219 Halloween goal: 200 As to gamer girls question of what we do differently... When we have accountability and commoradery in a goal setting, we excel because someone else is watching and caring. It's much easier to cheat, delay, procrastinate and dismiss when it's just us looking. A challenge like this makes it fun and we have the accountability factor! Should we check in weekly, every Friday?! Great post I like it. -
Aww thanks Mitz

Newbie here, how did you all pay for surgery? Finance?
Italiancurves replied to jenjer007's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
My credit is no bueno either and I do not want to wait to save up money. I've waited long enough. I was turned down buy the finance companies so I asked my mom to co- sign. She agreed but the bank said no, she would have to finance without me and I could make payments to her. Mom said, ok we will work something out. I sent in my deposit. And two days later in the mail I received a card from my awesome beautiful mother who said... I love you and know how much this surgery means to you... Best wishes... Happy healthy journey... Inside of the card was a check with the rest of the surgery money. My mom is my best friend, I'm truely blessed and grateful to be paying cash.but if I had to collect aluminum cans, work 80 hours a week, walk people's dogs, whatever it takes I was going to find a way! -
What are you looking forward to?
Italiancurves replied to Nina723's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I'm looking forward to getting rid of my fat clothes. I'm currently a size 16 (snug) but I have a size 14 wardrobe as I always buy clothes one size too small to some how motivate me to lose weight ( which has never worked for me). I will not allow myself to spend anymore money on clothes Til I lose weight so I'm really getting sick and tired of my current wardrobe. I look forward to gifting my clothes to my cousin who's surgery will be a couple months after mine and she's starting at size 18. So she will always have clothes to down size into. I look forward to never shopping at plus size stores again. Being able to wear regular size clothes. I look forward to watching the scale roll back the number that I've been stuck at for so long. I look forward to wearing high heels and my feet and knees aren't killin me. Not being imbarraresd in a bathing suit. Feeling normal...not fat. Being in control of my food intake...no binging or carb loading. Getting healthier, leaner and stronger. Getting to goal weight and staying there. Failure is not an option. Ready for change. Ready for success! -
Why/how did you choose MX for WLS?
Italiancurves replied to ducky125's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I was so angry when I found out that my insurance wouldn't cover any type of WLS. I was determined to find a way to do it. I googled " affordable self pay Weight loss surgery". Tijuana Mexico came up. I remembered saying... Oh great...tijuana. But I have been on a very in depth research of medical tourism in TJ and I am absolutely confident that I've made the right choice to get sleeved in TJ. Of course it's sad to hear about the death. All surgeries come with risk. I'm actually surprised there aren't more fatalities or complications just based on the simple fact that were higher risk at a higher weight (co morbidities). I'm booked for nov 1st. So looking forward to starting the new chapter in my life. I acknowledge the associated risks and I plan to stick with the rules and guidelines and advise of my doc to minimize complications. Mexico is affordable. The doctors are super experienced. And I look forward to the adventure. Also ... We don't have to jump through all the hoop that ppl getting sleeved in the US do. No wait time, phyc eval, mandatory 10% weight loss ets etc. Mexico just makes sence. I chose Dr Valensuela. 50 days Til surg. Super excited! -
Going to Mexico alone...
Italiancurves replied to ringo4's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I was all set to go alone, and felt quite confident that all would be fine. The driver meets you and takes you where you need to go... Hotel/ hospital. There are so many other sleevers there as medical tourists, it seems perfectly safe and comfortable to me. However just last week my husband announced that he is going with me. So I guess I'm not going alone but I certainly would have. I see no problem with traveling alone to TJ under the conditions of medical tourism were well protected. Best wishes to all that are traveling alone... We are with you in spirit! -

November sleeve buddies going to TJ ?!
Italiancurves replied to Italiancurves's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Looks like most people fly, my husband is driving me. 9 hours from home. I didnt want to be standing in lines, stuck smooshed on a plane or lay over time. It's possible I may regret my descision to drive but we shall see. My doc made me promise I will stop every hour and walk for a few minutes. 50 days left on the countdown. C'mon NOVEMBER ! -
I've seen a few posts about stomachs gurgling? I'm still pre op so not sure what that's like. Is it all the time? Just after you eat? Loud enough for other people to hear?
-
Oh ok, good to hear that it's getting better with time. Thanks for sharing, you guys.

Can we have even 1 or 2 grams of sugar post op without dumping?
Italiancurves posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The reason I'm asking is that my doctor from Mexico is recommending children's chewable multi vitamins and calcium chews...post op. I cannot seem to find sugar free of either. Both have 1 or 2 grams per serving. Has anyone taken these without dumping? Does anyone know where to find sugar free chews??? -
Best wishes for a smooth sailing journey. My surgery is in 53 days. It's like our born again birthday!

Joatsaint, thanks for the link. Good info. That peice also says ALL stomache surgeries where part of the stomach has been removed can suffer dumping syndrome. -

Italiancurves replied to Italiancurves's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Actually, ALL stomache surgeries can lead to dumping syndrome. My mother has an Colostomy and has had many dumping experiences over the years. There's a lady on u -tube who talks about having dumping syndrome (sleeved) after eating a small Wendy's frosty. And I've heard a few others mention it too. I realize that it's more common with bypass, but unfortunatley sleevers are not exempt. It sounds like a gram or two wont do it though. Thankfully. -

Worried about getting stuck at the border
Italiancurves posted a topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Hi there, this is my first post. I am concerned that the only identification my husband has to get back into San Diego is his drivers licence and multiple bills with his name and California address. But his entire file full of important documents has gone missing. Getting his birth certificate from England will be rough. Getting his US military documents, also rough. 54 days Til surgery in Tijuana. For those who've come back through at San Diego border... Should we be concerned? Oh and we have our marriage license and I have my birth certificate and license and bills. What's the worst case scenario??? -
Keeping surgery a secret...?
Italiancurves replied to SaraLou's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Only my emidiate family knows. I don't feel it's nessasary to share this with my coworkers. They'll just think I'm finally losing weight on one of the five million diets I've been on. I've seen how they gossip about the lady who clearly has plastic surgery... I prefer not to be the subject of gossip at work. My body...my business. -
How did your friends and family react to surgery in Mexico?
Italiancurves replied to Nina723's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
My original plan was to go to TJ alone. My cousin thought I was crazy. My husband insisted on going with me. My son respects my descision but looked at me with that look like... Seriously? My parents don't know I'm going to TJ. What they don't know...won't worry them. I think, at the end of the day...these people have heard some bad things about TJ but know that I do my research and have a good head on my shoulders. No one else knows besides my emidiate family.
