Man...I'm sore. It was a little harder sleeping completely flat versus elevated in the hospital bed. Harder to get in and out of bed too. My wife had a fund raising event for work that she couldnt miss so im on my own today. Hopefully I will be able to get up and move around on my own.

first night home from hospital
finehomes replied to finehomes's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Its day six post op now. Feeling much better. Still a little sore but now its mostly discomfort rather than pain. The gas pains are pretty much gone. Sleeping is still difficult because I'm usually face down and I dont want to try that yet. -
I would be ecstatic with 90 lbs weight loss. That would put me in the slightly overweight category and be the smallest I've been in twenty years. I just gotta get past this post op soreness. Im hurting pretty bad today but figure it will be mostly gone by the weekend.

first night home from hospital

I just got up and did some walking. Dont want to try the stairs without my wife so I did the hallway back and forth for a while. Maybe when she gets home we'll head on down the street. -
Its time to drive over to the hospital and start getting ready. I'm actually feeling more calm than nervous right now. Hopefully everything goes well and I'm on my way to being my old self again!!!

What are good protien shakes for the liquid diet?
finehomes replied to chass's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I really like the atkins ones. Look in the pharmacy section at Walmart for them -
I got preregistered with the hospital today. Tomorrow is all the preop stuff at the doctors office. Should get a phone call tomorrow about what time to report to the hospital on Monday. Still wondering if I'm crazy or just down to my last option and don't care anymore?

Surgery this Monday! Just had to tell someone!

Monday for me too. -
Just downloaded this app to get more info. Finally sick enough of being overweight to actually do something about it. I lost a lot of weight 10+ years ago doing Atkins and exercising...then had surgery to remove a brain tumor 8 years ago and gained it all back plus a bunch extra! Went from 265 down to 218 prior to that surgery and have been up to a high of 310+ the last year. My surgery is a week from tomorrow on September 16th. Crossing my fingers that I'm doing the right thing even though I'm really nervous. I guess I'm at the point of rather be dead than so overweight so the risks of surgery don't mean as much. Wish me luck! Sam

I was really surprised at how fast all of this is going. I just started thinking about this as an option a few months ago. I spent a month or so doing research online and talking to a couple people that have had the procedure done. I went in to have the orientation and consultation with the surgeon just a couple weeks ago and they were able to fit me in their schedule this quickly. I'm on Medicare due to the brain tumor and the docs office says I meet all of medicares criteria for them to pay. I just have to pay the surgeon and hospital copays which comes to less than $2000! I'm happy to pay that to try to be thin again!!!

The biggest culprits in my life has been my career choices. I was a home builder and land developer for ten years which meant always eating on the run and always drinking soda. For the past 20 years I probably do fast food meals at least 5-8 times a week. A half gallon or more of diet coke doesn't help. At least as a home builder I was pretty active. Now I work in architecture so my days mostly consist of sitting at a desk or being in the car to meet with clients. Not very good things for losing weight.
