wow, slow day yesterday! Guess we were all out running! LOL. I didn't wait 2 weeks to weigh myself, I couldn't! I really needed to know! And I'm glad I did! I'm down 4 lbs this week! Yippy! I'm going to go for my run in a little bit... week 6, day 2. Have a great day everyone.
-
hahahahaha Oh now I've done it! Whosya, just so you know, I was thinking of a MANLY cheerleading outfit! LOL. You know... the full body tights... maybe extra shinny! That will certainly sit in my head!
-
Yes, Renewed... I'm becoming a monster! I did Week 6 day 1 tonight... outside. I loved it. I had no problem with the intervals and really felt like I could go longer. I think my biggest struggle over the last few weeks was running on the treadmill. One thing I noticed is that "public humiliation" is a powerful motivator! LOL. I don't want to be seen struggling or giving up, so it pushes me to try harder and keep going! When I'm in the basement by myself, I can quit anytime without anyone seeing or knowing. I also like the open air, scenary and just the freedom to move. So I'm hooked on running outside! Too bad the weather isn't going to co-operate with me over the next few days. Lyn... "bring on menopause" LOL! I think mine is starting already or at least the weird TOM stuff and hormones! I'm much too young for this to be happening, but if it is... then bring it on and get it over!!!! I'm fed up with my TOM... lasts way too long with very little time in between! I had originally thought of running in a 5k on Sept 7th, but with my delay at week 5, I changed my mind. Now I'm toying with the idea of doing it, but just going in intervals. Any thoughts??? It's one that supports the Epilepsy wing of our hospital.... a department that we know far too well, as my son is epileptic.

Leslie... WOW... 6lbs! That's great! I've missed you a bit these last few days. Stop lurking and keep in touch... even if you don't run! I'm going to go for another run tonight. I was so thrilled with my 20min success yesterday that I want to keep at it. I also want to do this outside, but its supposed to rain all day tomorrow and throughout the weekend. So I'm going to head out shortly to try it again!

I DID IT!!! FINALLY!!! I ran 20 min non-stop!!!!! OMG I can't believe it. This has been kicking my butt for 3 weeks! Then I started to get discouraged, so I stopped running every 2nd day and started to have excuses not to run. I finally figured out I was board running on the treadmill. So today I decided to go outside and try it. My DH decided to come with me - even though he's sick and has bronchitus (LOL). So we ran a route that would end up at the school to pick up the kids. I figured I'd have to walk at some point, but just decided to run until I couldn't anymore or until I got to the school. Well, I got to the school without stopping and could have gone further. The time was 21 minutes... so I did it! I really liked running outside. Much more interesting and when I got tired I could slow down without working the controls of the treadmill. However, I do know I was running much slower outside than on the treadmill. But that's ok... time not speed right now is my goal! Now it's my turn to be sappy!!! Leslie... thank you for being in the "unmotivated" mode today. Seeing you in that situation was the right amount of kick I needed, because I realized I wanted to help you get motivated... so in turn I helped myself! Renewed... you are such an inspiration. I was thinking about you while I ran, thinking how much faster you would have been running!! LOL Georgia... thank you for being my running buddy. You are doing so great, and I know you're going to rock on your 5k. Luluc... your dedication to your fitness is so great! Knowing that you were struggling at a certain point a few weeks ago, and got through it, helped me persever to get through mine. Lynn... I love your humor and your posts. BTW... I land on my heals, and it all feels natural! So I guess I'm ok! Whosya... you're amazing! Your 10k time is great. Thanks for your cheering... imagine you'd look pretty cute in a cheerleader outfit! LOL Everyone on this tread is such an inspiration! I look so forward to talking with you all everyday, even when I don't succeed on my run. Thank you!!!

Ok Leslie... while I'm kicking your butt, I'll swing back really fast to kick my own too! LOL. I haven't run since Fri (I think??). I've gotten off track myself. I did keep busy on the long weekend, but didn't run. I planned to yesterday, but let it slide. So now I'm going to! My DH is home sick today. He had a chest x-ray and they found bronchitis, so he's got some antibiotics and an inhaler. Hopefully that will give him some relief. He's been coughing so loudly it scares me! So he's now in the bedroom napping, so I'm going to go do my run. My energy level seems to be coming back now that I've been taking the iron. Its been a week on the supplements, and all seems to be relatively ok now. I took the advice of my nutritionist and am swallowing the iron in a spoon of yogurt. That seems to stop the repeating! Thank goodness... that was aweful! Thanks for the low carb suggestions Georgia and Renewed! I think I might give it a try soon. I feel like I need to boost my weight loss speed. I need that positive reinforcement!

Sass... welcome! This is a very supportive thread and the C25k is wonderful! Georgia... good luck in the move... yuck! I bet you'll notice that you have lots of energy to get the move done! Don't worry about not completing your run... you just didn't have it in you... literally! Congrats on the weight loss too... you're over the hump, now its all downhill from here! Renewed... Your surgery is getting so close! Do you have a 5k scheduled prior to the surgery, because it would be great to accomplish that before all of your down time! How are you doing this week without the kids? Are they adjusting well? Ok, question time... Can someone following a low carb plan share with me what they eat typically in a day? I can't imagine it with the band as I have the most difficulty with meat.

Chase Bank--Chances are SO slim....
Kathybad replied to bandedhope's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm in Canada too, so had to pay for the lapband myself. Best decision I ever made... it has saved my life! No matter how much stress I have, and I'm a stress eater!!!, my band saves me from binging. I've been banded for over a year and have lost almost 75 lbs so far. I still have a ways to go, but I feel so much better now. As for paying for the band... I financed it at a high interest rate! It cost me way too much, so have recently paid this off through the Cash Leverage System... check it out. Good Luck! -
Skinny... welcome! You might not be able to run the full distance by then, but you certainly will be able to run a lot of it!! Set your goal and go for it! Make a plan of run/walk and that should get you through. Good luck, and keep us posted! Renewed... glad to hear you're out of danger. I've been glued to CNN watching the storm details. Very relieved it wasn't worse! Georgia... you are doing great! Keep it up and you'll do the full 5k on your chili run! Bonnie... You just derailed your freight train to bingeville! Congrats! The first step is recognizing what you are doing and then taking the right steps to stop it. Don't worry about back tracking on your running. You'll be fine. Your muscles will remember where you were and be back there in just a couple of runs!

Hi Everyone. Hope you had a great long weekend. I'm hoping everyone close to a Gustov strike zone is ok and if evacuated, is doing ok as well!!! I couldn't imagine the fear that creates. I had a nice weekend. We went back to Toronto for the day to visit my DH's aunt. She's a sweet lady who never married, and has no kids. She just adores our kids and has a special place in our hearts. I have to admit... I'm on a high still about my weight loss. I was bouncing around for so long with no tangible loss, that to see the 4.5 down was a real boost! I'm now only 20 lbs away from "Onederland" and my lowest weight since ever knowing my DH! I don't care how long it takes, I just know its going to happen! I haven't run since Friday, but plan to do so again in the morning. This time I'm going to try running outside!!! For the first time!!! I want to change it up a bit. Renewed... no worries about not doing the 10k. You still heard the Rocky music on your graduation run! Congrats. You've paved the way for all of us!
-
Way to go Renewed!!! Your are going to do great. I know my DH always ate protein and carbs beforehand. He'd eat some yogurt and a bagel ahead of time. Then drink water throughout. Good luck, and make sure your get a finish line picture!

Lyn... yeah... get those special inserts and off you go. Red hair eh? Feeling sexy lately... hmmm!!! Ok, I didn't last on the scale challenge! I decided to weigh myself today because I'm going out of town tomorrow and will be likely overindulging and I wanted my best weight for this. Drumroll.^^^^^^^^^^^^^ I lost 4.5 lbs, but my scale also measures body fat and lean muscle mass... so I lost 7.5 lbs of body fat and gained 3 lbs of muscle!!! So I'm very pleased. I also started this challenge with taking my measurements, and so I did that again. I lost a total of 6.5 inches overall... losing between .5 - 1.0 inch in all places. I even lost 0.5" off my calf!!!! I really am glad that I did this. I feel much better about my success and know the running has helped. I think I'm going to keep it to a 2-week cycle though. One month is too long and one week is too short.
-
Renewed... That's excellent!!!! Sorry about the port flipping, but the fat loss is great! You must be on top of the world! Congrats!
-
Leslie... have a great time at the waterpark! Sounds fun! Well I dragged myself downstairs and did my workout. I didn't want to, but kept thinking of all of you and that gave me the motivation to get moving! Thanks! I did my weight workout and then a walk/run of 30 min. I only ran for 10 min total, but at least I did the workout! Its kind of funny... I ran for 5 min and then walked for awhile and realized that it just wasn't doing it for me. So I ran again. I used to walk at 3.3 mph for about 45 min and that was enough of a workout to get my heart rate moving. But now, I wasn't even feeling like I was even working out walking at 3.6 mph. That's progress!! Hope everyone has a great long weekend!
-
Luluc... ouch! I hope your toes feel better soon! Whosya... good luck on the run! Georgia... Yeah, Way to go! Renewed... good luck with the Dr appt. I haven't run since Monday. I think I'm going to go again today and see how my energy is.

Mamato... I'm so glad your DH is starting to heal up a bit. I know its still a long road ahead, but it sounds like you are getting there and coping as well as you can. Don't worry about the daycare thing. Kids eventually make the transition and its a great place to learn social skills. Plus... they get exposed to all of those nasty childhood bugs so they actually become healthier in the long run! Ok, doesn't sound good, but it is! Just a question, but if you opted out of benefits when you started, can't you now opt in? I hope you can find a position soon that offers you the health care coverage you need. We don't have the best health care plan in the world here in Canada, but at least we know we're covered for major stuff. However, I have to admit its really good that my DH got full time when he did and that we opted into his benefits. We signed up for his benefits 2 weeks before I lost my job. If we hadn't done that we would have lost our drug plan. My son's medication costs $1,500 per month! Under my DH's benefits we don't pay anything!

Well I didn't run yesterday. My energy level is too low and my stomach was too upset from the iron meds. Still is... yuck! I'm going to call my lapband doctor to find out if iron impacts the band at all. I was also very achy and stiff from my weight workout the previous day. Oh boy am I achy today!!! I plan to try running today and also doing my weight routine. However, if my energy is too low after I do the weights I'm just going to walk. Renewed... if you're still in the mood to "deep clean", why don't you and your DS come here... I could use the help! LOL. Cleaning is just not something I like or do even remotely well. I used to joke with my DH that I became a career person just to avoid housework and aford a cleaner! Now of course I'm supposed to keep house, so I do a half a#$ job of it and DH teases me that "its his job to keep house and my job to keep him!!" So of course I take him up on that! LOL. Georgia... Week 3 is great... keep at it as long as you want and need too. You're running, and the knee is ok. Time to celebrate!

My doctor put me on Iron supplements because I'm a bit anemic. She has me taking it 2x day. I took the first one this morning and it has been repeating on me all day and I've PB more times today (on very little food) than I have all week. Does anyone know if the iron supplement affects the band? The pill isn't very big and I had no trouble getting it to pass. I hope this gets better because its aweful!

Georgia... don't get discouraged! The point of putting the scales away was to reduce our dependance on them and what they tell us. Your success is not determined by the reading on a scale. Remember the following: * Our weight fluctuates a lot, depending on our monthly cycles * Your scale shows just one number, but not the % of body fat vs. lean muscle mass... your weight might have gone up, but your body fat might have gone down. * If you feel better than you did a month ago.. who cares what the scale says!!!

Bonnie.. Hugs! I know what you are going through. My mom died of BC in 2000 and both grandmothers as well. I've had annual mamograms since I was 35. My first one I got that call as well. My call came in on Dec. 21st. By the time I received the message, they had closed the office and wouldn't be open again until Jan. 2. So I had to worry about it all through the holidays that year!!! Turned out I had dense breasts as well and they just needed more images done. I'm not going to say.. "don't worry about it" because that won't happen. But I will pray for you and hope that all works out!
-
Renewed... your boys are beautiful! What a nice picture! Luluc... LOL, I think I would have been pleased by the comment! BTW, did you say your intervals are: Run 5 min, Jog 1 min, repeat for 30 min?? So you don't walk!! In the HEAT!!! Ok, now you're my hero!
-
Barb... Welcome... you're one of us now! Lyn... ohh, your sore paw! Rest that thing! Do you have a cushioning insole in your shoe... will it help? Georgia... I can't workout too early in the morning either. I am not a morning person. Anything before 9am is just insane. My DH is so much a morning person, and he laughs at me as I drag my butt out of bed. I have my most energy in the afternoon and evening, so I usually run around 2pm. Once I get back to work, I'll probably run in the evening around 8pm. Tootie-Belle... congrats! You took control of your mind and made the run happen. Good job! Luluc... OMG... 45 min! You rock! I remember a few days ago you said you were having trouble getting past 15min straight, now you did 25min and then 20min!!!! I love your attitude... Oh well, the treadmill's always there tomorrow! You are so right. If we don't achieve our arbitrary goal today, there's always tomorrow! DH and I had a date night last night. We went out for a drink on a patio downtown and then for a nice Italian dinner. It was really nice. I had an NSV moment... the waiter at the restaurant was hitting on me when my DH went to the washroom. It was hillarious. He was cute too! So when my DH came back I displayed my affection for him in a bit more of a public way so that the waiter got the point. Too funny!
-
I just finished my run, and did the full 20, but had to break it up again. I ran 10, 5 and 5. This time I felt good but around 8 min. I had to go to the washroom so bad that I had to stop. LOL. Then once I stop, it seems that I can't continue much longer beyond that. Oh well, I still ran 20 min, which is great. I just wish I could run it straight!
-
Georgia... did you change your ticker design to a runner?? Or was that what you always had? If its new... looks great!
-
Renewed... our outings are more through necessity... but are fun. If we stayed in the kids would drive us crazy. They both have severe ADHD, and are the human form of the Energizer Bunny!!! You are in my prayers today and tomorrow! I'm so glad your mom is going with you. The trip home and afterwards could be very lonely, so having her along is great! Leslie... good luck today on week 4. You can do it!
