Hey everyone, I'm new to this forum and was wondering why I am loosing weight so slow. I am planning on seeing my doc today. I am 8 months out and have only lost about 35 lbs. I eat mostly soft foods because I get that severe salavating thing going on when i start eating. I have only had one fill so i'm kind of reluctant to get another because of the above problem. Any suggestions?? Sherry

Good Morning fellow bandsters!! Just felt like i needed to beep in this morning and say a little something about being banded. I was banded 10 months ago. The first 8 months of being banded I was ''stuck'' in the fear mode because a lot of the time when i ate I started that horrible sliming that we all have once in a while. I knew I was eating too much although it was way over 1/2 less of what i would normally had eaten prior to being banded. That fear kept me stuck for 8 months without getting the proper fill-thus, weight loss was really low for being 8 months out. 30 lbs to be exact. I was afraid to go back to my doc because i didint want to hear how bad i was doing so i just keep doing what wasnt working----i finally gave up the fight and went to my doc and got another fill and last week got another fill again. i was down 16.7 lbs inbetween fills which was only 4 weeks. I can't tell you how grateful I am to be loosing weight and to be finally ''working'' the band the way it was intended to be worked. Sure, I still occasionally get that sliming deal if i eat too fast or something that doesnt agree w/ my band, but I'm loosing and that's what i signed up for----so, I guess what i'm saying is don't be afraid of fills-talk to your doctor and let him know what is going on.....I'm so grafteful I did .....i'm 10 months out and down almost 60lbs with another 50 to go, but as long as i'm honest with myself i know without a doubt that i will make it!!!! Does anyone else have problems getting protein in? I do not eat meat at all. I do however, eat fish/shrimp/crab etc. Luckily I live on the East Coast of Florida and its readily available. Problem is I usually only cook it several times weekly and my typical dinner would consist of mostly carbs and veggies. I have been logging my food on fitday.com and my greatest intake is carbs. Last night I had 1/2 cup of rice with brocolli. Thats typical or a baked sweet potatoe and veggies. Lunch I do eat tuna salad, but also have crackers with it. I'm satisfied with my current weight loss right now, but several months ago I was not. I was PB'ing most meals and afraid to have a fill, but was able to eat way more than I should. I've lost almost 14 lbs in the last two weeks which I'm very satisfied with. This occured after i just decided to try another fill. Best thing I ever did. My band is finally working for me. FEAR kept me away from gettinga fill. I'm 8 months out and have only lost 45 lbs, but 14 of that has been in the last several weeks after getting rid of the fear and getting another fill. Any suggestions???? Sherry :help:

Hi Everyone, My name is Sherry and I am 8 months out. I have expereinced a lot of trials with my band. Trying to figure out exactly what to do by trial and error. I have had a very difficult time kicking old behaviors and until just recently ate pretty much anything because I knew because of my band I could only eat 'a little' and it really wouldn't hurt me. Well, I can say that i have not been compliant with my band until the last 3 weeks or so. I'm down 40 lbs since my surgery 8 months ago, which my doc is pleased because i'm averaging approx 4 bls or so a month. Truth is it COULD HAVE BEEN much more than that had I complied with the band rules. I feel motivated for the first time since being banded and am loosing weight at a higher rate now that I am eating solid proteins and not mushing everything up. I was afraid to eat solids because it made me slime. I was eating sugars, carbs in small amounts because i could 'get away' with it and NOT GAIN weight becaUSE of the band. TRYING really really hard to stay in the compliance mode with the band and not fall into old, bad behaviors regarding food. I have found that it has been one of the hardest things for me since being banded. Changing my mind set to 1/2 cup of food at a sitting IS ENOUGH. My mind set my entire life is NOTHING WAS NEVER ENOUGH. I'm trying really hard to stay in the day as my girlfriend tells me to do and focus on whats in front of me and not fall into old behaviors. I'm ready to get the ball kicking and gain higher gear with my weight loss. I have about 80 more lbs to go and I know i'll make it if i only focus on new behaviors and not fall into what has never worked for me.....Thanks guys for being here, Sherry

I just recently in the last two weeks started a vigourous exercise program 5 days weekly. I feel like this is the first time since being banded that I am motivated to do the right things. I havent really liked my band because eating is no longer pleasurable, but still being close to 80 lbs overweight I need to get on the wagon. I have started trying to eat more solid foods the last two weeks and keeping a food diary and also using fitday, but as i said earlier....I have just started this the last several weeks. Hopefully, with my doc appt this afternoon and touching base w/ others that face the same challenge it will produce a more positive outcome. Thanks again, Sherry

Thanks so much for your reply. Yes, I pretty much eat soft foods and have quit eating meats altogether for being 'afraid' that the 'lump' feeling and severe sliming would start. I'm seeing my doc for the first time in 4 months this afternoon and have tried eating more solid things the past week. I'm glad i found this forum as this has helped to touch base w/ people that have the same challenges that I face. Thanks again. Sherry
