  3. I am so happy you have iron will and a no bullshit attitude but tell why did you need to get sleeved? wasn't your iron will enough to get you through a diet?

    I lost 5 wiener dogs!

i lost an elephant penis and an adult maltese dog.
  5. I struggled with the decision for years and now I regret all the years lost. In the end what made up my mind was my medical condition. I got to the point where i couldn't do anything on my own. i hadn't left the house alone in months and i could only work from home limiting my options drastically. i finally desided that i didn't want to live like this. i was 50 years old and 451 pounds when i had the operaton. if i had done it when i was younger and lighter it would have been a lot easier. as it was they kept me for 5 days in icu "just in case". There were no complications in the end but still the doctor had to be sure. Its not always rosy and some days can be difficult but really what other option did i have? If i xould lose weight oon my own i would have done so years ago. You need to decide how important losing weight is for you and for what reasons.Find a doctor and discuss all your questions with him/her. i'm sure youll choose the best option for you in the end. good luck
  6. Unfortunately the sleeve only helps with the physical hunger - the emotional hunger is still there. My NUT said I could eat anything I want except for sugar. (only one dessert a week) Of course I;m lucky because sweets don't taste as good to me after the surgery. What I do when I want something that I feel is "bad" is that instead of cutting it out, which can lead to cravings, I eat some protein first and then I have very little room for the "bad" food so I can only have one or two bites. Anyway you haven't gained weight you just slowed down. I know it feels disappointing - I feel the same way when I get on the scales - but it will slow down eventually as it happens with all diets. Your body may just be adjusting. Just try to do your best. Remember why you are doing this and what you've been through but don't be too hard on yourself. We need to accept that we will occasionally "slip". We get back up and continue. You're doing a great job. Concentrate on all the good things you've done and keep up the good work.

Did you keep your surgery a secret?

I told my close friends and immediate family. I was very insecure about my decision and needed their support and i did get a lot of it. I didn't intend to tell anyone else but my mum was terrified and told anyone who would listen so now everyone knows but it's ok. I haven't had any negative commets at all. Who are these people who know everyone who has gained back weight? From all the people I know who have had surgery only one has gained back at bit of weight - she lost 150lbs and gained back 10! So what? She's still 140 down and healthier and prettier than ever 8 years post op. So far I have not met one person to tell me that (s)he has regretted having surgery Anyway what you do is your own business. if you want to tell people tell them - if you want to keep it to yourself than do that. and if people are being negative just ignore them. They're probably just being bitter because they've never accomplished anything in their life and they can't accept the fact that other people can take their fate into their own hands. Good luck

    I'm embarrassed...

I am much heavier and much older than you and besides my huge body i am also struggling with arthritis and basically i needed help from the trainers to even get on and off some of the machines. so when i started off at the gym i naturally felt like you and thought everyone would be laughing at me - they did so in the street after all and their i wasn't dressed in thight-fitting gym clothes ( you see they don't really come out in my size). But i have to tell you that in fact my experience was very different. I have made tons of new friends. People are coming up to me all the time and telling me how much they admire me for having the courage to try so hard. This has motiveted me so much. If i miss practice at least 5 or 6 people will ask me what happened. i feel that if i give up i'll be letting them all down. But since i suppose not all gyms are like that if you have a few options in your area i would ask them if they can let you go in a couple of times as a "guest" before you enroll. Most gyms do that. That way you will see if the atmosphere is suited to you - if the trainers care and if they have the knowledge to deal with people like us and how the other members behave towards you - before committing to a full year membership. good luck - let us know how it goes
  10. I won't miss: 1. not having the energy to get out of bed in the morning 2. sleep apnea 3. people looking at me with pity 4. or worse - when they say "you have such a pretty face ..." 5. complete strangers stopping me in the street to ask about my medical condition 6. relying on others to do the shopping for me because I can't walk the 4 blocks to the grocery store 7. needing help to get on and off buses 8. people offering me their seats in public transport like they would for senior citizens 9. not wearing socks because i can't bend down enough to put them on 10. being turned down at job interviews although i have more than enough qualifications. and everything everyone else wrote. the list is endless

    Hurts to drink

take very small sips and make sure it's not too cold or too warm. Room temperature is best for the first couple of weeks.

    Hurts to drink

it's too early. It will get better very quickly but if it's not better in the next couple of days or if it's really painful talk to your doctor. For me it was uncomfortable but not very painful.

Does the sleeve make food a non issue?

For me it has worked - so far at least. i do get hungry but with just a cracker and a slice of low-fat cheese I'm fine. I don't crave sweet things anymore - and i used to be an addict. Actually when i tried eating some dessert it felt too sweety almost disgustingly so. and that goes even for comercial juices. So yeah, i eat healthier and that is the only kind of food i want. I also don't care for coffee and I used to be addicted to that too. My whole sense of taste has changed for the better.
