I was sleeved june 22. I eat almost everything just very little of it. The only thing I'm having trouble with is milk, rice and fresh salads. I can eat most cooked veggies however. I even had pizza but only one slice at a time and the other day we went for hamburgers but i could only manage half of the childrens' size. i find that sweets don't taste very good any more so I make my own using apples and bananas and blueberries instead of sugar. I find this gives them the right amount of sweetness although everyone else complains that my cakes are not sweet. They're perfect for me. I had a lot of nausea too and vomiting. My doc explained that i need to eat slowly. I thought i was but i was apparently wrong. now I chew each bite at least 30-40 times and wait 2-3 minutes to take the next bite. That took care of the nausea for me. So on a typical day i have yogurt and fruit in the morning, small snacks of cheese and rusks or penaut butter every 2-3 hours and a supper with protein ( meat, chicken or fish) in the evening with veggies.

You don't mention how early on you are. Some nausea and discomfort are natural at the beginning but you shouldn't be experiencing any extreme discomfort. Anything that makes you feel really sick or in pain you should report to your doctor immediately. Have you tried a variety of foods? You will find that you don't like the same things any more and some foods that you used to love may be revolting. I loved sweet stuff - especially cookies and pastries, Now anything with sugar just tastes disgusting to me. Try things like yogurt and jello but if it persists do call your doctor

Don't you hate when doctors blame everything on your weight?
Vickybli replied to Disabledaccount's topic in Rants & Raves
All the time. I suffer from RA but whenever I go to a doctor it;s always my weight to blame. One even told me - when I said I had trouble walking - that I didn;'t deserve to walk since I was so fat. My sister on the other hand who's only 137 lbs went to the same doctor with the same symptoms and he ordered a whole bunch of tests to determine the cause. Me, i didn't even get a physical let alone lab tests. This behaviour should be included in the law against racismThere is a lot more to racism than just skin colour. We should be able to sue these people -
So, I consider myself fairly tolerant of stupid people (or I mask it well), but...
Vickybli replied to LipstickLady's topic in Rants & Raves
The things people say without realising they are being offensive - it;s amazing. Once the secretary at the school I used to work told me that EVERYONE was amazed at how well I dressed and that all my clothes matched!!! She said that I had great taste for a fat person - and she actually did mean it as a compliment. I smiled and explained that a high precentage of body fat does not usually interfere with a person eyesight and that people who are overweight do not have bad taste - just a much harder time finding affordable clothes that suit them. Then I asked her if she thought that if I ever managed to lose a lot of weight that I would lose my sense of decency along with it and become as ignorant and rude as the rest of them. She never made another comment to me. In fact I think she was afraid to speak to me at all for a while. -
You are beautiful. You were beautiful before too. You are just a healthier and more confident beautiful woman now and an inspiration to all of us. Congradulations

Have you thought about changing you NUT. She doesn't seem like a very responsible person. Mine have me running tests every 2 months for all sorts of vitamins to catch a deficiency before it can cause any real damage. Hope you feel better real soon.

we all felt like that. It's a big decision. I kept putting off for years and waited till I finally had no other option. I was so heavy I could barely get out of bed and my husband had to drive me everywhere - I couldn't even walk a couple of blocks. Don't wait that long the surgery is much more difficult and more risky then. You'll have doubts but just think about how important being thin and healthy is for you. If we could do it without help we would have done it year ago, wouldn't we? Good luck with your surgery - you;ll be in my prayers. Keep in mind that the first few weeks will be a little rough but before you know it everything will be much easier and you;ll be regretting not having done it sooner. I'm only 4 months out and I can move and walk and exercise so much better already. Let us know how your surgery goes.

9 Weeks Post-Op & Muscle Loss Question
Vickybli replied to Mkak's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
They should be able to messure your body fat and lean muscle at your gym. Anyway some muscle loss is inevitable when you lose so much weight. The only way to minimise this is by eating enough protein - if you don't your body will just use your own - and to do strength training, which you are already doing so you're on a good track. By the way you're looking great. Keep up the good work. -
How Many Days In The Hospital After Surgery
Vickybli replied to Bryan_G's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You're up and walking in a matter of hours. Definetly the same day. -
I have the same problem - tired all the time. My NUT gave me an iron supplement which also contains folic acid to help absortion and told me to take it on an empty stomach with 1 gram of vitamin C. Also make sure that when you eat iron rich foods like eggs and red meat you don't eat any dairy with them because it prevents absortion - unfortunately that means no cheese in your omlete

How Many Days In The Hospital After Surgery
Vickybli replied to Bryan_G's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
6 days - 5 in icu. not necessary - just a precautionary messure because i was so obesse -
I wouldn't try coffee just yet. You don't want anything that may aggravate your sensitive stomach and even potentially cause a leak. You'll be able to enjoy the real stuff soon enough.

I'm 3 months post-op and my hair started falling out in handfuls about a month ago. I never drank protein shakes. I live in Greece and docs here don't recommend them. They want us getting our protein from our food. I get about 400-500 calories a day. I started taking collagen however and the hair loss decreased considerably - I even had some new hair coming out. I hope this continues because I never had much hair to begin with

That sounds like hypogycemia - low blood sugar- from not eating enough. Try some fruit juice or some yogurt and call your NUT to tell you what you should be eating.

5 1/2 weeks Post-Op update and Struggles
Vickybli replied to Robert Angel's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I love cooking and i've got tons of recipies for just about anything. Tell me what kind of food you like and I can send you some. Just about any recipie can be made healthy by the way. For example if a recipie calls for frying vegetables you can just spray them with olive oil, stick them under the grill and get the same effect. A good source of recipies that are low carb, low calorie and dead easy to make is www.everydaydiabeticrecipes.com. Generally any site for diabetics has great recipies that are just as good for us. -
I suffer from RA too and i haven't seen any difference in the pain but i am a little less stiff so walking is easier but not stairs ans things like that. Actually last week i had an extremely painful attack of gout arthritis, which i never had before. My dr said that quick weight loss can bring it on. So much for not hurting. My sister and my best friend both suffer from RA as well and they've never been one pound overweight in their life. So i guess it's just not realistic to expect that it will go away just because we lose weight but i'm sure that it will be more manageable since we will take off some of the stress at least. I mean they hurt but they can still walk around and go about their chores. At 451lbs when i had an attack i could barely move around the house without help. Talk to your dr about your exersice routine. Although working out is very good for you on many levels the wrong kind or the wrong intensity can be bad for your RA. I'm not allowed on the treadmill of the step master. My friend was told to stay away from the bikes. Hope you feel better again soon.

Combatting Food Addiction...
Vickybli replied to byjenna's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i had the exact same fears pro-op in fact it kept me from having the surgery for years. Now 3 months out i find that it's not an issue. I know I'll probably face it again some time in the future but for now i'm not craving anything. i was a desserts person and had something sweet every single day. Now i find my sense of taste has changed and sweets just dont taste very good anymore. I know it's not the same for everybody but this is something you don't do alone. Your NUT will help a lot and there should be a therapist on your doctor's team who will also help. In my doctor's team there is a surgeon, an endocrinologist, a nutritionist and a psyciatrist and i am required to see each of them at least once every two months. Also there are lots of support groups or even forums like this where you can find someone at any time of the day or night. So as long as you really want it you'll be able to do it. It;s not always easy but you can - and will. You've already mada a great start. Good luck with the surgery. -
Do you ever feel "normal" again?
Vickybli replied to coopspa's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i'm three months post op and there hasn't been a day i;m not thinking about my eating constantly but i've had 50 years of wrong choices, yo-yo dieting and binge eating, isn't it natural that it will take some time to get used to making the right choices? but it looks harder than it really is. without the constant feeling of hunger you can make better choices. i'm sure that once we reach our goals and we level out everything will start to come more naturally. A friend of mine - 8 years post op - told me she doesn't need to think about her eating but she still needs to watch out for her trigger points - in her case alcohol. I guess there's still no fix for emotional eating (or drinking). Good luck with your surgery and i'm sure you'll do whatever you need to. -
I geel like I can eat too much...opinions
Vickybli replied to 1sunnuri's topic in Food and Nutrition
That does seem like a lot. I can't eat more than 1/3 cup of anything without the crackers and i don't think i'd be able to eat chilli anyway. Talk to your doctor he'll tell you if there is something to worry about. i've been tracking and i only get about 400-500 calories a day. but still 700 calories is not enough to gain weight on. it must be something else. maybe just retaining water for some reason. i'm sure you;ll start losing again soon. -
Hellllllllllp..........
Vickybli replied to esv2000's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Νοτ all people lose at the same rate. Other people's stats are there for encouragement not to freak you out. I l ost quite a bit of weight the first month but i started out at a VERY high number and that does make a difference. No two people are same. However you know you shouldn't be eating sweets. Haven't you had your first post-op yet? Your NUT will tell you what the right food for you is. What mine told me was that i could eat basically anything except sugar. i am allowed one dessert per week. i should eat very small quantities every 2 hours and protein at every meal. I never took the shakes. I get my protein from yogurt, low-fat cheese, fish and nuts Make sure you get lots of liquids and if you cant exercise try to at least walk. Hang in there, you WILL lose the weight. 35pounds is not a small amount especially for someone who's been "cheating". -
What happens if i follow all the rules?
Vickybli replied to readyforchange101013's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Every surgery has some risks but if you choose an experienced surgeon and follow their guidelines carefully these are very small. The risks of obessity are much higher. That is as far as major complications are concerned smaller complication are very common and have happened to everyone i know. i have been very careful about following the rules but still - nausea, vomiting, diarrea - i get them all. but i'm told these will soon pass -
After VSG, what is something you have to help you feel human!
Vickybli replied to kim2002's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
at that stage what i loved to have was peanut butter (only smooth allowed) and unsweetened applesauce which i made myself. Hang in there you'll soon have a lot more options
