23 weeks pregnant after gastric bypass
AshleyMidwife replied to lovelylaya941's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
You should be getting full nutrition blood panels very trimester and DO NOT do the glycols test. Drinking that much glucose will likely give you bad dumping. There are other ways to determine GDM. Talk to your doctor. -
6 weeks pregnant and no appetite
AshleyMidwife replied to jenns08's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
For women who have had Bariatric surgery and for those who have not, the first trimester can be super difficult due to nausea. Our restriction causes another level of complexity here. In your first trimester, protein is the MOST important. Getting adequate protein can prevent many complications in pregnancy (preeclampsia, placental problems, etc). And the first trimester is when our babies are building all the essential groundwork for organ systems, etc. protein is super important in placenta formation as well. So if you're not able to eat much due to nausea and/or restriction, protein shakes as often as possible are your best bet! There are dissolvable tablets (zofran) that your doctor can prescribe to help, or a b6 tab with over the counter unisom at night can also be effective. -

Tall Women, Tell Me Your Story!
AshleyMidwife replied to AshleyMidwife's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Good luck lady! You'll do great! Best advice I can give you is to read as much as you can! Be super informed before your surgery. And be patient! Everyone loses at their own pace and you have an entire lifetime to work your sleeve. Good luck and let me know how I can help! (I am 7 months out from surgery) Ashley -
Bought this t-shirt last summer at the NKOTB concert, as a "goal shirt." Thought I'd try it on today just to see how much further I had to go.... And look at that! It fit! HW 297, SW 287, CW 225 DOS 12/9/13

More progress pictures. Before and 70 lbs later.

Exercise has been hard or me to incorporate too. Need to get moving on a regular basis! I'm an active person in general, but not formal exercise routine yet.
-
I'm 5'10". Goal is just to be below 200lbs. We'll see where I land after that. Good work woman!

Loss has been really slow. I am at 70lbs lost now. That's me on the left. Although the scale is moving at snail's pace, feeling like my body feel smaller. I am five and a half month out. No restrictions on food and now need to get a routine for working out. It's not routine yet, kind of sporadic. It's a process! But ultimately so glad I did this and feeling amazing HW 297, SW 287, CW 227. Date of surgery dec 9, 2013.

Coffee and caffeine
AshleyMidwife replied to menjaz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon never said NO coffee. He is ok with 1-2 cups per day, as long as it's not full of sugar and fat. I am 4 and a half months out and drink coffee pretty regularly. You wanna wait until your tiny tummy is healed though, because coffee is pretty acidic and can cause heartburn and/or ulcers. Talk to your surgeon! -
Share your "slow loss" success!
AshleyMidwife replied to clk's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Awesome woman! It doesn't matter how we get there or how long it takes, as long as we feel good about the journey and are our healthiest selves!! Feel good about what you've accomplished. There are tons of people out there with this same journey and they need to know we all have different journeys and each one is a change for the better! I had my surgery dec 9, 2013 and lost 30lbs month 1. It's been much slower since then. I have lost a total of 66lbs and am now almost 5 months out. I have approx 50 lbs until goal. Working on exercising more (it's been a struggle) and that always kicks up my loss. I think about this as a lifestyle and am ok with slow loss. Congrats on all you've achieved! -
I love pizza too! I just eat the toppings now. I'm 4 months out. It can be a slippery slope! But even though I know I can't eat pizza like I did before, I like that I can occasionally get the taste of it. Still got live life right?!

I'm not single, but have had this thought over the years when I've lost significant weight (then gained it back). I think if you find someone you really enjoy and can trust with the information about your past self and surgery, if they can accept that and love you even more for it, then hang onto that person! You can't expect someone to love you for who you used to be. You weren't happy with the person either remember. This is you chance to reinvent yourself. You want someone who loves you for who you are! Not who you were. I think though that if they can't accept your journey, you might reconsider. Love who you are and work it!!!
