Oh wow that's great, so your not too far behind me. Did you have to do a six month supervised diet? What's ur next step?
-
I'm having it done at Depaul Dr. Morales
-
Congratulations, I'm so excited for you!!!!!!!

I've been telling everyone, and sometimes I regret it, because negative energy is not what I need right now. But I'm so excited about this and want to share my joy with those around me. I hate the fact that people don't understand how necessary this is.

I started the process in August. My insurance required me to do a supervised six month diet which ended last week, so now I'm just waiting to hear back from the insurance co.
-
Yeah I've been without insurance for almost three years,my employer didn't offer insurance and with no SERIOUS health problems, I looked up and three years just flew by. But I just left my last PCP office(from 3 yrs ago) and they faxed my weight history along with my sleep apnea diagnosis. But I'm still worried

My paper work will finally be submitted on the 27th, but there is one issue that I am worried about. My coordinator at the bariatric center called and told me that I have to write a letter to my insurance company explaining why I don't have a five year weight history on record. So I wrote a letter basically saying that I haven't had health insurance in the past few years, because my salary was too much to apply for Medicaid and too little to receive adequate health care, therefore leaving me unable to create a five year trail of my weight history. Now I'm super nervous have anyone ever had problems with your insurance co. because of a lack of weight history.

My insurance company required that I completed a 6 month supervised diet program with a physician or dietitian.
-
I just might start my pre-op diet the day after my birthday, my sister just called and asked where are we going for my B-day. Usally I'll say it doesn't matter, but now... I have to go out in style LOL

Officially approved!
Sofficial replied to nnegrete329's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congratulations! How long did it take for the approval -
For any Dr. Morales patients. How fast did the process go to get your surgery date after meeting with him and what steps did you have to take? Because I'm looking through this green binder and according to the checklist it looks like they're gonna put me on the liquid diet before my insurance request and that can't be right. I must be reading into it wrong.

Hello Jashantee, I am in same stage as you of the 6 months required diet & documentation for insurance purposes and I will be going to DePaul to Dr.Morales. Who are seeing for you diet? I am working with a dietician / nutritionist through SSM , but I think it's a pure waste of time . Hi MzGee I am meeting with the dietitian at SSM too. My last appt and surgeon consult is on 1/17, I'm so excited. What step are you in now?

Issues with Patient Advocate at Bariatric Center
Sofficial posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've noticed that mostly every one who had to do a 3-6 month supervised diet, their info was sent to the insurance co a couple days later. Well not me, I still have not met my surgeon, I'm scheduled to have an consult with him on 1/17 and that's also the date of my last supervised diet visit. I knew it was strange when I didn't consult with him in Dec so I called my advocate and she told me that they prefer for me to not consult with him until AFTER my insurance was approved. The other day I called her to ask a simple question about my insurance and from that we went in to discussing my up coming apps, then she said you will have your surgeon consult on 1/17 and when your done with that he will scheduled your endoscopy because that have to be done before we can submit your info to the insurance co. Wait WHAT!?!? So you're telling me that I have to wait even longer to submit my info to the insurance co, when all of this could have been done last month when I called you. So all of this is going to push me at least two weeks back -
Issues with Patient Advocate at Bariatric Center
Sofficial replied to Sofficial's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was luckily enough that I knew who my surgeon was so when they made my appointment they also got me an appointment the same afternoon with the dr who was doing the endoscopy. I was scheduled the very next morning to have the endoscopy and my surgery was the very next Monday. Best of luck to you. Wow talk about fast!! That's good to know that the endoscopy shouldn't slow me down too much (hopefully). I know my process isn't going to be as fast as yours, I still have to wait on them to submit everything to my insurance, But yeah Cupcake's right talk about encouragement. -
Kids, fear and what to say!
Sofficial replied to hmjdreamingbig's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have three kids myself (6,8,&11). My children had the same concerns, but after seeing how excited I am, it started to make them believe that this is a good thing and now they have little to no worries. They feed off our energy and reactions, even if your worried don't let her see it. Maybe you can all of the success stories an this site and how ALL of these people came out of surgery just fine and while it is possible that something could go wrong however the chances of anything happening to you are very, very low. Best of luck -

Cupcake So you're completely done, just waiting to meet with the surgeon and get your date. Hopefully your surgery date won't be too far from your meeting. -
Issues with Patient Advocate at Bariatric Center
Sofficial replied to Sofficial's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeah I know, I'm getting antsy too. I need to calm down. It's just that I thought I was done with everything with the exception of the final dietitian meeting and surgeon visit, then they hit me with this endoscopy thing out of the blue, but it's cool no matter what I'm still getting closer to starting my new life. -

Oh maybe that's what's going on, but I didn't know that they needed approval just to meet with the surgeon. But she also told me that I had to meet with the surgeon in order to get the approval from my insurance. When is your last month for your 6 month weight management?
