New guy here just banded on Tuesday
kermit replied to wclark1215's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hello and congrats on the band! Was banded 27 July and have lost about 8lbs....restriction tends to go so don't worry about that. I am really looking forward to my first fill just to get that feeling of restriction back - I was losing until my pouch turned into the grand canyon almost over night last week! I have been heartened by some of the posters here though - apparently the weight loss can slow for a few weeks until the 'sweet spot' is attained through one or more fills. Good luck on the journey and remember to check in on the forum - it is a life saver when you feel down or confused! -
hi Alesha - that is GREAT news about the weight loss! You have started the journey and it is going to be so cool to watch the ticker move in the right direction! good luck and keep it up Girl - you are obviously on the right road!

Hi Alesha - yes my restriction is going too - I did feel a little bit bloated but I found that stuff with gluten makes me soak up the water big time so my belly bloats. Have a great time on holidays and don't worry about the bloat - think to yourself that this is the last holiday to ever feel that way! I went to Spain in June and swore that this was the last holiday I would go on with the airplane belt digging in and using my husband's tray because mine wouldn't go down! I'm another pound up today but reading other posts makes me feel ok because I have obviously not hit the sweet spot yet. My appt with Jerome is the 22 Aug. Can't wait to get back to feeling full on half cup of soup! It is my own fault because I have broken the rules and am eating sweets.....but I hope to be back on the wagon asap. Enjoy the hols!

Thanks Allure - feel a bit better that others have been in the same boat. It is great to hear that you can get another 2 mls in the band if you need it - maybe half a ml is all it will take to hit the jackpot restriction you need. Now that I think on it - Jerome did mention to me that it is possible to lose weight on the stomach itself so maybe you have lost loads inside and out! It is fabulous the way you are positive and upbeat about the band - I will remember your example when I am losing faith in it every now and again. Good luck with it, Girl, and hope you get to pump her up this week ! :biggrin1:

Hi Debb and welcome to the site. I remember waiting to meet Jerome myself and feeling very nervous. It is difficult to hand over ten thousand big ones but for me it was the last alternative. I hope you find the very best path for yourself and that all goes well. Good Luck!

hi Allure I am banded 10 days now and I was very restricted for the first six or seven....but now I don't have the 'full' signal on the same amount of food. I am worried because I had lost 8lbs in the first week but this has slowed and I am 2 lbs up again! I can eat two weetabix with milk for brekkie now no problem whereas in the first few days it was half a weetabix and I felt the warning high up in my chest that enough was enough. It sounds from other posts that this is normal until the fills start. It does sound, though, as if your band isn't doing the job for you at the moment. You must be thrilled at losing the 2.5 stone - great work! And I say that because it has been hellish, hard work off your own back - not the band. :whoo: Is 5ml the limit or can you ask for more? Good luck and well done again!

hi guys Thanks a million for the encouragement Coco! Great to meet you and the others, Alesha. I can't believe how quickly it was done.....found the after effects of the general anaesthetic a bit of a trip but I feel lucky to be pretty pain free. The staff were fantastic and the other patients were lovely too. There was a great feeling of joviality around the place this morning. It was really cool to meet a lady who was being re-banded - 4 stone lighter! Hope I can have successful results and look that great in the months to come. Dini, Allure and Coco - Hope your bandster meeting went well!

hi Alesha I know how you feel - I am getting my band the same day in Owenstown Clinic! I don't know which is worse - the nerves over the operation or the thought of them sending me home bandless because the moon is in Jupiter or something. And I am trying not to smoke before the general anaesthetic which only leaves one other crutch - food. Anyway - hope to meet you there, Alesha. I will have blue stripy pyjamas and neglected highlights. I have to check in at twelve. I have been reading posts from bandsters in other places who advocate liquid only diets a fortnight before the op. Anyone from ACS gang told to diet before the op?

Best of Luck Coco Thinking of you today and fingers crossed it will go ok

hi all! Thanks a million for the lovely welcome. It is great to hear all the varying experiences- sounds like no two people have the exact same relationship with their band. Coco - so sorry to read about the slippage. To face a hurdle so soon in the journey is a bummer but I hope the rest is plain sailing for you. It always picks me up to think that all the best stories in life have a twist - Girl meets band, girl loves band, band is errant but soon realises error of its ways and wins girl back. Cue happy ever after and blazing sunset! Think Casabanda or Gone with the Band! (maybe with Dr. Jerome as Rhett Butler...) What's the famous line Vivien Leigh says holding a carrot aloft? "As God is my witness - I will never go hungry again!" Good luck and happy thoughts to you, Kermit

hello all I have been lurking for a while now, enjoying all your stories and getting more and more excited about my op. I paid my deposit today and I have my blood tests on Thurs with a tentative op date of July 27th. Dr. Jerome is banding me and he was very good to talk to at the consultation. Just wondered if anyone else was terrified of this 'last resort' failing? I have had so many failed attempts at weightwatchers and Atkins etc that it is very hard to work up a bit of hope again. I am not doing this to be thin per se- I have been big since puberty so have never experienced feeling attractive in that way. My goal is to lose enough weight to have a healthy pregnancy. (I am "hovering" :faint:at about 300lbs) I joke to my husband that I am getting my 'eternity ring' before the baby comes at all! Anyone else in the same boat? Kermit
