  1. Has anyone used Specialized Bariatrics? I have a sleeve scheduled 21 January at Mi Doctor Hospital in Tijuana. I know he used to be with a lighter me, and then he and his wife opened Specialized Bariatrics this summer. Just wondering how it went for anyone who has used them. I need to start looking at when I need to do the preop prep as well.... thanks all!
  2. Hi, I am in eastern Cincinnati, and I was sleeved 21 Jan 2014 in Mexico. I would certainly be interested in a meeting, and would help if needed. I have lost about 45 lbs or so, was 218 at the surgery and am at 170 now. The support would be much appreciated!~
  3. This is a fantastic idea! Certainly I would be interested in joining. Not too sure about being a leader or even a co leader, but if I absolutley had to, I would until another was found. I would not limit the number of people per chapter. Odds of everyone showing up all the time, after the first meeting, would be low. It would be wonderful if agendas were offered.

    Sleeve size? new/post op

I had no problem with the liquids either. I can drink quite a bit. However, now that I am on mushy foods, I can really tell my stomach is small.
  5. I had this problem on my preop diet. For dinner I started having a small salad with Protein in it. It helped.
  6. I flew in from Cincinnati to San Diego today. Victor met me at the airport and brought me to the Marriott. Raul met me at the Marriott and helped me get checked in and then I went up to my room. It's a nice room, two double beds and the Wi-Fi and Internet is free, The bathroom smells a little musty but I'm wondering if it's just the water. The room is clean and maybe a little older but it's fine. Everyone seems to be very nice so far. I check out tomorrow morning and Raul will pick me up at 10 minutes till 10 to take me to Mi doctor hospital. I have some more paperwork I need to fill out this evening and I ask why I needed to do more paperwork since I had already done so much. He said this paperwork was for the hospital. So I would think I will be sleeved tomorrow afternoon. I ask Raul and he said the first operation scheduled was for 9 o'clock tomorrow morning. Looking forward to being a healthier me. I did take some photos of the room and I will post them when I get back home. I did find out that my Kindle fire will not support my mail so I am using my smartphone right now and that seems to be doing well.my doctor is Alejandro Lopez.

  9. I am getting sleeved on the 21st of this month by Dr. alejandro lopez at MI Doctor Hospital. What items should I bring? I know to bring my c-pap machine, Cathy said there is a large fee per night if I need to rent one from the hospital. I know to bring meds in the original rx bottles. Would someone give me an idea of what I need? Starting from how many changes of clothes, to pjs or nightgown, toiletries, do I need to bring my own washcloth, scrungee, etc? When I travel to Europe I always bring my own scrungee, because is many places the washcloth is non-existant. Houseshoes? I have read gas-x, extra extension cords, etc.I could not find a list on the site of what might be needed, any input appreicated. Thanks!
  10. Thanks for the replies. I have my preop info and will start on the 6th. Cathy has been wonderful with the information, and all the info I found before on Dr. Lopez was really good, too. That is why I chose him. As it is getting closer I am getting a little nervous..... LOL.. my family is concerned I am going alone to Mexico, I am comfortable traveling internationally, but they are not comfortable with me being alone. I don't know what having any of them with me would do, they don't speak the language...smile.

  15. I have been looking for about 6 months and talked with many medical liasons and decided on Specialized Bariatrics, Inc. Dr. alejandro lopez. One of the reasons I choose him was the amount of bariatric surgeries he had performed. His price was important, as well, but not the deciding factor. All of the medical liasons (except for 1) were very helpful and well informed. One, however, gave me some frightening information about what medications I should stop taking 10 days before the surgery, she said the doctor said to discontinue my generic prozac .fluoxetine. I can understand not taking a baby aspirin, or a blood thinner, but not this. I asked my primary care and she said NOT to discontinue it. I know that to stop taking this antidepressant without stepping it down is dangerous. It is a slow build up in the system, and if one wants to discontinue, should be a slow process with the medication amount being lowered over a period of time. I read numerous reviews, researched a couple of different doctors and facilities. I am comfortable choosing Hospital MI Doctor, I wanted a real hospital and not a clinic. I leave on the 20th of January and get sleeved on the 21st. So, if anyone wants to be a sleeve buddy, let me know!
  16. Hello I am going to be sleeved in Mexico at the beginning of next year, I have to renew my passport first. My dilemma is choosing what hospital and dr to use. I understand there are so many choices and I do want to be wise with my funds, as I am paying from my savings. However, I do not want to overpay, not do I want to underpay if that means I will not get good results...I will certainly be going outside the US for this procedure as my health insurance will not cover it. My BMI is 42 and I am about 100 lbs overweight. At first I thought I would just be banded but it appears that many people who get banded later get surgery. A bit about me, I found out in June of this year my position was being deleted after 28 years, I was offered a severance and my job was to end for good Aug 1 of this year. July 20th my husband had a massive heart attack and died. Everything seemed to happen so fast, but I think I have most things better under control. I will not start looking for new employment before February and I want to use this time to get healthier. I would really appreciate any feedback on going to Mexico. Thanks so very much Bren

Wonderful! I plan on going to Mexico this year, or beginning of next. Have to renew my passport. I love all the positivity (is that a word) on this board!
