Tears of Frustration....
DangerousD replied to Jerzygurl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You should be proud of yourself! You stood up for yourself and worked out another way to get approval. Way to go! -
Prayers sent. My mother had the same operation and is now 5 years cancer free. She is alive now and ornery as ever.

Have you met the people in Alaska? Some might take you up on it and think living in a skin tent would be cool! My girlfriend lived there during the 90s when there were many more single men there than single women. As she pointed out, there is a reason all these men were single. Just kidding! For the most part, people there are very nice, just quirky.

Waiting is the hardest part....
DangerousD commented on FitnFabfor2014's blog entry in FitnFabfor2014's Blog
I am right there with you. I have all my stuff submitted and am awaiting a decision. These last few months have taught me how to eat better and have gotten me motivated to start working out, so I am on my way regardless. But I am so frustrated not knowing. You are not alone! -
Thoughts and prayers are with you. You will do great!

I am in the same boat. I have been buying protein shake samples and everything and then realized I might not get approved. So, I stopped doing that. I also have to admit I have been on edge and been grumpy with my family because of the stress of waiting. I look at Plan B which would be to try to do it on my own again. I actually have been doing better on the pre-op diet and exercise then I ever have, so I am trying to be optimistic about being able to do it. At this point, I just want to know one way or another.

So, everything is submitted. (The doctor called back and I checked with the insurance.) Now, all I do is wait. The insurance coordinator has upped how many days it takes to hear back from 10 to 14 business days to 15 to 30 days. ARGH! Also, since October is booked, it looks like it will be November at the earliest. Taking a deep breath and waiting to see. Please tell me that this time just flew by for everyone.

Small Rant on Doctor Not Having Enough Staff
DangerousD posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would like to preface this with knowing I don't have much patience. However, right now I am so frustrated. I finally finished the last class that the doctor's office required of me. It was taught by my original dietitian. She said to call the insurance coordinator. I did that today and received a message that she only works MWF. What the...?! Keep in mind, every time I have gone to the doctor's office, it is busy with patients and there is always an hour wait at least. Also, when you call the insurance coordinator, you get a message about how she is really busy and not to leave multiple messages. If she is that busy, why don't they hire someone else to come in, or at the minimum, have her work 5 days a week???! I am not expecting to be approved tomorrow and realize there is a wait. However, if they require me to go to all these classes and pay for them, it would be nice to have someone actually there to submit my claim. I know I am being a little snarky, but I am trying to get the surgery done by the end of the year to avoid paying another $5k deductible, And once it is approved, I don't know how long before they can schedule surgery. Even when I have asked them point blank how long it takes to schedule surgery once approved, they said it would depend, and wouldn't even give me a ball park estimate. I am just so frustrated right now! Am I the only one that finds this whole process frustrating??! -

Small Rant on Doctor Not Having Enough Staff
DangerousD replied to DangerousD's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks guys for letting me vent. And I know I am lucky, MNMema to have surgery covered. It is just sometimes I feel like a trained poodle, jumping through hoops, and not even getting a bleeping treat. -
Congrats on your approval!

I have Aetna and after the last class tomorrow that is required by my doctor, it will be submitted and then will be a waiting game. Have you heard anything yet?

Sept 24 surgery date. or as Mom puts it, the day I lose my "funny"
DangerousD replied to JanetPRN's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
"What did Noah say when the last animal entered the arc?" "Now, I've HERD everything." Ok, bad joke, but I tried. Seriously, you know you better than everyone else and you know what will work and what won't. Trust yourself. You are trying to change your life for the better. Congrats on being two days out! Good thoughts sent your way. And I hope the melancholy goes away with the pounds that you will lose! -
I think everyone is different. My doctor told me that I would have to wait 4 weeks to go back to the gym and 6 weeks to go back to swimming. Check with your surgeon's office to make sure.

Thank you for sharing your experience. I have a low pain threshold as well and am worried about that. Let us know how you are doing and when you feel better?

Tomorrow, I plan on participating in the largest chicken dance in the world. It is Zinzinnati Oktoberfest here in Cincinnati, and George Takei will be leading it. I am not sure how much exercise it will be, but I hope to have fun. I plan on taking some jerky and grapes as snacks and avoiding the high carb fare they have there. Luckily, I am not a beer fan, so won't miss that. Wish me luck!

Decision Confirmed!
DangerousD replied to FitnFabfor2014's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine was a test coming back pre-diabetic. Scared the beejeezus out of me. I had gotten used to all the other problems with being overweight, such as worrying if Southwest will kick me off the plane, not being able to stand more than 20 minutes, and feeling embarrassed when running into people I knew from high school. I thought, "Ok, this is my reality. I will just have to live with such things." However, the idea that I would have to live with diabetes was too much and got me off my rear and started me on my journey. -
Have you ever had the headaches when you drank or used other artificial sweeteners? I know someone in my class was allergic to aspartame, so she couldn't use the same type of beverages that we did. She said aspertame gave her headaches. Regardless, I hope you feel better soon and figure out what is wrong.

Things I will NOT miss about being fat.
DangerousD replied to unbesleevable1's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Two things not already mentioned for me is: 1. Avoiding looking at windows or doors as you walk in to avoid seeing how you really look. 2. Not being able to know how much you weigh because the average scale doesn't go that high. (This includes Wii Fit. Yes, how to make people who need to exercise feel even worse about themselves. Argh!) -
You do look great! Good job!

Can I have milk on pre-op diet?
DangerousD replied to jlw1324's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It depends on what your doctor has said. My doctor said that I can have skim or 1% milk on my full liquid diet. Check with your dietitian to make sure. -
Ok, granted, it is 299.4, but I am so taking it! I haven't weighed less since 2007! Yeehaw! Though not sleeved yet, I have been on a 1500 calorie diet, eating relatively healthy most days and working out every day. I am on my way. Two more classes, one today and one next Monday, and then my case will be submitted to the insurance for approval. Fingers crossed on that one. And though I was only going to count the weight on the scale on Friday, I was too excited! I am now doing the gopher dance from "CaddyShack." "I'm all right, don't nobody worry about me...."

Prayers sent your way.
