Wow I did not know this. I guess I should look for alternatives.

Well thank you for the responses! I got the impression that it broke down the stomach or caused severe damage to the stomach. I definitely don't want to make it a habit and I don't like these cravings for soda but I'm glad to know I can have a little in the future if I want it.

Basically it allows excess air to get into your stomach and can give you gas. That is the only reason that I have heard and got from my research. It may not hit you instantly but rather later in the day. I am not advising you to drink it with a straw but if you talk to your surgeon at your next post OP appointment and you have no problems from it at all then maybe it just doesn't affect you like it can with others. I have seen some people on this site (and others) over the last few months from random browsing that always got major gas right before bedtime and traced it to using a straw. But we all tolerate things differently.

Pre-op verse Post-op protein shakes

If THEY gave you recipes then you are allowed to follow them and there is no problem there but if you are still unsure then just do the normal shakes and wait until Tuesday. -
Pre-op verse Post-op protein shakes
MissErika replied to Brighteyes's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
It depends on the instructions your surgeon gave you. Originally, I was allowed 1 healthy meal (chicken, no skin and not cooked in butter, oil, etc with green veggies) and I was allowed 1 cup of fruit. The rest was shakes. Then they changed my plan to 100% shakes and nothing else because they moved my surgery up so I only had 1 week to shrink my liver. If you are allowed fruit then you should be allowed to mix it with your shakes but you must count it towards your daily limit. Yogurt - I doubt it but maybe unsweetened almond milk. Everybody has a different plan so just call the office and ask. But post OP you definitely won't be able to for a few weeks. -
Basically what everyone else says - log it/watch what you eat today and move forward. You can't change it and dwelling on it might trigger more frequent "cheats." Remember - you went through a lot of time, money and risk getting this surgery. Your body is healing and will continue to heal for months so treat it right with the instructions from your surgeon.

Hi there I went from a 24 to a 12 a few years ago (and gained it back plus a lot more...) but anyway. I had those same feelings when I lost weight the first time around but keep pictures of yourself before you lost the weight as a reminder. Another suggestion is to get wrist/ankle/body weights that people work out in and put on the amount you lost and try to walk around (do have someone with you when you do this, get a doctor's approval as well and make sure you a physical fit to do it!) but this will remind yourself how it feels to carry that extra weight. I wish I did that. Now I look at my old pictures and I just would do anything to go back to that size! Hopefully I will soon though, come on sleeve. lol Good luck on your journey and keep accomplishing goals - even NSV. Appreciate your victories, treat yourself to a new hair style or a massage and make sure you feel good about yourself. You will see it one day.

When were you able to lie on your side again?
MissErika replied to becslivinlife's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you have a comfortable couch (or semi comfortable and add lots of sheets and pillows!) that worked for me. When I got home I didn't even want to try to get into my bed because it's a bit high but I was able to sleep on the couch in a half back/half side position.. sounds weird but it was comfortable. It may work for you. -
Lets see...once for my endoscopy, second at a meeting and third the day of surgery!

I too am near your area and I had my surgery with Doctor Hollis (baychoice bariatrics) at memorial hermann - no complications yet and went home the next day! Of course I am just two weeks out but they have a great staff. I lost 36 so far including 1 week pre-op (they rushed it because my gallbladder was at 0% and I needed it removed) Good luck with your journey!!
