Have you ever slightly sped up your food stages?
Bkind2u replied to endless80's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well, while I do think everyone has a point, we are all different. I think the only thing u might have done different is ask your doctor first, since he/she seems to be available. I had surgery in Mexico and was given all of the post surgical eating plans and information in a handout. Mine said clear liquids 10 days post op. I followed the pre op diet, but by day 7 of post op I was shaking and had a headache, etc. after reading everything I can and researching I decided to start the protein shakes on day 8. I am now on day 9 and I feel great. I think for me that trusting myself and listening to my body is important. Of course, I am planning to continue to be vigilant with the overall plans and track my food and exercise on fitness pal, but sometimes your body is letting you know what t needs and maybe for you the cottage cheese was it. -
Morbidly Obese Toddler Undergoes Gastric Bypass Surgery
Bkind2u replied to A_New_Lily's topic in The Lounge
I worked in a Pediatric Clinic years ago. A boy was brought in for his exams in a stroller starting at babyhood. As he got older, he was still in the stroller and got bigger and bigger. The family was of either Arabic or East Indiab ethnicity. The father would not stop giving the child treats. The MD tried everything but the father wouldn't stop. He finally refused to continue care due to non compliance. I would hope that nowadays in the USA this would legally be considered child abuse and more could be done to help the innocent child. This is definitely child abuse in my book. -

I'm hungry too! I started on the shakes today because I was so shaky and weak. I feel 100% better. I also read that our stomach is shaped like a funnel, and that when we drink our nutrition it basically passes thru pretty quickly, but once we start eating preed food it will stay in our stomach longer waiting to fit thru the funnel, which will keep us full longer. I got a little worried about feeling hungry also, but since I hadn't had any real nutrition in 10 days (clear liquids 3 days preop and 7 days post op) I think my survival mode kicked in! Hopefully when actual food is introduced the hunger will go away... -
I went on you tube and watched video of people that had had PS after Bariatric surgery. There were some that were a year or so post op. I found it interesting to see how the scars were placed on the arm lift. The video I watched showed the subject raising her arms and moving them in different positions. The scars were placed so they only showed when she raised her arms up pretty high. She also said her surgeon went farther up into her axils because she had skin sag extending into there. You Tube seems to have everything!

You were beautiful before and you are beautiful AND heathy now. Congratulations on your great achievement! -
Hi, I'm 57 and was sleeved 6 days ago. My preop diet was 3 weeks of 2 shakes and 1 salad with protein on it each day. I then had a three day clear liquid diet then surgery. I was shocked to step on the scale on my surgery day and see I had lost 24 lbs! My salads had been humongous, went to the salad bar at whole foods and got 1 1/2 or 2 lb salad each day! After surgery I gained 8 lbs and am still up 3 or so, but I am so excited that I already feel pretty good and see being able to exercise and eat healthy and reach my goals ahead of me! I have been successful at losing so many times before but always gained it back plus more. I was afraid this would go really slow because of my age but now I think I will do fine. Good luck to everyone and keep writing in!

For those of you who've already been sleeved in TJ...
Bkind2u replied to Italiancurves's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I was sleeved there 5 days ago. On the morning after your surgery they come in and ask if you want to shower. There was soap provided and each room has its own attached bathroom with sink, toilet and shower. After your shower they will ask if you want to put your own clothes on or a clean gown. I brought a cotton, soft nightgown and a bathrobe and crocs for my feet and changed into these. The nurse will come in and change your dressings after the shower. Basically all you will care about is getting up to walk periodically, sucking on ice chips, and sleeping. I was VERY proactive in asking for the pain and nausea medications in my IV every time I woke up, as walking made me nauseated. Some people wished they had brought their own pillow because the pillows are very firm and the first night you cannot sleep on your side due to pain. I just slept without a pillow. I had my Gas X strips next to the bed and took them often. I brought an extension cord and kept my IPad plugged in on the tray table. The call button for the nurse is NOT the one on the side rail, it is a separate blue button attached by a blue cord. I brought a sippy cup for drinking water and this was useful mainly back at the Marriott. I also brought a hot beverage cup with lid Thad I used for the broth at the Marriott. Some people brought a heating pad, but I didn't and didn't need one. Basically, you feel like dog meat the first night and day, then on the second night you can sleep on your side and are much more comfortable and on the second day it gets better and better. The only dressing you will need to apply on your own is the one where they take out the drain right before you leave the hospital. They put one on you and give you a gauze packet but be sure to ask for the tape or snitch some. I only redressed it twice after showering and since it looked closed over and no blood ever showed up on the gauze I left it open after that. I hope this helps, and good luck! -
What is allowed on your liquid diet? Is it clear liquid or protein shakes?

6 days post-op...feeling weak!
Bkind2u replied to new_me_2013's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had the surg 9/11 and I am feeling tired and shaken today. My dr gave me a 10 day clear liquid diet post op, then can add 4 oz baby food day 11 thru 20. I am fine drinking the broth and juice and water and Gatorade, but my tummy is really sensitive and I have to eat SLowly. I read that someone started eating applesauce pouches but I am thinking I would be better off getting more protein. I tried the isopure pre op but didn't like it and don't thinking could keep it down. Any suggestions for day 11? Is anyone else eating baby food? -

Hi sleeve buddies, I just got back to the Marriott after my surgery. Here is my story, hope it helps anyone with the jitters! My surgery was 9/11 with Dr Ponce and it didn't start until 5:30pm. I was a little nervous waiting, but I walked around and found lots of friendly people in different stages of recovery. My surgery lasted longer than planned because they found and repaired a hiatal hernia. The first 24 hours are the worst. Everyone is different as to what discomforts they have, but it seems pretty universal that you feel awful, but pain meds and nausea meds are given regularly so that does help get you through. The second day is like night and day, I showered in the morning and put my own nightgown on, then walked and felt better and better through the day. I still got the regular medicine through the day, and an extra pain booster at night. The second night I could lay on my side which really helped. I had asked them to put off the leak test for a day because even sucking on ice chips made my stomach cramp up the first day. I had the test this morning and it was no problem at all. Now, 48 hors after surgery I am sipping my chicken broth at the hotel and feel about 75% of normal. The whole experience at the Marriott and the hospital Mi Doctor has been better than expected. Let me know if you want to ask about anything! -

Ok thx. Sounds good! I walked to the Walmart this morning, and went to the pool and jacuzzi the other days. OMG Dr. Ponce's assistant physician just came in and she is absolutely beautiful! She told me she had the sleeve two years ago and lost 110 pounds. Unbelievable, I'm so excited to have this opportunity!!!! Please if anyone is having second thoughts about anything just read and ask questions. Do you know the vast majority of people I have talked to that are getting the sleeve in TJ at Mi Doctor are nurses! The whole experience has been top notch from my first phone calls to Cindy and Christy to now, and I am very excited about the future! I already know this is the best decision I could have made. See you after the surgery. -

Well, I am sitting here in my hospital room at Mi Doctor just waiting patiently for the surgery.....NOT! I guess Dr. ponce is coming here at 3pm and I will be the last surgery, arghh. Everything has been great up to now, just hard to pass these last few minutes, hours, ? The nurses were unable to get an IV in me because my veins are small, so waiting for MD to o it. On a good note, the scale here weighed me 9 pounds under what the hotel scale said this morning! Hmmmm, I guess I dropped a lot of weight on the 3 days of liquids only. So....I now weigh 243 lbs, hurray. Wish me luck and say a prayer. Thanks! -
September sleevers @Mi Doctor@TJ...anyone?
Bkind2u replied to Heather Meyer's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Hi, I've met quite a few people who have had the sleeve here and are accompanying a friend r spouse for their surgery. By far the majority of patients I have met are nurses, followed by other health care professionals. I feel very good about my decision and also visited the hospital to see friends who were sleeved yesterday. They look great and all are glad they had it done. Good luck to you and I will visit u in TJ ! -

Surgery tomorrow! Still wondering if I could do this myself!
Bkind2u replied to grateful-1's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I will have surgery on the 11th and am really excited, but I still feel guilty about doing it because I "should" be able to do it myself. I also am going to have my teeth capped for mainly cosmetic reasons, and of course the two people I told said "you have pretty teeth, why would you do that?" I think that once the decision is made it is easier to just stick with it and move forward, this way karma will get behind you and give you a push. When I second guess myself there always seems to be people to step in and give their opinions in a negative direction. I am just keeping my "eye on the prize" am Nd putting all my energy toward achieving the goals I have set! Good luck to you. I know I made the right decision and am soooo excited about the future! -
