One week post opt...questions
belunos replied to Trying2getthere's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What plan are you all on that you're eating a week out from surgery?! -
If it's not just acid, then there's a chance you'll stay hungry until you're on solid foods. I stayed hungry for over a month. It SUCKED hardcore, but I just had to suck it up.

You shouldn't be taking any antibiotics that weren't prescribed for you're current symptoms. They're usually pretty targeted, and if you don't need them you're just killing healthy bacteria your body needs.

Food thinking...All in my head....
belunos replied to fccm04's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Six months out and I don't like most breads and pizza now. And I LOVED that stuff before. Oh, and breaded food, blech! -
Seems like the majority of posters here are women
belunos replied to Bruce Peter's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No, the surgery itself doesn't remove the desire to eat. Its not being able to eat much for the next few months that helps in that regard. In my experience anyway. It SUCKED at first, wanting to eat but not able to. At around six months, the desire and amount are around even. I don't really desire more than I can eat at this point. -
6 months and started losing hair?! Crackers, I'm 5 months out and thought I was out of the woods! Grate on the loss though!

4 weeks post op and have stalled.
belunos replied to TXGALINAR's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
They really need to sticky one of these posts. Most people hit stalls pretty early, it seems like good info to put front and center on these forums -
My surgery was today and i feel great!
belunos replied to Jersrose43's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My first day was easy like that as well. That second day, after the anesthesia wore off, that was a nightmare Hope it doesn't happen to you! But even if it does I was better again the next day! -
I've had some of the same changes in food taste. I can't stand anything breaded, and pizza is gross. And like you I didn't like salmon before, now I love it. Grants!

I want to say it was just hearing that I had fatty liver, which is a straight line to liver disease, but I've felt like crap for years. But even feeling bad wasn't it. It was fear. We all either get to an age, or see someone else go through it. Either way, at some point knowing our own mortality will sneak up on you and make you afraid of dying young. I was stricken with panic attacks. Fear of death. I didn't want to have a heart attack in my forties, or strokes in my 50s. Either way my chance of seeing 60 was grim. So I got the surgery about 4 1\2 months ago, lost 100 lbs so far, and the fear has abated. Best. Decision. Ever.

Eating too much too often
belunos replied to acampbell1318's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
A lot of times these bars are high in carbs. If the ones you're eating are, you are sustaining the addiction. Try replacing them with jerky or cheese sticks, they helped me get over the head hunger (for the most part) -
Feeling Like My Surgery Is A LIFETIME Away
belunos replied to mnmlst's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Once I started the process it felt like it took forever. I had about four months as well. Everyone said it would fly by, but it didn't for me -
Seriously mourning food :(
belunos replied to shahada's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was that way for a while. At about 3 1/2 months I nibled here and there on some carby items and found that I didn't really have a taste for them anymore. I can't speak for you, but there could be a point where you don't even miss the junk food. -
There's nothing wrong with weighing daily as long as you have proper expectations. In the beginning though that's hard to do.

How much could you eat 2 weeks post op?
belunos replied to TonyaNKy's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
This sounds counter to what you hear, but I was able to eat more at 3-4 weeks than I can eat now (almost five months). I surmise it was because my stomach was swollen and the nerves hadn't fully recovered yet. -
How long before you could eat popcorn again?
belunos replied to TonyaNKy's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had some about two months out.. But be careful, it ended up being a slider food for me -
I put it in everyone's face and almost dared them to get snide about it. But, I'm kind of a dick so I don't imagine many will take that road. People were really more curious than anything though.

Spouse not on board with WLS
belunos replied to eyemama5's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My wife wasn't on board at first. I'm a statistics guy though, so I laid out the research. I don't have the numbers in front of me, but the chances of losing a bunch of weight and keeping it off more than four years are abysmally low. Also, I was at higher risk of dying from weight complications than from the surgery. Lastly, I was 37 when I started. With my weight and comorbitaties I didn't have the luxery of taking 'the high road'. It all pretty much convinced her. -
I wish some had told me my hunger could return so quickly. I mean, I knew it would return at some point, but I didn't expect it a week after surgery. I eventually worked it out, but being hungry and on liquids for the next month was not a happy time

I tried pizza a couple of times but I've lost my taste for it

Whole wheat pasta and brown rice... Yes or no?
belunos replied to AliciaRenee84's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's very likely you will stop craving them. I wanted carbs badly after surgery, but after a couple of months I found high carb/starch food unpalatable. -
How many grams of carbs should/can I eat?
belunos replied to WhoKnows's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Atkins makes perfect scientistic sense if you lead a sedentary lifestyle. Keep in mind it advocates low carb, not no carb. I'm about 3 1\2 months out, and the only carbs I get these days are veggies. I never thought I'd see the day, but breads and breading kinda grosses me out now. I feel no I'll effects.. Quite the opposite. -
3 month Program with Nutritionist
belunos replied to Westfield27's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had actually gained 20 while on the three month. Still had the surgery, but your mileage may vary.
