Welcome! I myself am not yet sleeved yet. Hope to get done beginning of January! Enjoy reading everything here. Lots of your questions will be answered. Best of luck to you!!!

I had stitches due to a car accident a while back and had the same thing happen to me. I was told by the dr.'s office to wipe it with alchohol and if a piece is sticking out, cut it off with a sterilized fingernail clipper. Sterilize it by wiping it with alchohol. Cut it as close to the skin as possible and then gently rub it with your finger. It's probably a desolvable stitch anyway. I never had another problem with it after that. This is just a suggestion for you... Good luck!

MNMema commented on joatsaint's blog entry in Gastric Sleeve Surgery - An Unexpected Journey
I'm a self pay and expect to pay approximately $25,000 total...sucks...BUT on the bright side there will be a pot of gold at the end of this rainbow no matter what we pay!!! Good luck!! -

Terrified to tell Mother/MIL about WLS. Need suggestions.
MNMema replied to MetroDetroitChic's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know she's your mother but don't tell her. You are an adult. It's your body. If you tell her after, she'll get over it. Sure, she might be P.O.'d at you to begin with, but she will get over it. I'm not trying to be rude, just honest. And so should you. If you know it's going to drive her into next week, then why put her and yourself through that! Here's wishing you both the best of luck with your surgeries and your decisions!! -
I'm a hard stick for drawing blood. Does this change?
MNMema posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went today to have my blood drawn and the poor nurse had a heck of a time to find a vein that would either stay still or just to find one! Does this change when you lose a lot of weight? Most of the time when I have to give blood, they have to use a butterfly needle and draw the blood out. I'm not a chicken but it smarts! -

So, I consider myself fairly tolerant of stupid people (or I mask it well), but...
MNMema replied to LipstickLady's topic in Rants & Raves
Oh my goodness!!! Everyone that reads this will surely have a smile on their face! I know I do! You really should write a book. The way you word things is awesome and the things you say are oh, so, true! I haven't had my surgery yet but, when I do and lose weight and if someone says something to me, I will definitely remember reading this and probably start laughing to myself(hopefully not out loud). Just be proud of yourself and let the good times roll... -

Small Rant on Doctor Not Having Enough Staff
MNMema replied to DangerousD's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can assure you, you are not the only one!!! I am also frustrated but due to different reasons. If I had to wait an hour to see the doctor, I myself would consider changing doctors. By today's standards, that is unacceptable. If the insurance coordinator is with the bariatric clinic, then again, change clinics. As for your insurance. Be thankful that you have insurance that pays for WLS. My does not. If I only had to worry about paying $5000 as a deductible I would be on cloud nine! The whole process is frustrating. I think most of it is from our expectations today. We want everything now. I am learning to be patient. You will too! We can't be impatient after surgery because it is just the vehicle for our success. The rest is up to us and it too may be a slower than expected result. Here is wishing you the best! -
Anyone else worried about skin?
MNMema replied to cescelli's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
We are virtually the same size cescelli! And yes, I think about the skin. Can't really say I worry about it...more important things to worry about!!! Just take it one day at a time. I'm 59 years old so my elastic days are mostly behind me. With a lot of hard work you may be lucky and avoid a lot of the skin sag. Good luck!! -

Questions for the surgeon?!
MNMema replied to Mrs.FullerRN's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am not sleeved yet but, can answer #3 for you. If I am not mistaken, they all use the gadget that staples and then cuts. They have to staple first to prevent any stomach acids from leaking into your abdominal space. If that were to happen, it could make you extremely ill with a hospital stay in your future. The rest of your questions are good though! Good luck!!! -
I also have not been sleeved yet but, have been told by my nurse it will be no drinking 30 min. before and after eating. I too have seen the video with the applesauce and if you see it, you'll understand the concept. Good luck!

YOU look awesome!!! I had to laugh when I saw the first picture! I am built an awful lot like you were! This gives me a good idea of what to look forward to!!! Keep up the great work!!!

Well today is it, surgery in 3.5 hours.
MNMema replied to endless80's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Much good luck and prayers your way!!! Hoping to see a post from you tomorrow!!! -
I don't have a date yet but have been getting all of my ducks in a row beforehand. I'm totally a self pay and have my numbers for surgeon, anesthesia, nurse anesthetist, and hospital. I have been told that the hospital, based on a 1.1 day stay will be approx. $13,500. I also think a lot has to do with where you live. Medical costs vary all over the country. Hope this helped a little!!! Good luck!!!

I have my first visit with the nurse on 9/24. On the average how long does it take to get to the operating table from this first visit? I'm only asking for averages. I am self paying so, I don't have to do managed dieting. Would it be possible to shoot for the beginning of January 2014?

Thanks! This makes me more optimistic!!!
