good morning. I had my sleeve surgery 09/04/13. I was so sure that I was going to succeed this time (turned down previously by the ins co) that I started my diet one month earlier. I started protein drinks at least twice a day, no sweets, no carbs, etc. Then I did get my date and went into the office to consult with the physician and guess what, had lost 18 lbs. I was just told to keep up what I had been doing, with the exception of clear liquids two days before surgery. Worked for me.

I really enjoyed the "Oh Yeah" shake, great protein, but too expensive. I went to the GNC "Lean Shake." They are pretty good, three flavors and 25 protein each with 110 calories. As far as bars, I didn't try those until at least 8 weeks out.

the second I was in my room, I had my phone. I wore sweats to the hospital and wore the same sweats home but I only stayed overnight. they provided socks, hospital gown, toiletries, etc. I didn't need for a thing.

I had to pay 890 to surgeon initially. hospital bill was 62,000 plus change and I still have to pay 1240.

Take a breath, smile and hold your head up. You have started on a path of renewed health and taking care of yourself. I, too, was so nervous but in the end everything turned out well. Keep your eyes on the result you will receive... a new you, healthy, vibrant and feeling so much better.

best of luck to you both!!

To Rainae and Justin, keep the faith. To Rainae, I think everyone has these feelings, I also had a bunch of naysayers but I keep going. I am so happy now, able to move, function and, most of all, LIVE. I was told by someone close to me the old adage, "to thine own self be true" and don't worry what others say. Works for me!

good luck to you both. The first day to your new you!!

I am so sorry to hear of your dilemma but please hang on. I pray for you that these problems will subside in time but in the meantime keep your goal in your view and place one step at a time.

Getting Surgery Oct 3rd and still have a cold!
jbrown replied to Lorraine22383's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Have you tried Vitamin C? I take this regularly, guards against all that stuff going around. I take 500 mg 3-4 tablets in the winter, 1 in summer and 2 in spring and fall. Has helped me for years. The body takes what it needs and sheds the rest during the day. Just my suggestion. -
I take liquid simethicone (infant drops) and they helped to relieve the gas pains. Bottle was small enough to fit into my pocket and whenever I had gas, just a dropper full did the trick.

all surgeons have their own way of doing the surgery. I had my leak surgery during surgery, not the day after. As far as the drain, you lucked out and be happy about that, lol. Seems you are doing well and I wish you continued success

When I had my surgery, I had to enter the hospital two hours early. Surprisingly, the staff took me back immediately. It seems my physician wanted an entire bag of fluids infused prior to surgery and that took nearly 1 hr 30 minutes then they started adding the antibiotics to the next bag. Maybe that is the answer to your question. Good luck to you.

we all understand and we all are here for you. it is my prayer this will improve for you. -
Imodium ... is that for diarrhea? If so, call your doctor!

My nutritionist and surgeon are in the same office - more of a combined effort. I would assume then to follow the guidance of your surgeon and let that be that lol

Hello, I had two weeks of full liquids and yesterday just started my pureed diet. After two weeks of pureed then I advance to soft foods. I know many offices are different so I think it best to go by the directions of your nutritionist.

Surgery in 5 days...what do I need? what do I expect?
jbrown replied to lctrick's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hello Lisa, congratulations on the "new you" that will be coming! I had my surgery on 09/04 so I am now 10 days out. I took nothing to the hospital because I stayed in the gown for the 23 hours. It was just much easier. They provided the toiletries the following morning. I had sweatpants with a loose waistband and a tank top with an overblouse basically just to keep it loose on my abdomen. As far as pain, I had very little pain, but did have a lot of gas the next couple days while at home. Make sure you get your prescriptions filled, especially for the simethicone (gas drops) and you should be good to go. I did stock up on GNC lean shakes (it is what I use) to make it easier for me but you can use whatever protein beverage you choose. Wishing you good luck on your surgery and prepare for a fantastic journey! -
took me six days but finally ... a lot of water and jello lol

September 2013 Sleevers :)

My date is the 4th. -
i use the site to track my numbers but i found it a bit confusing. Therefore, i just list everything under breakfast so all my foods are there. How frustrating to have an omelet for dinner but the numbers are under the breakfast tab so you have to reload it again. I just load everything under breakfast. The numbers are correct and my dietitian didn't mind.

PCP don`t agree with weight loss surgery, I`m just thinking should i change my pcp?
jbrown replied to caretakur's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
By all means seek out other opinions! I tried three years ago to have surgery and a psychologist pulled the plug. I had basically given up. When my insurance changed at the end of last year, I had to get a new primary physician and in fact that physician suggested the surgery.
