I was banded 3-4-2005. Weight was 306 my highest weight was 330 a year prior to the surgery.
I was a cheerleader for the band. Went by the book. Lost 116 Lbs in 1.5 yrs. I was self pay. Had 2 rounds of PS as well, self pay.
Then started slowing down.
I developed a dilation and all fluid removed.
It has been like this for 4.5 yrs. Weight creeping back, and I have gained 40 lbs back. Tried WW diet pills, but nothing seemed to last.
About a year ago, started getting reflux. Not all the time, mostly after my second cup of coffee.
Then about 6 months ago, started waking me up some nights. I was taking OTC reflux medicine.
Went back to the band Dr. and he did another swallow test, showing that I had a dilation. HELLO no kidding. He only does bands. His PA advised me to NOT GET ANOTHER BAND.
she told me to do my research. well, boy did I.
Turns out after about 5 yrs with the band, people are getting reflux, heartburn, eroded bands.
So looking into revision on Obesity Help.com and everyone was having same symptoms. I am now waking up nights gaging and coughing after starting Nexium.
I went to Dr. Kim in Colleyville, and he is very highly regarded. Not much of a personality, but who cares, as long as he is skilled Dr. and knows his stuff. I really hate that he has so many billboards out there.
Again, as long as he is good DR.
So did the EGD last week and I have such bad scar tissue, my band is very tight. They had hard time getting the scope thru the band. So I am good to go with the sleeve surgery.
I told them I did not think I could wait till end of Sept, (30) as I am not sleeping due to the reflux. They agreed to bump me up to the 10th.
Now I have all pre-op labs, x-rays, EKG, and Cardiac testing this week, then my class next week.
All while my son and daughter n law coming to town. Giving her a baby shower. But its very important for me not to gain this weight back.
I will be self pay again, but hopefully God willing this will be the last and final surgery for weight loss.
