bummer, I just Mapquested LONG LAKE,,, humm.. could it have been RICE Lake???
  2. pizza? SOmetimes I can eat it (thin crispy crust type) but the doughy thick kind.... um NOPE... But even then the thin style I can only eat 2 pieces... anymore than that and I'd be in terible pain... so the BAND is doing its JOB!!! Pasta, I eat more meat sauce now and much less of the pasta, I only cook the WHOLE WHEAT kind and only eat 3/4 cup of it... Chew really well, but sometimes it even gets a bit stuck.. depends on the day. But, I had a steak tonight (4oz) on the BBQ and some Ceasar salad 3/4 cup. It was to die for and nothing got stuck, I chew well now and eat slowly... I usually finish after my DH... and I eat a bout 1/3 of what he eats... but then he is still woofing down his food LOL:confused_smile:

Its in the more eastern part of Ontario. I am in Central Ontario. I read you are coming to Buffalo is that right? When ? and how long will you be there??? :tongue_smilie:

Ha,ha,ha... you girls from the U.S. make me laugh!!! Don't you ever hear what the weather is doing in Canada??? LOL Oh yeah, I guess its not covered on CNN!!! Depending on where you live in Canada, the weather is often the same as Upper New York State, Minnesota, Washington .... Personally I live on Georgian Bay which is part of Lake Huron.(Great Lakes) so the temperatures are more moderate than say Northern Ontario or Norther Alberta or Yukon or the North West Territores etc.... I am 2 hrs north of Toronto, which is 2 hours north of Buffalo N.Y. (Phyll you have relatives there right???) So I pretty much have the same weather as them. But it is weird this spring as we went from having an PILE OF ICE in the front yard(winter accumulation) last week, now several of days of really nice NORMAL weather and the grass is starting to turn green... YEAH... There were even bathers in the Water at the beach yesterday. and Skiers on the Mountain in Collingwood, just across the bay.... strange phenominon eh??? Y'all really should come up and see it sometime.... get your passports!

I am so sorry to hear about your MIL passing away. Please accept my sympathys for you and your family. It was her way of living, being independant. It sounds to me she died where she would have liked to... at home. Please take comfort in that she is at peace now and lived her life on HER own terms. How many of us get to say that. There is no way that your siblings could have known she was that sick or that she was going to die. THere is no guilt there, as it is always God's plan and His timing... not mere mortals. (((hugs to you all))))

Hi Stph, good job on buying the gym equipment for yourself... YOU are worth it girl. You all have been so inspiring to me with your running, walking, excersising... That I've been out doing more too... I walked 1 hour in the woods yesterday with DH and Doggies. It was wonderful and sunny outside. Perfect weather 24 degrees here. Oh that's celcius, so about 78-80 degrees F... I have the day off today so I am hoping to meet up with some girlfreinds that I have been neglecting ... have a great day everyone

:tongue_smilie: I am still trying to get this multiquote thing to work... sorry I'm technically challenged LOL I did snack this evening, but I got some GREAT excersise in today. I gathered up my pouch and MP3 player, sunhat and did 3 Km. It was the perfect temperature for it. Then I raked the back yard gardens for about 2 hours.... so hopefully it's a net/net thing with the calouries. Night, night everyone! Candice

    The Canadian Process:

Betty Boop, you know its gonna be hard for the next 6 weeks until you start getting fills. Try your very best to stick to the instructions given.. Its the best way to avoid complications and you don't want that. Cookies are not leaving the planet.... just wait!

dont think its working for me Forgot to answer your question... For non=essential surgury, ie Cosmetic or Lapband I have to PAY> My lapband was $16k I had breast reduction and liposuction on my thighs qute a few years ago... now the Breast Reduction was covered for free because it was "medically necessary" however the thigh lipo was concidered "cosmetic" and not medically necessary so I paid the difference of $1500 to the surgeon for that. But hospital stay, drugs, anesthetic was already going to be included in NECESSARY so I figured what the heck I'd get both done at the same time

o.k. Janet, I'll try it. HEALTHCARE: You sound like me when it comes to Politics and supporting people in need. I feel that it is everyones right to adaquate healthcare and everyone should get it. What your x=hubby is going thru should not happen. In Canada, you don't have to sell your house to pay for hospital costs. But there are some user fees... for example my Mom is sent by ambulance to Hospital.. because she is over 65 she only pays $45 a trip. But if I were to call for an ambulance for myself its $240... but once I am at the hospital all charges are paid for, ie Cat scan, drugs, doctors, anethesiologist, cardiologist whatever plus blood tests etc. Now about the calorie counting thing. Yes I agree that you should track what you do. I am always quite good right after a fill then in a week or so I slide and stop tracking... when I am not tracking... oh my I don't make the best choices... I did buy some POLLOCK fish yest. and I am going to cook some toniight.. Its the after supper time that I have trouble... If I could just tie my hands behind by back and wire my jaw shut until bedtime.... I know I sound like such a whinner and (I hate that) I started off on this journey last July with the best motivation... Having trouble staying possitive, and on the right track

Karri; Oh my the fill from hell. Sorry it was such an uncomfortable event. And you have made the best decision for yOU. Mushy food is not what life is meant to be about.. Your w/l is great and you'll do fine. Janet; You are right, our Universal Healthcare is far from perfect. I have just had a bad week with it. But I am glad that we have a system where everyone IS included and don't have enormous premiums to pay. But then again, the cost is built into our taxes somewhere... the money dosn't grow on trees LOL... Has everyone been counting/tracking calories with an online feature? What sites does everyone use???

LInda; Thanks, I am getting an appt. with A Cardiologist in the NEAR future. I'll feel so much better getting an opintion from him. Canada Health care is free, but the waits can be frustrating and the CHOICES of who you see are not always there. Family Doctors (PCP) for instance, in some cities they are so rare that if you FIND a PCP you don't dare switch because most doctors practices are CLOSED and won't take any new patients. So if you get a crappy Dr. you are kinda stuck. Or you can use a walk-in clinic but you don't get any continuity of care. And with an elderly patient on 25 diff. meds a day no-0ne wants to 'touch' her case. The family doc. that I currently have I only got because I am good friends with the Secretary in the Medical office. My former Doc. died suddenly and I was without someone for a while. We have to pay for Eye examinations ($80) all of our medications, unless you are 65+ and then they are free. You have to pay for all your dental But you can go to any hospital ER and be treated, you just have to wait sometimes 8 hours to be seen, and then there may NOT be beds to admit you into... Once after a stroke my Mom was in a HAllway for 10 days before the hospital found her a bed. That was a few yrs ago but it was aweful and the nurses are run off their feet. If you need a hip replacement, knee... it is a 3 mos. wait for surgury ,after you consult with the surg. that says you NEED it. ANd for Cancer patients - its just aweful... wait times for chemo, radiation and then you have to travel a distance to go to a specialized cancer hospital... Best to stay healthy!!! That was one of my biggest considerations in getting the lap band... I don't want to end up with Diabetes, High Bp or Heart disease (all run in the family) the writing was on the wall. And after seeing what my Mom's been thru - lets just say it was a wake up call.

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Eat every 3 hours, but make it a High Protien source, low fat and low sugar... This will stabalize your blood sugars and eliminate the spikes... For example: 5-8 almonds, SF FF Yogurt, 1% or skim Cottage Cheese Snack Pak, Low fat Cheese Strings, Low fat Turkey Pepperettes, Veggies w/ Cream Cheese dip, Peanut butter on Celery Ribs. Slice of HAM. Don't be too hard on yourself, as this is a tricky time between fills and restriction. Good luck

Yikes Phyl, that is beyond weird for this time of year... Now in MY backyard I still have one little clump of ICE still left to melt. Should be gone by tomorrow though. As the temp. today was 80F... WOW, I wore short sleeves to work instead of my uniform Scrubs, OMG my arms are lily white and pudgy but I didn't care... I've had enough of "menopausal" momets lately!!! LOL I got off work early today and took my Mom out for a walk (wheelchair ride) I brought my Jack Russell dog to visit her and the others in the Sr's Residance. My Mom didn't recognise my DOG!!! My Woody (dogs name) is 14 yrs old and my Mom just loved her to bits... Now she hasn't seen the dog in 8-10 months... but I was surprised at her memory lossl Mom did enjoy feeding her crackers and holding her leash on the walk. I was really glad that I'd thought to bring Woody with me... When you think about it my Dog and my Mom are both elderly.. Woody was so good, quiet and didn't even jump up on anybody unless they encouraged her to come up onto the couch. We are getting a consult with a Cardiac Specialist in the near future. So I'll keep my fingers crossed that it will be good news. Home alone tonight DH is out playing Guitar... so I thought I'd putz around on the computer a bit tonight and STAY OUT of trouble.

Dear Karri, that is worth shedding a few tears over. It is a tremendous conquest. YOU are going to rub off on me if I keep coming here to read the inspirational stories. My fill is noticable now, I can feel a tad of restirction. Although I still need to work on better food choices... I did get some excersise today! I went outside and raked my back gardens. To get the oak leaves off. The ice is starting to melt away and the crocus's and hyacenths are just starting to poke their tiny heads up... YEAH! Spring is finally arriving. My Doggies were loving the sunshine too, and were bathing in the SUN when not chasing the rake and biting it and barking....:tt1: News on my Mom is a bit more positive today. Yesterday I spent the day fighting with her PCP (your term) who decided (All by herself) to cancel my Mothers Heart test to determine if she'd be a candidate for Angioplasty or Bypass surg. Anyways, misteriously 2 previous Nuclear Imaging tests were cancelled, with NO explanation to me or my Mother. I was so pissed you can't begin to know how mad I was. So I reamed the PCP out and told her my MOther wants EVERYTHING possible to be done to test her heart and then GET whatever treatment is out there so that she can enjoy a better quality of life. Currently, she is on oxygen 24/7 and can't walk (with her walker) anymore than 3 yards before she has to sit and rest. Who would want to settle for life like that? I had a heart to heart with my MOM and asked her if there was a 50/50 chance that these tests could kill you, but possibly make your life better what do you want to do. I'll fight for her to the death, but there's no point if she dosn't want to take the risks. Sorry to splieckt this all out here, but I've been just inside out with worry.
