12 Steps of Overeaters Anonymous

It is very hard to go to your first meeting. You will find the courage to go though. You are admitting to yourself that you have a food addiction, so the next step is admitting it to others... My experience has been that you will not be judged. You will be in a place where all others have felt the same way you do. Shame in overeating, fear of not being in control.... all the rest..... The only thing I am unsure of is how others will react to your banding. You might want to save that bit of information until you feel comfortable with your group. -
Hey there Green: I am so sorry to hear that you've had a health set-back. Geesh, you were just getting wind in your sails again... Keep working on that passport, you'll be traveling this winter - I just know it. Your sense of humour has gotten you thru .... Candice

Oh I love that T=shirt!!! Way cool Janet!! Your pictures of you and Phyl are great.. I loved the one of your "fur babies" too. Today, I started the day by being GRATEFUL, spent quite a lot of time listing the things I HAVE rather than focusing on teh 'have nots'.... it was such a mental rut I had gotten myself into this week. No MORE. You know what my DH did this morning? He got out of bed and said, gee I'm going away this wk to Halifax and I'd better get out and RAKE off the Roof because he dosn't want the Snow to all fall off in one fell swoop and then it would be too heavy for me to shovel while he's gone... THEN, he decides to clean out the TUPPERWARE cupboard (everyone has one of those yukky cabinets where the fling stuff in right?) because he was at the store yest. and there was this terrific SALE on new tupperware.. OMgosh, I didnt' need anymore!!! But I didn't say a thing... Phyl, I know you are laughing right now!!! Dosn't it sound like something EARL would do too? Stephanie, you have snowmobiles? You lucky ducky!!! We have snow shoes instead, cause then the dogs can come out and play with us in the woods. But I'd love a snowmobile too!!! Sorry If I forgot anyone.. just trying to get caught up. Having company for dinner, so gotta go clean up the house. CBL

Hey Kari; 7 hours drive, 430 miles between me and you... I guess we're pretty close... But you and Linda in Wisconcin would be closer if you take the Lake Ferry... Don't forget you are coming to Canada next summer for our BANDSTER RE-UNION!!! Cand"i"ce ( hee, hee, hee) I was just checking us all out on mapquest, man we are really all over the place.

LOL I am enjoying the snow so far... I have been hunkered down for a couple of days.... QUILTING by my window that overlooks my backyard.. (remember the pic I sent you?) Anyways, we have 3 feet of snow now.. and its cutting into my CUDDLE time with DH... he got up early 2 mornings in a row to clear the driveway, walkways and back deck. Plus then he has to shovel "doggie paths" into the back yard so TWIG and WOODy have a place to P & Poop! otherwise if its too deep they can't feel their paws hit the ground and they'll poop right on the deck by the back door !!! YUK... I havn't gotten used to the extra time it takes to get out of the house and get to work... We don't park our cars in our garage (another story) so you have to broom them off first, chizzle the ice/snow away from the lock and then start the car up... warm it up a bit and then drive away... IF my Dh has used teh snow-blower to clear the driveway first! OMG what would I do if something happened to him??? Ahck, I'd not be out until spring!! no, just kidding, I'd hire someone to dig me out Ha,ha,ha... Wow, I've really missed a couple of chatty days on the site. though.... Karrie is back, YEAH!!!! we've missed you. Stephanie, we're sending out good vibes that your PCP finds a solution for you soon. Phyl; Your DH and Mine are so alike its scary!!! oh dumb me... they are both military??? that answers the question!!! They like to be in control and dont' like leaving anything to CHANCE... now you and I on the other hand are more prepared to 'go with the flow'... we had to be... look at all the places we've been uprooted to over the years. By the way... YOU ARE SO CLOSE to your 100!!!! :smile2: that is fantastic and you are an awesome example!!! Car; Now I remember. I chattted with you several months back about your rental property in France... I checked out your web site etc... as some friends of ours and us were looking at vacation options... glad I finally put it together. Janet: Thanks again for checking up on me.... you're the best!:w00t: and in case I havn't told you all lately... I love you all ! This board and thread is what keeps me sane and accountable... When I think of the friendships that have been formed here it almost makes it a blessing to have been fat!!!:cool2:

Ok, Oley-Oley-Outenfree!!!! Where is RUBY???? I know you are lurking as Kari said... and isolating... don't!!! We love you and want our RUBY back... I am struggling with my demons too... I am up and down like 'hores drawers...pardon the expression. But I just get so fed up with myself at times. But one thing I know for sure, this place is WHERE I will be successful... if I just keep coming back and trying. I have invested so much money in ME, why do I get so close and then sabbotage my good eating habits....???? I still don't know the answer to that question, but I will continue to search... Part of it is that I am physically more comfortable in my body. there dosn't seem to be an URGENT need to make more changes.. I know that asounds dumb. it is. However, Back feels better, knees feel better, BP is back to normal... I can do physical stuff that was out of the question before.... BUT, I am not at goal yet. Its at least 30 lbs away... What do I need to STAY the course... a brick upside the head? Do I have a fear of being georgeous at goal weight? That I won't be able to control myself, and have to be beating men off with a stick??? What is my FEAR??? o.k. so hanging on today to Sister Janets wise advise. And whoever else wants to chime in... Go ahead, I won't be offended... I need an A-ha moment!

YEAH, you have your computer back at full speed. Dosn't it just drive you crazy when you can't access it or only "S l o w l y" ... Yes, my visit with my Mom went well yesterday. I took my Quilt (in process) with me to work on. I knew my Mom would be glued to the TV in the lounge as CURLING Masters game was on... for you Cali girls... CURLING is a Cdn (Scottish) sport done indoors in the winter on Sheets of ICE. Usually 4 sheets across... so that several teams can play at the same time... You crouch down in the "hack" with a broom in you left hand for balance and you throw (slide) a ROCK down the ice slowly towards the target (kinda like a bullseye) at the other end of the rink. Meanwhile 2 of your teammates SWEEP the ice just ahead of the rock in motion to warm up the pebbles on the ice... this makes the rock go faster... Sorry, Montana Girl Stephanie probably knows just as much as I do about Curling, I am sure they do it there too. Ah, we have to find some fun to do in the cold months hee,hee,hee.... besides snuggling in the bedroom!!!!

Oh Stephanie, you are having your issues GF! Now I am no Doc/Nurse , but what you describe sounds like Hypoglycemia... which needs further investigation too! Eat LowGlycemic foods, and PROTIEN FIRST, eat something with good quality protien every 3 hours, by the clock! Sliced turkey, deli ham, keep a small can of tuna in your purse, then follow it with WHole Grain crackers, veg or fruit. A tetra pk of O.J. would be preferable to the Orange Soda... and you can keep tetra paks in your car unrefrigerated too. What about some little mandarin oranges? I can eat those, but not a real Florida orange, too pithy and they get stuck. Protien shakes, protien bars,,, every 3 hrs... o.k Please look after yourself. HUGS Candice

O.k. I am here! This is the first day that I've had time to sign on... I changed my days and hours at work this week, so I'm still geting used to it. Food choices have not been too good, but I will do better!! Exercise has been good, getting some of that in. Steph, I am so happy for you that your Tummy troubles are resolved. We were getting worried about you! Phyl, I just love your new picture... man you look good~! Yikes, its my 34th Anniversary and my DH and I celebrated by sharing a 2litre bucket of frozen Yogurt... and um yah, Yogurt is still not healthier than full fat icecream when you eat 3 bowls of it.... But, tommorrow is another day, MONDAY and no better day that to get back on track... Love to all, C:wub:

Great start!! Half the battle is admitting you have a problem. The band is a great tool (I've had mine for 15 mos. and am maintaining a 64 lb loss. Now I still have more weight to go, but it is comming off and is staying off for good... No more Yo=yo's for me. The band is a great tool, for the physical.. but you are smart to embrace OA to deal with the Emotional/Spiritual side of why we overeat... nobody puts a band around our heads!!! You will often hear folks talk about "head" hunger vs. stomach or "real" hunger... This morning I proved it to myself again. I made healthy pancakes, Flax seed meal, almond meal, oatmeal & a bit of bisquick to hold it all together.. SF syrop.. I made 6 pancakes. So I figured hummm I can eat TWO for sure. Put the other in the freezer, I "Wanted" two... but the Band stopped me... As I sit here I was only able to eat 1 and then there are 2 bites still on my plate I can't finish... just can't.. When did i EVER leave food on my plate? Good luck on your journey, we can do this together!!! -
Morning ladies; Well, I stayed up very late to watch all the news coverage.... my Hubby was pissed!! He said "hey, I have to work in the morning, can you turn that off?" So I slept in the basement twin bed, I have a TV down there for guests... hee,hee... and I could watch Obama to myhearts content. Although, like Janet I am GLAD its all over... 2 yrs of campaigning is enough... you guys should do what we do here in Canada, call an election and have it 6 wks later!!! All over and done and back to the business of running the country. I had 1 pancake for breaky today, with SF Syrop.. yum.. I really thought i could eat 2 but no way!!! So Ihave 5 to go into the freezer. I made them out of ground Oatmeal, Ground Flax seed meal, almond meal and Bisquick/eggs... really substantial.. guess that's why I could only eat one and was FULL CBL Steph: Have you tried just drinking liquid Protien ISOPURE ? it comes in various flavors and is see through and thin in consistency. I think you can buy it at GNC or better pharmacies.

Well, about the previous poster and the Tyl#3's prior to surgery... that is a question you should call and ask either nancy or Daryl I got banded in Jul 07 and paid $16,000, however I do know that their price went up tho $18K... awhile ago in 2008... but that was pre-wall street crashs... so perhaps they did lower their fees... I have never heard of them paying for Hotel accomd. but hey , no harm in asking for it right... Just negotiate with them... its a free country and there are 3 W/L clinics in T.O. now so compitition is on YOUR side.
