Stephanie; You poor thing, I am so sorry you can't do the Mackenzie... are you getting in to get an MRI this weeK??? God, I hope so I am praying for you to get better o.k.??? Just emailed Linda all the details so she and Mel can decide if they want to come for a week or a Long wkend... Drive or fly, they havn't decided yet. Oh Steph Honey I feel so bad for you... To be stuck 500 miles from home and feeling as bad as you do. I think its a good idea though that you stay put for a while and get this checked out further. Sitting in the car with a Hern. Disc would add insult to injury..I remember when I hern my disc L5-S1 the LAST possition I could be in was sitting... It Killed me... the only possition that was comfortable was lying face first on a hard surface like the FLOOR with a quilt under me for a tiny bit of cushioning. I honestly don't know how you are doing it. Now I am NO Doctor, but here are some things that helped in my recovery (w/o surgery) Lying prone on the floor, face down, arms by your sides. Then SLOWLY and carefully bring your hands up and under your shoulders (at the front) and do tiny flexions upward from your pelvis lifting your head/shoulders off the floor. Now I mean to start with TINY bits of arching, hold for 5 secs and then down. Repeat several times. If you feel the pinching in your buttocks (right or left Side) then make the movement slower and not as much incline. 1)At first all I could do is put my hands under my shoulders, then in a couple of days, I could get up onto my Elbows, then a little more....and so on until you can arch your back and straighten your arms (lock elbows) and lean your head back. This will be gradual excersise, tiny bits each day. Repeat several times per day... THen REST face flat on the floor for 10 mins. between sets. This is called the MACKENZIE physio excersise. 2) thing that helped me was to put some SPACE between the discs. I accomplished that with TRACTION. I bought a "Teetter Hangup " devise... it is about $400 but you can purchase it and have it for the rest of your life. Some Chiropractors have devices to do traction in their offices, that might be something to check out too. 3)I also Used Laser Therapy for my back, I took 30 treatments over a couple of months and then I was pain free. So hon, these are 3 things that I did to get well after my herniation... plus Oxycodon and Percocets... which I HATED taking... Please keep us posted. Love Candice , here is a link to the laser system... there may be a clinic near where you are http://patients.meditech-bioflex.com/

Hi girls; Having a good day today. Hubby at work, and I have Chicken in the crock pot... so I am sewing up a storm in the basement!!! Ya know how I love to quilt eh? I'm putting the top together for another one... that's my weekend project ( I am far from the kitchen and the monsters that lurk there) Then once the top is complete I can sandwich it and then start hand quilting in front of the TV... both hands are kept BUSY and also my nagging mind.... Tomorrow, back to the gym and then to a GF's 65th B=day party... that should be fun. Have a great weekend everyone. Peaches

    12 Steps of Overeaters Anonymous

Dear Rchief: I would keep seeking a W/L surgery too... Have you thought of the SLEEVE? there are no after adjustments to be bothered with... Or now they have the GASTRIC BALOON... it gets inserted into your tummy (you swallow it) then the Dr. Expands it .... the balloon stays inside your tummy (taking up volume so that you can only eat tiny meals) for 6-9 mos. while you loose your weight.... its cheaper than lap band, and gastric sleeve and Roux=n=Y surgery... Also, Mexico has some great surgeons and the cost there is considerably less than the US or Canada.

I really enjoyed reading your post. I too have experiance with OA and recovery (albeit for a while) I have gained and lost hundreds of pounds over the years..My best success for 3 yrs abstinance was going to OA meetings... Lots of meetings. I lived in a town then that had 4 -5 meetings on different days around town. SO that was great, Open meetings, Step Study meetings, Closed meetings... such a variety! Then I moved and my new town meetings just didn't feel the same.. I didn't see a lot of folks with abst. or recovery... I felt let down... (really I was just comparing my old meetings to my new city, quite unfair) Anyways, that was my excuse to stop going THAT time. Several years later, after trying to Diet on my own... I admitted that I needed OA.. and started a meeting in my own town... I sat there for 6 mos each week - alone.... o.k. then here's another excuse to Quit OA ~ right? Ha! A year and a half ago I got the band, tired of dieting, tired of talking abvout losing weight and not being able to. As I get older its harder and harder to kick start the metabolism ~ right??? So here I am 1 1/2yrs banded, down 60+ lbs... still have 35 to go,,, and I've remained at the same weight for a YEAR! Yes, a whole YEAR banded!~!!! What's up with that???? Its because I eat around the band, sugary foods slide right on thru - no restriction... now I can't eat a WHOLE bag of oreos at one sitting, the band does curtail the abinges.... but I can still get a lot of excess calories in there...... hence the stalled weight loss. I have no control over my binge foods, the band stops my REGULAR food from becoming over eaten but icecream goes right thru... I need help - I need OA.... "God, grant me the serenity to ACCEPT the things I cannot change"

Phyl; you have to focus on all the GREAT things that you have done for your body. You WILL get p/s on your legs one day... and in the meantime just remind yourself of how hard you have worked to get wrinkly, flabby legs... they are a badge of HONOR not shame... You have lost a tremendous amount of weight & you are beautiful.. People are so insensitive, who was it that suggested you push someones face under Water a while back....??? I think you should do it the next time you suffer an ignorant wise crack from one of the pool "ladies"(?)... I know you are a Christian Lady, but jeez you deserve to smack somebody. OR... when they start with , "I probably shouldn't say this".... Look em straight in the EYE and say "Well then don't ..keep it to yourself!" :scared2: HUGS Candice When my stomach gets to the point when I want P.S. I will definetly consider Mexico.... Hey maybe we could get a 2-4-1 deal???

I am 1 1/2 hour drive from Lester B. Pearson International Airport in Toronto."YYZ" From Buffalo, about a 3 hour drive I think. From Port Huron, Michigan I am a 4 -5 hr drive... Things to do.... Visit Toronto for day, sightseeing, shopping then there is Niagra Falls to visit if anyone is interested. Then there are tons of Walking Trails in the Blue Mountains (30 mins away) There is the 14mile long freshwater beach, right here in town. Water slides etc.. If anyone wants anymore info just let me know... plus your US $ are worth more than Cdn$ right now, so you get a good savings there too.

Well, I went to my 1st(this journey) meeting last night. I lied to my hubby when I left the house, told him I was going to visit my GF who lives around the corner. I wan't entirely sure I was going to have the guts to actually pull into the church parking lot. But I did and was glad to meet more like minded people there. THey were very welcoming and it was a step study meeting last night.. they were working on the 3rd Tradition which is all about "WHO qualifies to be at a meeting" It was perfect! I was very concerned that they may not WANT me because I have had WL surgery. But it never came up, and I didn't feel the need to share that information... The only requirement to membership is "the desire to stop eating compulsivly".. well I have that in spades. So I found a place that I can belong. When I came home I fessed up with my hubby and told him where I really was... and he was o.k..... "I just want you to be happy hun" was all he said. So day one was a sucess, I got thru the rest of the evening not over eating, no junk.... it was good. Karri, I don't know if they have chapters in Oregon, abut I'm sure that they must... My town only has a pop of 18000 and we had a meeting! Thank goodness for that, cause if I had to travel to one I am sure I would have used that as an excuse not to go. Have a great day ladies.... C

Morning Steph; I work for a Chiropractor so I always TRY their conservative approach to back health first....BUT, sometimes things are so bad (ie hern disc) that you need surgery. Then the specialist you need is an Orthopedic Surgeon, or a Neurosurgeon... That's right both of these specialist surgeons are equally equiped to deal with whatever you have.... After tests and this consultation if you don't need surgery, they'll recommend Physiotherapy, Chirpractic care or possible Laser Therapy would help. I suggest Low Intensity Laser Therapy because that is what I do. I am a Certified Laser Therapist, I treat all kinds of Musculoskeletal illnesses. Arthritis, bulging discs all sorts of low back pain, foot pain, TMJ just to name a few... What ever course of treatment you choose I just hope you get it soon so that your PAIN stops and you get back to being YOU! Back pain is the worst!! I can attest to that. (((HUGS))) Candice p.s. your posts are never too long silly girl:tt2:

Thank you for all loving me in your own way, and making this journey into wellness a little easier. Steph, you are right about the SECRET, I do have a copy - I've just chosen not to look at it much lately.... I'll have to re-read it again.
