Aleve & Advil: DO NOT try this at home!!!!
peaches9 replied to TerriDoodle's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Terridoodle; You cannot take anything for PAIN except Tylenol... unless its injected. FOr pain try ICE packs switched to HOT packs,, it worked well for me. I have Arthritis in my lower spine, left hip and knees (from excess weight load) 2 wks ago I had to stop taking my CELEBREX (like Gold!!) and its been 'iffy' but I am managing with the ice packs and heat.. alternately... also, don't forget we may have some pain now, but as we drop the lbs the load on our joints will be much easier to bear. PLEASE take care of yourself o.k??? -
2nd Day Pre-Op Diet-Harder Than I Thought
peaches9 replied to wishmeluck13's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
DOLLYROSE I so agree with your comments, this is not a quick fix lifestyle change.. ITS A permanent change, to our response to physical hunger, and how we will manage our EMOTIONAL Hunger... Personnaly, I've spent $16,000 for this proceedure and I do not want to Frig it up by overeating again!... I want nutrician for my body, that means eating Protein 1st, veggie/fruit 2nd, and last if I have room.... starch items... I am looking forward to NEVER hitting an All YOU Can Eat Buffet again.. Bless us all in our Journeys!! -
2nd Day Pre-Op Diet-Harder Than I Thought
peaches9 replied to wishmeluck13's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello there! My paperwork from the Clinic says MUSHY after full fluids on Day#14 post op. THe quantities they suggested are 2 oz. chick or Protein, 2 oz. vegetables, 2 oz starch(IF you have room for it) don't push it... a small size yogurt between meals for a snack , or jarred baby food FRUIT, or VEG.. maybe 1/2 a jar to start.. see how it feels. Its not supposed to be enough to satisfy our "EYES" I think that is the biggest learning curve ahead. Good luck and let me know how you are doing o.k.?? We all get off on each others successes around here... its a great site! -
Wrangler054 that prev. post was for YOU!!! Lovey

oh my Gosh, SHE is reincarnated Scarlett Ohara ROTFLMAO When you have surg. you will NOT have eaten anything (inclucing red jello) for 8-12 hours.... so there will be NOTHING in your stomach for the doctor to see. Besides, from my understanding they don't OPEN the stomach, the band just gets looped around the outside of it... right? SO noone could see any contents to be confused with blood. My father used to have a saying " Don't believe anything you hear, and only 1/2 of what you See"..... good advise if you ask me!

Kristin07 Hi there, you should ck with your Doctor as PRE-surg... you need to STOP taking your Vitamins and ASA or any N-Said antiinflamatory (Celebrex, Vioxx etc) as they reduce CLOTTING time ... not a good thing during surgery. I stopped my two wks prior to surg. Excersise? keep at anything that you can sustain... walking, treadmill, eliptical trainer, aquafit classes... whatever you can do - do it now... you will be in great shape for surgery!!! Good luck with yours, you still have a week and a bit to go right? Mine is in 2 days!!!! and I can hardly stand the suspense.. I checked out photos of everyones tummies post surg. and they dont' look as scarry as I had envisioned... there are also some great before & after photos on one of the threads... Peaches9

My DH husband asked me the other day "So I guess we won't be eating RIBS at Montana's Steakhouse anymore eh?" I used to love going Wed.nights it was ALL-you=can EAT RIB night... I usually had one whole rack then order anothe couple of ribs, then another..... leave the baked potato and side veggies and just eat the meat.... OMG... Well, I gues those days will be over and besides, I've already EATEN a lifetime of Ribs... LOL I am sure tht I'll be able to handle a small pork chop (2-3 oz) with a bit of BBQ sauce on top sometime in the future..

Dear ChickB13; We all have some fears about what life will be like after... but my guess is that whatever you fear the most... will never turn out to be as BAD as you imagine... I've proven that to myself over and over again thru the years. ( I'm 51) As you loose weight you will feel so much MORE energy that you will WANT to get out, move around and be among the living... you'll hve to trust me on this one. My BF had a gastric bypas in Feb... she was considered morbidly obese and was in dire threat of having a heart attack. She was scared too about what life would be like afterwards... Well, I am happy to tell you she is down 65+ lbs... and looking fantastic!!! She always has this 'sh!t=eating grin" on her face all the time.... I asked her " why are you smiling so much?" she said "Am I??"" she didn't even realize how much of her happiness was beaming thru... she weeeeears makeup everyday to work now, died her hair and is having a blast buying size 18-20 clothes instead of specialty stores 24-26 size... she still has about 70lbs to lose but is now SO CONFIDENT that she will get there that she dosn't care if it takes a yr to lose the other 70... she is out of daily pain in her knees and back, is using LESS asthmas medication and her B/P is now back in a normal range... Best of luck toyou and check in here often. Peaches9

SInce its only a 35 - 45 min. proceedure and I get to come home after 2-3 hrs in recovery... what should I be wearing that day... so as to be comfortable on the Drive home (2 hours approx.) Any suggestions? Thanks, Peaches9

LeslieLee; Thanks for your replay regarding my FILL questions... it seems as though as L-day approaches I keep thinking of 'new' issues to obsess over!!!! So as I understand now from reading several post, a fill is not always accoumpanied by a Fluoroscope. How much weight did you loose Pre-op/ and Post-Op but before your 1st fill.

My uncle once commented to my DH "Gee BIll, I see that you've lost weight!" Ya, my DH says..."I've been doing South Beach"... MY DEAR Uncle then TURNS to me and says " So peaches, you ever think about joining HIM on this DIet???"" I thought I would just KILL him, right there in the middle of a reception area surrounded by 30 or so people... Yes, I have gotten the "pretty face" back-handed compliment too... usually from my MOM. They just don't get it... But I agree with the CHIMBOREE, it never hurts to spruce yourself up a bit.. "I" enjoy looking my best.. just because you are overweight YOU can still be HOT. I even went Skinny dipping 2 wks ago!!! Do you believe it? I just figured 'ha, don't see anybody around in this lake" it felt so freeing, just like when I was a Kid.

What to Wear After Surgery
peaches9 replied to Big Wave Dave's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
HI Dave; I laughed when I read your post about your "G's" I too am concerned about what to wear on the trip home from the clinic (2 hour drive) with hubby at the wheel. My surg date is the SAME as yours, July 11th @ 12 o'clock Noon!!! I am so excited , we should stay in touch for suggestions/support/comisering post op. A couple of the gals suggested NO bra - whoo-hoo NOT an options LOL so I guess it'll be something loose... a Bahama Mama dress that drops from the shoulders I think and flip flops that I can slip in and out of easily.. All the best and good luck with your flight home :biggrin1: -
I sounds to me like you Live in either Windsor or Niagra area, being that close to the states. I read about a bariatric clinic in detroit that does the LAPBand for 11K U.s. dollars, which is cheaper than TLBC in Ontario. 16K Canadian. With the Cdn dollar at 95~ US its a good time to go there speaking money wise only. A good friend of mine got her SUrgery (RNY Bypass) done in Ypsilanti Michigan at the Barix Clinic there... THEY WERE FANTASTIC... but I don't know what they charge for pay as you go Canadians for the LapBand. But while WE were waiting in the patient lounge HALF of all the folks we talked to were from all over Ontario... Just a thought. Good luck to you in what ever you decide. I am going to TLBC,my surg. in July 11th ( booked, paid and in in under 2 wks!) whew!

CanuckSwan ( I love your screen name ) thanks for the reply! Would you mind me asking what Med for Depression you are still on??? Are you happy with its effectiveness...??? I had to stop taking my CELEBREX (for Arthritis in Back and knees) a week ago and oh-yeah... today I am feeling it... I tried the liquid tyl just to see what it tastedlike prior to surg... I'll live... it ain't great but I am glad it is available to me.. DH gave me a good massage this a.m. before getting out of bed and then I went for a long walk with Dog... excersise does help the pain in the hip a bit... Have a GREAT weekend! :whoo: Peaches9

canadian who have gone to mexico
peaches9 replied to andreerichards1's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
hI aNDREA, i TOO first "looked" at going to Mexico... the doctors reputations and medical facilities are awesome... PLUS a GF of mine IS a physician and SHE went to MEXICO for her Face Lift, BOOB job and eye lift.... so that's a pretty good referral if you ask me... HOWEVER! If you go to MEX and save $$$ the TLBC Toronto Doctors will do your 'after' fills but they charge $5000 so by the time you add in airfare, Mex medical bills, + the $5000 for Cdn aftercare... its really not much of a savings... In my humble opinion. However, you could get HUBBY to make a vacation out of it everytime you need a "fill" (wink, wink, nudge, nudge) -
2nd Day Pre-Op Diet-Harder Than I Thought
peaches9 replied to wishmeluck13's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Di; Not that I am an expert... as I have not been banded yet (July 11th) But from what I have read... you start off with 2 oz protien, 2 oz. Vegetables/fruit, 2 oz. of Potatoe/starch( that's if you have room for it!) so roughly that's 1/2 to 3/4 cup of food in total... what would fit on a lunch/salad plate... If your hiccupping... that's a sign of toomuch food.. Good luck and hang in ther.. its a learning process for ALL of us. Peaches9 -
((lurking from Canada)) Worst things? Definetly the RUbbing Leg syndrome... oh that rash hurts!!! I solved it by wearing thin "bike" shorts under my dresses... ONLY wore dresses at 240 as slacks always bunched in at the crotch... hate those girls whose main complaint is "camel toe" !!! LOL Hating that my tummy sticks out farther than my 40DD boobs Hating not being able to see if I have any grey hair "down there" yet. Yes, and restroom stalls - either you poke yourself in the eye with the purse hook on the back of the door, or you can't wedge yourself between the HUGE double-roll tissue dispenser and the Sanitary dispenser.... Trying to put on my own Toe Nail polish.. forget about it! Solved teh CLOTHING Problem though, I started Selling Ladies clothes at home parties... xs to XX- large... its great I can just order whatever I want in XXL and if its too big or small I can send it back. I also get to try it on in the PRIVACY of my OWN home... Does anyone else notice that the thermostatic temperature in those Mall Change rooms is always set on "CARIBBEAN" heat wave!! or is it post menopausal me??? hummmm Peaches9 240/193/130

Kathybad; My GF had the Gastric bypass ROUX-n-Y done laproscopically in Feb... in MICHIGAN.. Ohip paid as she was heavier than I... it cost $40K U.S. funds!!!! SHe made her application from teh Drs office and within 10 days got her approval from OHIP!! 2 wks later she had her surgery in the US.. I went with her for pre-op tests etc... long drive. but she has done very well. I did not weigh enough to qualify for ROUX n Y and OHIP payment. she has lost 65 lbs since Feb/07 - has never regretted her decision "wished I had done this 10 yrs ago!" was her last reply to me... BUT I think the LAP is the best choice for me... especially that it's reversable if you ever have a Health Crisis and need full nutrician again (although I hope NOT) I agree that our Government Health care could certainly use some "tweeking" It is short sighted of them... with the W/L surgery "we" will cost the OHIP system LESS money in the long run... ie. Heart attacks, strokes, diabetes, joint/back problems, .... funny how they will pay for Pacemakers in someones chest after their heart has pooped out. Or artificial knees...??? That is one of the blessings of this LAPBAND surg. I will be carrying a lot less excess weight around on my arthritic knees and spine...

I lived there from 1989-2000 when I moved 'up north' to the Georgian Traingle... I hate driving in Toronto, so that will be my next challenge - when I go for fills - I may drive myself... DH is taking me for Tues meeting and Wed surgery to T.O. Peaches9 51 240/195/130?
