Did YOU Start Solids Early???
peaches9 replied to susansilver's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
EEks, I am glad I am not alone. I broke down today and had an egg for Breakfast... I am pre-empting the mushy stage by days only.... then at lunch I had my CREAMED soup with Protein powder... Then for supper I had a 1/2 cup of Choc pudding with 1 scoop prot. powder. THEN, I ate 3/4 cup of tiny pretzel letters..... chewed really well... topped it off with some strawberries/low fat cool whip... well chewed again.. Now I am having some tea... this has been my first BLOW IT... But, I feel fine... but a tad guilty -
KathyBad, What great news!! I hope your DS steps up to the plate and helps you out with the child care... it would be pretty crumby of her not to help out when this is such a great opportunity for you and hubby. My company for the weekend just left and I got to eat Breakfast... my first REAL breakfast. I am supposted to shift to SOFT/MUSHY in two days, but I had to have an egg today. OMG it was good, I made "EGG IN THE HOLE" 1 egg, 1 slice of bread....it was divine.. and chewed, chewed, chewed every mouthful thoroughly until it all felt like GLUE in my mouth.. oh but I did enjoy! down 15 lbs. now since pre-op

Hi DonnaD No it is not around my pubic bone. Its higher than that, closer to my navel.. 2" below by belly button and to the left of it my 1 1/2".... Yes, I can feel it with my hand if I press there... its not too far under the skin... But if I am wearing a two peice bathing suit ( Ya I wish!) it would be BELOW that for sure... not quite Bikini material but I am happy I;ll be areally happy when its not Yellow/purple anymore ha,ha

two oz. of meat, trimmed of fat, bone etc.. I'd figure on 2 -3 "Ribs" would be enough... They are a cut of meat HIGH in fat, but if you are only eating them occassionally then go for it. Its like PRIME RIB steak vs. SIRLOIN steak, Big differnce in the FAT content... You just have to make a judgement call... Plus perhaps after WLS Fatty foods might be more difficult to digest... guess you won't know until you try IT"S QUANTITY that rules us now, not deprivation

you've gone to a lot of trouble to have WL surgery... why even tempt yourself with Icecream concoctions??? Just drink a nice cold Protien shake, its got all the nutrician you need and tastes good.

IMHO Curves workout is fine if you are just getting back into excersise, but don't take out a LONG membership as you will soon get to a point where CURVES is holding you back in your excersise goals... then you will need a full service gym. A full service gym is where there are treadmills, eliptical trainers, recumbent bikes(you sit back with back support) weights, classes of various sorts... I love my Y membership. They also have aquafit classes etc... much more variety and I am one who gets bored VERY easily, so If I dont' change up my workout a couple of times a week... I'll just stop going. VARIETY is the spice of life right???

I just had the procedure 3 days ago..
peaches9 replied to CmacD1964's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Yeah me too. I am able to eat about 6 oz. (liquid) of soup ... I could eat more but I am not doing it... I wait 2-3 hrs and if I am still hungry or stomach is growling then I have another snack or more cream soup. -
LOL, havn't tried "that" yet only a wk post op... BUT when I am leaning against the kitchen sink, my port and the edge of the counter top are the exact MATCH! So as it is still purple/yellow and bruised its a bit tender if I forget and connect. Now once all the bruising is gone it may not be an issue at all. I am pleased though that my "panties' or bathing suit bottom will hide the port bump(if there ever is one?) Also, I am glad it is there and not MID abdomen as I do yoga and a lot of AB excersises so when I am bending to touch my toes I didnt' want to be impeded by the port... Maybe that's why he put it there??? Preop discussion he said it was going to be below my left rib mid abdomen... when I woke up... it was in the "bikini" area...??? go figure?

Nervous - Surgery set for Aug 2 at TLBC, ? re pre-op diet?
peaches9 replied to kero's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Kero; I suppose my 'ticker' might be a bit confusing.... My TOP weight before I started this journey was 240, I dieted (1500C + Exercise) for a year and lost 40ish lbs. Then for the next year... I stalled completely... I went to Hynotist, Took Meridia, Xenica and then back to WW.... all to no avail. That's when I booked my surgery at 199 lbs.... While I waited 2 wks for my surg. date I started the pre-op diet so from July 3 until today (one wk post op) I've lost down to 185. My ultimate goal is 130... so 55lbs to go. but I've lost 14 since preop and banding. Capish? -
Oh this is a great thread. Everyone is pumped and doing SO well.!!!! I have been walking ... even when i got home from the hospital that evening after surg at noon. I was a little slower than my usual, but I was circulating the blood!! LOL Since then I've been walking 1 hr a day, and today I went back to the "Y" for the first time... Did 15 mins. on the Eliptical Trainer and 20 min. on the treadmill at max. heart rate... oh it felt good... I was only kinda sad that I couldn't do my weight routine... gotta wait another couple of wks for that. HUGS everyone

Lainy DarLaur SunshineSonya SweetJephy Lindaa RRKeithsGirl HollySue Coltonwade MsPris CKBW WELCOME to bandland everyone!!! OH you poor thing, from the research that I've read and the NUMBERS of complications that my CLinic publish... Band Erosion is like 1% and band slippage usally only occurs IF you are abusing your band... for example if you OVER EAT amounts of food if you progress to SOLIDS too soon Drinking CARBONATED beverages... if you follow the BAND rules of eating you should have a successful journey and weightloss outcome... Can you see someone else for Fills and post surg. follow up??? this Doctor sounds like a goof! Or is it entirely possible that your family misunderstood his comments or took them out of context ???? I agree with the other poster above, call him on it and have him :check his comments: face to face

HI Lauren; two of my steri stips came off today too, I plastic coated my stomach to have a shower ` but it was to no avail... the rest stayed pretty dry but their edges are curling up too and looking mighty grimey.. oh well... bruising is not too bad escept at my port site too. A purple circle about the size of a baseball. I got a bikini port. not what I had expected but I'm happy none the less. As I hear that a lot of folks get them MOVED later on in a second proceedure. My weightloss so far is 13 lbs. so I'm now 186 as of this a.m. Take care!

Just want to introduce myself
peaches9 replied to lisa in toronto's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
To Rose S.: I too beat myself up over "having unnecessary surgery".... plus my Dear Sister kept harping on about it too.... then she said " what if you die?" is it worth it to be thin!" Dah! dosn't she know I'm at risk of heart attack or stroke from staying fat... that's when i decided to DO IT! I have not looked back nor had any second doubts. I wake up every morning and feel so excited that I am consistantly losing and giving away my clothes!!!! In the past on diets I would always SAVE a favourite "big" sized garment .... just in case I ever needed it. Well, no more this time next year I will weight 130 lbs and be muscular... I'm gonna be wrinkled ! as I am 52 yrs old and the fat has plumped up my face nicely for the last two decades... but heck, I've earned each and every one of those 'laugh lines".. Good luck to you on your journey and don't forget = we are all here to support one another. -
Lucky 7 -July 07 Cruise Destination Poll
peaches9 replied to Lynette617's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Hi Lynette: Q: Would the Alaska Cruise leave from Vancouver, British Columbia??? [interested cause I'm a Canadian eh?] -
RAINER: If you are hungry, angry, lonley or tired.... that will definetly set you up for problems. I suggest you add a scoop of protien powder(unflavored) to your Broth's or cream Soups.... it adds a bit of substance and increases your PROTIEN which is very important to satiety and good nutrician. Today I ate: Straw/Ban flav. Prot. drink + I added a tsp of Flax Seed OIL (breakfast) Lunch: Another shake, skim milk + 1 tsp Flax Seed Oil Dinner: I made Cream of Broccoli/cheese Soup, + I added 1 scoop of Unflavored Protien powder to it.... OMG it was to die for and I felt very satisfied on 1 cup.

thank you all! I AM doing well.... I can't believe how uneventful this has been, aside from 2 day diarhea.... I am not complaining at all... my incisions are so tiny, my PORT has been placed below my navel and to the left by about an inch... it'll be a good spot I think... Except I noticed while washing dishes its at the exact height of my counter top edge! weird eh? I'll just have to use the Dishwasher more often LOL Full fluids now so I made Broccoli cheese Soup (blendered it too) and had 1 cup... OMG it tasted like REAL food... I also added a scoop of Protein powder to kick it up a bit in Nut. value... It's amazing how these little amts are satisfying me... I LOVE IT!!! down 13 lbs since Pre-op diet

can you SEE or FEEL your port under your skin????
peaches9 replied to peaches9's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
shoot, Kathy... I forgot to mention I asked Dr. Yau if my port could be between my breasts below the rib cage (area).... I said i didn't want it interfering with doing sit ups or YOga.... I woke up and guess where he put it??? an inch to the left and below my navel.... so I guess that's my "bikini area" LOL -
can you SEE or FEEL your port under your skin????
peaches9 replied to peaches9's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hey KathyBad; It's Peaches9 {{wink, wink}} here.... just thought I'd let you know how I am doing. Its Day#5 post op and I am on Full Fluids now YIPPEE can't tell you how much of a differnce that makes!! I feel terriffic too, plenty of energy.. I've been taking long 45-60 min walks, went hiking down a gorge yesterday! sleeping well, no pain... the odd gass bubble but definetly less than before.. so I havn't taken any tylenol in 2 days. I only took my TORODOL for OP Day and Day #1 post op... didnt' need it after that. Also found out that I didnt' need the liquid tyl. I just bought the 500mg tablets and cut them into 1/4's and they went down just fine... I am also down 13#'s since my pre=diet began Jul 3rd.. so I am very pleased with those results. We should keep in touch byemail... can you send me your address?? are you getting excited? have you started your pre-0-p diet yet??? -
mspris/ What you are fearing about anesthesia is VERY COMMON indeed... many people have that same fear... I don't know who you are going to have as a surg. and gas man but Perpaps there is someone else on this sight who has used the same facility and could offer you a "Good seal of approval" ya know what I mean? My Gas guy had the personality of "paint drying on a wall" but he KNEW his job well.... when he put the IV in my arm, I didnt' feel it at all and I was asleep in seconds.... When I awoke, there was no nausea or vomiting (which I usually have after Gen. Anesth) but these guys that do bariatric surg... they use the CADILAC of ANTI=nausea medications while you are under sedation... All in all mine was a very possitive experience and I am sure that yours will be too.

Dear DISTANT0098 Go to the store and get some PEDIALYTE, you are down in electrolytes!! THe exact same thing happened to me and I thought I was losing it as I NEVER get headaches.... WIthin an hour or two I was feeling better and energetic too... its amazing what some potassium and salts will do for you! I also used an ICE BAG on my head and tylenol Best of luck

Thanks Danny; MsPris; Congratulations on getting bumped up on your surgery. Making up my mind to have this surgery was one of the hardest decisions I've ever made... but once I made it... I just wanted it over with.. that being said I had it on Wed. so now am day#3 Post-op... Good energy today, but I got the runs... which is kind of a drag.. I re=read my post op discharge notes from teh Doctor and THEY DID mention that some folks get diarhea... as you are only taking IN liquids, so what comes OUT is liquids too.. makes sense now that I think about it... Oh well, a learning curve for sure, tomorrow I'll get to start Protein shakes in the afternoon I can hardly wait for that stage... Keep a positive mental image of how you will look and feel a year from now.... if you do that I am SURE that you will relax and realize that you made the best decsion for yourself. Take care
