    Dr. Borland- New Iberia, LA

Thanks for the info. I am being sleeved by Dr Borland Sept 16th. I met with him, he was very nice, and I too am having my sleeve in under a month from my first apt to surgery date. I'm glad to hear everything went well. I am a little nervous about having this done. It's been compared to having your gall bladder taken out, but I had that done and was in serious pain for several days, so that comparison has not eased my fears. Were you able to get a medical discount on your hotel bill? I already booked my hotel, but they weren't sure if they gave a discount. Where did you stay and was it nice?
  2. I am September 16th also. I only need to do clear liquids the day before surgery, I was expecting 2 weeks as well. I find it hard not to have a "last meal" type of mindset. It's not like I'm never going to eat again, but the fact that I can't have XYZ again, or shouldn't have it again is a little daunting. I wish Sept would hurry up and get here so I can get the surgery over with
  3. My doctor has me taking 2 10oz bottles of magnesium citrate the night before surgery. One is supposed to be at 4pm and the other at 6pm. I know it cleans you out, but 2 bottles?! Does anyone else's doctor do this? All I can think of is that I'll be in the bathroom all night before surgery. My surgery date is in 3 weeks...excited and nervous!
  4. Good point! My husband thinks I have to do two because the doctor doesn't do a 2 week liquid diet beforehand, just liquids the day before.
  5. Thanks! I figured they'd all be pretty nasty, nice to know the cherry is less gross
  6. Wow... you look great! Very inspirational. I hope to hit my goal as quickly! Have you had plastics? If not, your body did a great job tightening up! Congrats on your success!
  7. Yes, I am worried about possible cramping and pain I'm not a big pain person.

    Two weeks full liquid stage

Not sure about portions, but I think they are considered solids. The point of not drinking right before is so the soup doesn't move through your system so fast.
  9. Your craving won't go away after eating the cookie...remember that. The only thing you will feel is guilt and disappointment in yourself. If it's an option...get away from the food. Go shopping (somewhere that doesn't sell Oreos), or to the library. Watch a movie, start a project you've been wanting to, do anything but think about cookies... Resist the temptation and you will feel proud of yourself for being able to!

Bit of a rant: Pissed off - upset - depressed

I want to start off by saying, you look great! Seriously! If I had to guess your age I would say mid 30s. Our clothing can make us look awesome or really bad. I think it was probably your clothing that made you look like a "little old man" to your stepmom. Perhaps you should find a fashionable friend (or even your wife) to help you buy some new clothes. "Younger" clothes would make you look younger (if that is what you want). Is your stepmother overweight? Is it possible for her to be jealous or uncomfortable about your new look and she was lashing out? People are always going to be critical. You look great and feel healthy, so let it roll off your back and move on!

    What was your breaking point?

I have been interested in wls for awhile, but I just didn't like the idea of gastric bypass (messing up my insides permanently) or the lapband (having a foreign body inside me that stays). The sleeve intrigued me, but it was still a relatively "new" surgery. I've always been overweight to various degrees. I don't have medical insurance, so wls was always in the back of my mind as "I'll do it someday when I have the money". Well, finally, I've gotten to the point where I have just now been diagnosis with type 2 diabetes, I'm the biggest I've ever been (300lbs), and I no longer care what I look like. All my clothing is huge and I feel so big and awkward when I go out. My mom said she'd pay for my surgery, so here I am. I am excited about the journey. I guess it wasn't just one specific thing that did it for me. I also want to be healthy for my husband and kids of course, and my teen wants me to go running with her. I'm looking forward to being able to run, among other things!

does it never just not work?

Do you never feel "full"? My surgery is not until Sept 16, but the doctor said I will feel full after a tablespoon or two of food. I'm not sure sucking on m&ms is a good idea since they are chocolate.

    Almost 7 months post op

You've lost a little over 9lbs a month on average. That is great! I think once you get down to your goal weight you'll still see yourself as "fat" for awhile...or at least that is what I hear. I have thyroid problems as well, so I can sympathize. Have you had your blood levels drawn to see where you are? Taking the right amount of meds will go a long way in giving you energy to exercise and get things done. Good luck!

does it never just not work?

You've eaten m&m's at just 10 days out? That is not good. You should just be on liquids, right? You don't want to tear a hole in your stomach. Remember why you did this. The gastric sleeve will not work if you make bad eating decisions. I don't really know what to say. Good luck.
  15. My surgery date is September 16! I'm excited and scared and then excited again! I haven't told anyone except my mom (who will watch the kids) about the surgery. I don't want to hear the negatives. Deep down inside I am scared I will be that person who doesn't lose anything and fails. Right now I don't have to do a liquid diet, just clear liquids the day before and 2(!) 10oz bottles of magnesium citrate the afternoon before (this can't be good). Anyone else have to down 2 bottles?
  16. It might be because they fear you will lose too much weight. I have seen a lot of people lose all their extra weight plus an extra 10 lbs. The look like skeletons. Most people rebound to a normal weight, but the extreme skinniness bothers some people. Either that, or they are jealous. That's a possibility too. You look great by the way!
