Froufrou I think I’d drop the Starbucks for 200 calories and try to keep carbs under 30 and see how that goes. -

I think many people lose just fine in the 900 calorie range, but I’ve read many that have kept them lower while trying to lose, so I guess it depends on the individual. Personally I’m trying to keep mine lower because I’m terrified of wasting this first few months after surgery. I’m sure my mindset is coming from my feelings of failure from not getting to goal/regaining with my sleeve, so honestly I don’t know, lol. You could just be in a normal stall or 900 could be too high. Maybe drop them for a couple of days and see how your body responds? -

My understanding is that most say we don’t have to wait since it’s a fluid and goes right through as a liquid does, but I like to wait at least 10 minutes because it does feel like it goes slower than thinner liquids. -

I know I would be able to increase the amount I can eat. I have to be vigilant making sure I keep portions low or I don’t lose. I’m not sure if it’s because I’m a revision or some other stupid reason. Froufrou- I seem to have to keep calories low, between 600-700 to lose well. I may do better if I were even lower, but I can’t seem to get it lower and get 50-60g of protein. I think I’m going to buy the unflavored Genpro powder since I hear it has 30g of protein and only 60 calories for about a tablespoon and is nearly tasteless. As far a what you’re supposed to be eating...protein first, then veggies and they say carbs last, but I don’t do a starch on my plate as a rule. I have however had the tiny corn tortillas in street tacos a couple of times. I think they have 7 carbs in each one. Street tacos come with 2 tortillas and I have tossed one, so only eating one of them but honestly they are a waste of calories/carbs without much nutritional benefit. We are supposed to only be eating things that have good nutritional benefits at this point. I am finding that I have to stay focused or I will push the boundaries far enough to just maintain my weight. I have a hard time with my fat brain at night, urging me to eat something, never bad stuff, just yogurt or cheese and almonds, but still calories I don’t need because I’m not hungry and definitely don’t need to eat before going to sleep. It’s an ongoing struggle for sure. -

Froufrou, yes my hunger has returned, but I get hungry when it’s meal time and then I’m not hungry again for about 3 hours or so. -
Anyone had full bypass surgery??
taylormomto6 replied to allies journey's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I was revised 2/12/19. I was released from the hospital the evening of the day, mostly because I pushed to be released. When I woke up after surgery I was nauseous and dry heaving, but after a couple of hours it passed and I was walking 3 hours later. I was not allowed any liquids or anything until around noon the next day after they did the barium swallow test to make sure there were no leaks. After that they had me slowly introduce water, gradually adding a bit more each hour and by around 4 they brought me a tray with broth, iced tea and sf jello. If I could keep a few bites down I was good to go. I never had narcotic pain meds, just IV tylenol. I really didn’t have much pain but I did get a headache that wouldn’t go away. When I came home I was good, not exhausted like many. I’m not normally a napper and didn’t even nap when lounging around the days after surgery. By 2-3 days home I slept on my side and tummy, was getting in 40oz of fluid and about 30-40 g of protein in shakes. I have felt great. Surgery day weight was 230lbs, today I’m at 196.7. I’m getting about 600-700 calories a day in, 50-70g of protein and about 25 carbs. Because I’m a revision I am extra careful about what I’m eating and am on guard about making sure I’m not grazing. I’m determined not to fail this surgery! -

Hmmm, I just came to the realization that I think my views on food are changing. Like most of us, holidays were always about food. Yesterday I made Prime Rib, macaroni salad, corn on the cob and cauliflower Mac n cheese for our family dinner. I ate 3 dime sized bites of meat (should have eaten more because it’s protein but I got tired of chewing), 1/4c of the cauliflower and 1/3 of a corn and didn’t even consider eating the macaroni salad, no struggle at all. I guess I just didn’t even entertain the option and just now realized it. I didn’t make a dessert since I’d asked the boys (I have my dh and 3 boys 18-20 here) what they wanted and never got an answer so I didn’t make any, lol. I hope this is the beginning of real change in my way of thinking about food. -

Everythinganna- I’m sure it’s water retention. It happens quickly if we go from eating few carbs to eating carbs things. It should go away in a day or 2 if you cut carbs again. Yes, we will be able to eat more as time goes by and that’s why we’re supposed to change our eating habits now. If we haven’t made those changes by the time we can eat more then regain will be inevitable. -

Great job on getting to that Pilates class! I’m glad you posted about the honeymoon period. I’m with you, I have to work at as well. Weighing ever day is a necessity to me so I am accountable each day. I haven’t really eaten much off plan, but I have eaten too many nuts and that’s even enough to slow/stop my weight loss. I’m certainly not in the camp where I’d lose no matter what I was eating lol. Down to 196.7 today! Yay! -

Sheri I hope you sail right passed that 200 mark! My weight loss pattern is so strange. I will lose 3 days in a row, then be stuck the next 4-5 days, then the pattern repeats. It’s annoying but I do still average 3lbs a week. -

I’m 9 weeks out. I try to keep my calories in the 600-700 range but have gone in the 800s a couple of times a week. No problems with any foods, getting protein or getting fluids in. Typical menu for me would be a scrambled egg with tsp of butter for breakfast or protein coffee. Lunch is usually baby spinach, spring mix with 1 1/2 oz chicken breast strips topped with T sour cream and salsa. Dinner has lately been 1/3-1/2 c homemade chili beans or 2oz meat with broccoli or Brussels sprouts. At night I usually want a snack so I’ve had sf Greek yogurt, sf jello with a dollop of yogurt on top or some cheese and smokehouse almonds, but I can get carried away with the almonds so have pretty much cut them out. Often I’ll add a premier protein somewhere, but when I do my calories are closer to the 800 range. I am still having to resist the urge to graze, especially at night. I’m going to try doing the premier protein around 9pm to see if that will help with the grazing/snacking urge because it seems if I eat a snack it just starts up my “fat brain” and even though I’ve not had anything “bad” I can still slow weight loss with grazing on allowed foods. -

I’ve had steak a couple of times, just an oz each time and it was fine. I had Rib Eye but I bet Filet would be even better. I was careful about chewing and didn’t have any issues. -

Sleeved- I’ve never heard of anyone dumping on greens. Did the dressing have sugars? Congrats on the great week Paula! I’m trying to get there myself. Tweaking a bit right now to see if I can find my “sweet spot”. It’s such a mental game because I don’t want to waste a week tweaking in the wrong direction, but I can’t figure it out without trying different things. Where are your carbs landing right now? -

Everythinganna- I cant throw up either. I really don’t get nauseated though. Even when food is stuck it’s mostly just uncomfortable and a bit painful.
