Am I the only one that doesnt miss food/eating?
barbmeow replied to gamergirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
AS I sat the other day,in the car on a road trip, and watched my 6 foot tall girlfriend eat a basket of popeyes chicken, biscuit, and fries, I was really amazed at my changed feelings for food. I was grossed out by the huge amount she consumed. I watched her chew her way through onion rings fries and a double cheeseburger, and wanted to gag. I actually ate less after seeing her eat. What a refreashing change in attitude as before we would each get a large fry, eat onion rings and finish with a milkshake. Now it makes me feel sick, just to watch her. I hope this continues. I must confess I tried 2 satisfries at BK did not want more. Nice but not needed. -
1 Week out - Tired & Confused
barbmeow replied to phoeebs's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
T'newstart, I too felt awful and tired for about 12 days post surgery. It was rough. WHen I saw my Dr he said most people are fatigued for about 2 months. He also said relax try and get enough fluids, protein. In the beginning I ate 2-3oz of greek yogurt every 2 hours. ate it over 10 mins rested 1/2 hour then ate again at the 2 hour mark. I added Unjury chicken soup protein drink in for fluid about the second week. It has 100 cals and 21 grams of protein. Only need 3 of those a day to get most of your protein. It was such a welcome non sweet protein. I love it to this day 2 months and 9 days post surgery. Try and remember everything taste bad after surgery. Right now you are adjusting and you may not be perfect for a while, but you will get there. -
css95, You are doing well. some of us do not lose very fast. I think it is part of the reason we are heavy, we are hypo metabolic. I was told by a Dr when I was 18 that this is my metabolism, ultra slow. We would be the ones who would survive famine,Oh goodie. But we just are slow loosers. He also told me to stay thin I would have to eat 1 lettuce leaf a day. How depressing. I find that if I keep carbs really low I can lose weight and maintain a normal body weight, so if this applies to you then you pick protein at the buffet. You can tell your friends you are doing the Atkins diet, and since protein fills you up fast you will not have to eat as much as they. Shrimp and cheese, turkey or prime rib. There is always that kind of thing at buffets. If there are crab legs they take a long time to eat and you can fiddle with the shells to get the last drop of sweet crab. I hope you have a great time, and come back lighter and happier than your friends who will be guilty at all they ate at the buffet.

Finally lost 50lbs!
barbmeow replied to musiclover's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Happy 50 pound loss, that is a big deal. I am patiently waiting for mine but it is going slowly too. -
I measure everything. I am trying to not goof up, so I think if I measure it will keep me on track. I read every label at least 3 times. Funny now that I confessed I am hungry all the time, I have had 2 days of not very hungry at all. Could barely reach 550 cals and 64 gms of protein. Now that is the way I expect my sleeve to work.
-
yes I eat way more than 60 grams of protein a day some days 80 grams . My weight loss is 35 pounds in 60 days, but I am still hungry a lot
-
I am hungry most days too, I get such a grumbly stomach that hurts if it is not fed. I can hold about 3/4 c. I am worried that I will be able to hold too much food before I hit my 100pound goal. I keep my protein at greater than 60 and my cals less than 1000. I am almost 9 weeks out, and today I ate a cup of movie popcorn(no butter) No problems tolerating it, but it was the best chewed popcorn I ever ate. It really was not worth it, I learned, not that good.

REGRETTING.....
barbmeow replied to NeuroSurgNurse's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Neuro surge nurse, why are you not taking Zofran? It helped me through really rough times and no sedation, to speak of. Phenergan is so sedating so is the scopolamine patch. I would then attack my Dr as to what size he made your stomach. Why are you not able to sip simple water. The levison is good for the cramping, but why are you having this symptom? You know Dr's some don't care unless you make them care. On the plus side you are only 10 days out and it was buyers remorse for at least that long for me. I am hoping you are going to feel better but make your surgeon take care of you. You are a nurse and we do know how to make those surgeons help those that need the help, this time it is you. -
Ask your Dr. if you can switch to pill form of meds easier to slip in with applesauce or pudding.I had two episodes of the mouth watering, with nothing but dry heaves. The gas was what made it so bad. I started taking something for the gas GasX and zantac for the acid things got better. Are you on full liquids, or clear?

August Sleevers?
barbmeow replied to Brettharris35's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
We all lose weight at a different rate. Your body doesn't know you spent 25k on it. 210 pounds is really small as I see it, I am 8 weeks out and have not seen 210 yet, started at 246 or 254 depending when I weighed in. I would be thrilled to weigh 188. How tall are you and what was your BMI? What does your Dr think? What does your thyroid look like? So many factors go into this weight loss thing. Are you exercising? I am wondering if you are looking for an excuse to sabatoge yourself. Stay on the program and you will get there. Its hard but being fat is harder. -
I am 62 , sleeved on 8/21/13. I was not weighed pre op in the hospital, so I do not know what my preop weight truely was. The day after surgery in the hospital I weighed 254, but that was after liters of IV fluid. I know my regular Dr, has me 246 last time I weighed in with her before surgery. Any way, as of today 57 days post surgery I have lost 35 pounds, from my weigh in with my primary care doctor. If counting the hospital weight then 43 pounds. Down one shirt size, and clothing I was stuffed in are now loose. I think my weight loss is slow, as when I was younger 30 pound loss in 1 month was easy for me. Is anyone else in their 60's finding they are having slower weight loss, than in their youth.

Surgery a year ago and have not lost much!
barbmeow replied to jdosal4's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Ensure is a horrible idea and I am a nurse telling you that. We use it to fatten up patients. On top of food I can see why you may not be loosing weight. Give up the Ensure and go back to basics. Are you seeing your Dr. and a nutritionist? You may need to go back and see one, start over again. I hope by next year you will have shed 100 pounds. -
August Sleevers?
barbmeow replied to Brettharris35's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Chrissythemoo, I am so sorry you had to go through this. Being in the hospital can not be fun. Also the liquids they give you to drink in hospital, stink. Have you tried flavoring your water with things like decaf tea, green blueberry tea, all sorts of decaf herbal teas or crystal light flavor changers. It is good to hear you are on the mend. Your cautionary tale will help someone else I am sure. -
Does anyone know the reason?
barbmeow replied to kim2002's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think it is all up to your Dr and his nutritionist. My Dr advanced me to soft foods at 3 weeks. I am 8 weeks out and I need the roughage, so I have my yogurt and frozen bluberries. 6 oz of greek yogurt 1/4 c bluberries. Its filling and last a long time. I find yogurt is one of those slider foods for me so it must be the blueberries that are filling. I was having a horrible time with constipation but with the fruits and vegies I am much improved. I can not imagine no fruit for 4 months. -
I was sleeved Aug 21,13, so I am 6 1/2 weeks out. I have lost 27 pounds and am happy with this amount. My diet has been mostly protein and some carbs from veggies. My problem or concern is the amount that I can eat. I can easily take in 3/4 of a cup of food, for example, tuna 2oz and cottage cheese together =1/2 cup and peas 1/4cup, all together. I am full after eating it and my calories are low,but I a worried about my restriction. How much can you all eat after 6 weeks? I have to worry about something?

How much can you eat?
barbmeow replied to barbmeow's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you I forget about the different size of stomachs. I kind of wish mine was a little smaller, so I could not eat as much. But I will loose weight. I am still only eating about 500-800 cals and keep my Protein above 60,drink my 64 oz of Fluid. Thanks again. -

Unjury chicken broth got me through rough times when I could not stand or stomach anything sweet. It was a godsend. I prefer the plain chocolate to chocolate splender. it seems richer and makes a nice hot cocoa. Enjoy..

Did any of you have doubts pre-surgery when you saw pics and videos of the loose skin left after weight loss?
barbmeow replied to Kaj's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You mean we wont look 18 again, rats. And I was looking forward to all those nubile young boyfriends,NOT. I am wanting a tummy tuck and bat wing cure and facelift and neck tuck and why? Vanity? Keeping up with the Jones? Trying to figure out what it is that makes me think this is necessary. I think keeping perspective means we are healthier, and that in itself goes a long way to making you feel good about yourself, which makes you ageless. So loose skin, bring it on. I will deal with it as it comes. -
Keeping complications secret NO MORE!
barbmeow replied to SkinnyGirlNC's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
SKinnyGirl, How frightening, not to be able to eat when you need to supply your body with nutrition. I am wondering if you can freeze ensure or make an popsicle with it so you can easily get the nutrition down. Frozen seems to be helpful. I work Hospice and often I make health shakes for the older people who are not eating well. I always put a cup of ice cream in 4 ounces of ensure and blend until smooth. I have never had a person refuse the health shake and they are getting a load of calories and nutrition. Might be a way to sneak some calories easliy back into your diet. On the happier side I have an idea that you look wonderful and you are going to beat this non eating thing, as you beat the fat. You need to know you are strong or you would not have undertaken this journey and done as well as you have. You figured out how to lose the weight, now you will figure out how to stop losing weight.. -
I know this is a crazy question
barbmeow replied to barbmeow's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you both for your answers. I feel better that I am not stretching my stomach. I do measure everything as I do not have control of portions as yet, being only 5 weeks out. I may never have control, as big portions got me to this place, that I needed a sleeve. -
I know this is a crazy question but I measure all my food, and I am confused as to how I should measure in regards to eggs. I use 2 servings of eggbeaters which is 1/4 cup of eggbeater and 1/4 cup of low fat cheese. This should equal 1/2 cup total but when cooked it fluffs up to seemingly much more. I can eat it comfortably, and the calories and protein are good, but I worry it is greater than 1/2 cup and I might be stretching my stomach. Anyone ever asked this crazy question before?
