It seems like everyday is a struggle.

It's very normal, I'm feeling it a little bit during the pre op. Some times had been hard, but I think about how miserable I was before I had this light of hope in VSG surgery. I believe I have an addiction to food, which just means I use it to change the way I'm feeling, or numb what I'm feeling. I have had some other addictions as well, so I'm fairly familiar with this condition. This is like an 80% inside job thing. We always think fixing something on the outside is going to fix or fill the hole on the inside. It isn't. If we don't address the thinking, we will just find something else to use. I get a lot out of bariatric support groups, a psychologist, a psychiatrist, and the rooms of Narcotics Anonymous. Anyway, get some outside support. The solution is spiritual in nature. (that does NOT mean religious). Good luck!

    I NEED HELP PPL

Most post op diets start with a few days of clears, then progress to a couple weeks of full liquids. Mine starts purees at 3 weeks post op. I should be just in time for some mashed potatoes on thanksgivng. Cant flippin wait! I have heard of many variations of post op diet and it depends on what your doctor prescribes. Some start purees as soon as a week post op. Some are more cautious. You have to ask your doctor, and if you're unclear, don't be shy. Call that office up and request some meal plans. I know my pre op binder came with like a week of sample meal plans for each stage. Good luck and dont progress your diet faster than your doctor has suggested.

    don't screw up or else?

    waaaaaaa! Please don't go!
  4. OP- only YOU can decide if you have a problem with alcohol. The reason we are all picking up on that is because it is fairly common to see an alcohol problem emerge after WLS. It seems to me that alcohol is very important to you. That doesn't necessarily mean you have a problem with it. But consider also, if it is not a 'problem', then it shouldn't be a problem to give it a rest for a while. I must tell you that I, personally, am a recovering addict with over 3 years free of drugs or alcohol. When we are having trouble succeeding, we have to look at our self-destructive behaviors which may be contributing to our failures. I wish you much success and hope you can get some assistance to help you get on track.

    This diet is very tough

I am closing in on surgery Monday morning. I've been on the pre op diet for, oh I donno, like 18 days? It has all run together. Dragged on, and also gone by fast. I've lost my mind, raged, stormed off, had homicidal dreams, and had fights with people on the internet. I cheated exactly 3 times with 1. a double cheese burger 2. 2 donuts and 3. an oatmeal cookie. I have fantasized about tomatoes, learned that pickles have no calories, and could right a dissertation on how jello is NOT food. I have come to terms with my weaknesses, and realized I am stronger than I think. I have lost 13 lbs and my pants are falling off. This is the hardest thing I have done in a long time, maybe ever. Oh, and I also quit smoking on top of all that. Well, it is going to be worth it. #SkinnyArmy!!!

What's the story behind your profile name?

Unbesleevable1, because this is going to be....
  8. I'm still alive! I don't know how many day's it's been (started on the 15th). Down about 13lbs. Haven't killed anyone yet, but its come close. Seriously, I am so jealous of some of you who have gotten used to this, I certainly haven't. I guess i am more familiar with feeling hungry, and crazy. Most of the crazy compulsive cravings have gone away. I have learned that donuts are my kryptonite. I have cheated twice and it is what it is. I found a protein that I really enjoy (OH YEAH brand, choc milkshake) and do look forward to shake time. The one's they sell at my docs are not that great. So, yeah, I'm surviving. This is definitely one of the hardest things I've ever done. #SkinnyArmy
  9. shaving with a razor can make infection more likely. if you want to remove any body hair, use clippers.
  10. If you are going to Mexico or somewhere like that, yes. The hospital will provide any vitamins you may need in the US. You could bring them just in case. Sometimes they will allow you to take your own supply. Usually, they dont want you taking anything they don't know about and cant document.

    Pre-op yogurt choice...is this possible?!

I don't think you can get away with that. You would need to compare the nutrition facts.
  12. unbesleevable1

    too slow

More calories and more protein, give your body a little boost to get it out of starvation mode.
  13. Day 13 of 21. I've gone crazy. Ive also lost 11 lbs. I have cheated twice! This is really hard. I'm obsessing about food, and lashing out at people. I'm having crazy dreams where I put hands on people. This is the last bit of evidence that I am a food addict and I cannot do this alone. Good luck everyone! Please pray for me.

    Is anyone listening?

Just because you don't get it, or it's not what you expected, doesn't make it random. Sorry if that was over your head.

    Is anyone listening?

Expectation divided by Reality = Disappointment

what makes you think you have dumping at 2 days post op? What are you feeling? Im guessing it's not dumping syndrome.

    Day 2 Pre Op

you're so lucky to only have to get through 10 days. I am almost done with 2 weeks, and have one more to go. Hardest thing I've ever done! Good Luck!

    15 lbs to lose b 4 surgery

How much are you prepared to suffer? I have lost 10 lbs so far on my pre op diet. 4 shakes a day + a dry salad. It's been about 2 weeks. Good luck.
  21. unbesleevable1

    just wondering?

OMG why you post this 4 times????
  22. So you want to liquify fish? Im confused. Full liquids usually doesn't include meats or anything solid or pureed. Full liquid includes milk, sugar free pudding, sf custard, sf jello, vegetable juices, protein shakes, broth, strained soups, cream of wheat (very thin) etc.

    Getting Ready for Surgery

Don't buy too much beforehand. You may have a pre op diet, you may not. In the case of a pre op diet, you will want to get what your doctor recommends. Best to wait until you are closer to that point. As far as stuff for post op, everyone says your tastes may change, so don't buy too much. I have stocked up on Unjury brand protein chicken broth, and the Unjury unflavored protein powder. I also got a protein drink mix made by Herbalife that makes like a crystal lite drink, rather than a shake. The syntrax nectar is also a thinner consistency, and can be watered down a little if its too sweet. Find a crystal lite flavor that you like, if you don't like plain water. Stock up on sugar free jello mix and broth for immediate pre op and immediate post op when you will probably be on clears. Again, a lot of us have different things recommended by our surgeons, so always find out what your surgeon wants you do do and then do it.

    Cancer....

Sounds like a good question for her mother's oncologist. I have seen some posts on this forum by cancer survivors, so I'm sure it is a possibility! Good Luck!

    What shrinks your liver?

I don't think there's any reason not to take a tylenol pm. Do you need the tylenol in it? Do you need the benadryl in it? It is not an NSAID, and is not contraindicated per my surgeon.
