I dont want to stop nursing my baby :(

The only real risk is being able to take in enough calories. Nursing a newborn takes an extra 500 cal/ day. but that is a newborn. A 5 month old that is really only non-nutritive sucking is probably fine. you may have to play around with your calorie intake. But there is no danger really from the surgery. Like weighdownsouth said, there is no restriction on breastfeeding post op csections, even with general anesthesia. I would double check any additional meds they give you in the hospital, but we give most post op meds to nursing moms. (10+ years Labor & Delivery nursing background). Your other option, is to postpone surgery another few months.

    Why the sleeve?

My surgeon says their group takes way more bands out than they are putting in nowadays. I actually went to the new patient class leaning toward the band. Through researching, and meeting a few ppl who have had band to sleeve revisions, I decided on the sleeve. Also, the people I know that have the band and like it, don't seem like they lose that much weight.

  7. One of the little things I am looking forward to is being able to wear my rings again. I have my grandma's 50th wedding anniversary ring that I stopped being able to wear a few years ago. I have others, I love rings and right now I cant squeeze them onto my fat sausage fingers. So, what are YOU most looking forward to doing with your smaller body?

Even doctors have a story to tell

I personally believe too much of a calorie deficit can stall weight loss.

    Disappointed

You sound depressed. Talk to someone about it, like your PCP. Consider some counseling. Basically you have two choices: accept the current situation, or change it. (remember, accepting something doesn't mean you have to like it.) This process requires a good chunk of patience, both before and after. Good Luck!

    Headache

My surgeons are actually ok with NSAIDS post op, in moderation of course.

    Keeping surgery a secret...?

I wanted to keep it pretty DL if I could. (Im pre op- just submitted to ins last wk.) Anywayyyy, close friends, close family and that's about it. BUT, last nite at dinner with a bunch of friends, on of my friends (innocently) outed me. One of the ppl there I wasn't planning on telling, at least until way after. So my advice so far, "a secret between 3 people is easy to keep, if 2 of the people are dead." It isn't too realistic, but that's just been my experience so far. As far as work, that's much easier. you just tell them you're having surgery. they arent legally allowed to ask what kind, but if someone does, just say 'girl stuff'.

    Pre-Surgery Pain Relievers?

or you can call doc and ask for advice. you have almost 2 weeks till surgery. he or she may say ok to take nsaid, OR may prescribe something else (tylenol/codeine, tramadol, darvocet, etc) if they really don't want you taking nsaids. the concern is risk for bleeding during and after surgery. different from why you avoid them after surgery. (although my surgeon said nsaids occasionally is fine for sleeves.) important to ask your doc!

    Pre-Surgery Pain Relievers?

maybe a LITTLE bit of caffeine. you probably weaned too fast. another option is something topical like salon pas strips. i use them for headaches all the time. try also cold compress, ice pack or cold water on your head somehow. if cold doesnt help try hot shower/ water on your head. Hot always works for me or a combo of that and the salon pas.

    bad pain

Do you have an appendix? Could you possibly be pregnant? Do you have a fever? Nausea? Diarrhea? anything else but pain? Could be anything, abdominal pain is tricky. Related to the sleeve, could be a stricture, but that's usually associated with inablilty to tolerate any food or liquids. See how you do tonite, and if it's not better, get it checked out. Hope you feel better.

    Gonna be a LONG month

Find out why. Does the nutritionist have no other free appointments? Ask them if you can call every couple days to ask if there was a cancellation. Do they space the appointments out that way for a reason? I would ask if there is anything sooner.

    Quitting smoking

I just submitted for ins approval yesterday. I smoke, and I will quit when I get a surgery date. I am down to about 3-5/ day. i'm not sure about my surgeon's rules about nicotine replacements. Will be sure to ask. I am willing to quit--but not until I absolutely have to. Giving up carbonation will be tricky as well. I love my lo carb monster in the morning. maybe I will switch back to coffee, who knows. They do want us off all caffeine 2 wks before surgery. I've already started to wean that too. I'm willing to go to any lengths to do this! liquid diet?? bring it! so ready for this change!!!

    Not losing fast enough!

most ppl don't lose 30lbs in a year. I think you're doing pretty well. remember, healthy weight loss is 1-2lbs/ week. think of it over a year. 50-100 lbs in a year is damn good. chin up.
